The Liberal Democrat radio network, NPR, fired one of its most most successful news analysts for telling the truth. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/10/21/npr-fires-juan-williams-oreilly-appearance/ I think it's hard to avoid feeling something when you see people dressed that way on airplanes. We've just been inundated with the image of the "Muslim Terrorist" for the past decade, and I think anyone who says they don't have those thoughts is just not being honest. I don't believe for a minute that Juan Williams is a bigot, and I think he should be respected for telling the truth and being open and honest about it (which is something that NPR obviously has a problem with, you would know that if you ever listened to any of their programs). This is what the Liberal Democrats do to anyone who deviates even a fraction of a millimeter from their party line. Makes the Republicans look downright tolerant by comparison.
NO! NPR fired a Fox News contributor. LOL! And it is long overdue. I used to like Jaun until Fox started rubbing off on him. NPR treats both sides of the political divide with respect even when they don't merit it. I can't think of another news organization that goes so far out of it's way to be fair and balanced. It is some of the best reporting I have ever listened to and it isn't all political either. NPR is certainly not MSNBC and it isn't Fox. Although the Righties likes to play the game of false equivalencies when it comes to the media, nobody out there comes close to the journalistic integrity of NPR.
Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound? (This is not a rhetorical question) You just praised NPR for firing an employee because his views were inconsistent with their political goals while simultaneously recognizing them for their journalistic integrity. Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing NPR here, I am critizing you!
NPR is fair & balanced? Really? I admit to listening to NPR quite a bit when I'm driving but I only do it for one reason: To get the left's take on issues. This way I know the far lefts stance without having to be subjected to the goofiness on MSNBC, CNN, etc. I sure didn't know that anyone even remotely considered NPR to be anything other than a liberal news outlet. Me thinks dr moen is trying to use the same type of propaganda here that he uses on those naive coeds he bullies.
Perhaps you should read what I wrote again. I specifically said that NPR isn't political like Fox and MSNBC. So saying that they fired Williams because his views were inconsistent with their political goals makes absolutely no sense given what I wrote. I guess Juan had a previous warning... "NPR executives had previously complained about his remarks on Fox and asked him to stop using the NPR name when he appeared on O'Reilly's show."
I read what you wrote. If he was fired because he had a previous warning, what was the cause for the previous warning. Let me guess, his statements were inconsistent with the political goals of NPR. Just because you say that NPR isn't political like FOX and MSNBC doesn't make it so. All that proves is that you are incapable of recognizing your own personal bias. If the NPR was really fair and balanced, they should not care at all what Juan Williams says about how muslims on planes make him feel and celebrate his right to free speech. This whole thing sounds like the executives at NPR were not comfortable with Williams playing both sides of the fence by appearing on both NPR and FOX News.
You can only believe such nonsense if you buy into the Right wing’s false equivalence propaganda. If you are unclear exactly what I mean by this, research the terms yourself as it relates to the media. Here is an example directly related to the group in question. The Republicans are masters at false equivalence. Once you know the definition, you rarely fall for the fallacy. The fallacy of false equivalence What is false equivalence and why is it a fallacy? Let’s take an example. In 2004, when then Republican President George W. Bush ran for re-election against Democrat John Kerry, the issue of both candidates’ military service came up. John Kerry was a Vietnam veteran who was awarded three Purple Hearts; in contrast George W. Bush never served in Vietnam but in the Texan Air National Guard. In this post, the author points out that the AP constructed a fallacious line of reasoning of false equivalence: This otherwise good AP article on the growing AWOL story misses the mark when its author, Pete Yost, perpetuates the fallacy of false equivalence. With national security and the war on terrorism looming large on voters’ minds, supporters of Bush and Democratic nominee John Kerry are attacking each candidate’s Vietnam War records. Republicans have accused Kerry, a decorated Vietnam combat veteran, of fabricating the events which led to his five medals. Democrats point to gaps in Bush’s stateside Air National Guard service in 1972 and 1973 to say Bush shirked his duty. This is a false equivalence because all the documentary evidence released so far with respect to Kerry’s record backs up his claims and, in many cases, directly refutes the claims of his attackers. However, in the case of Bush, it is the documentary evidence that repeatedly punches holes in Bush’s claims about his own service and thus shows the attacks to be justified. Kerry: the records back him up. Bush: the records shoot him down. Not the same thing. In other words, a false equivalence fallacy occurs when someone falsely equates an act by one party as being equally egregious to that of another without taking into account the underlying differences which may make the comparison patently invalid.
Your speculation here is utter nonsense. "Let me guess", "that proves", "it sounds like"...Do you have anything other than YOUR biased opinions to offer?
It is called an assumption. You should know, you did the same thing when you said And it is evident to everyone reading this thread that you are the one showing bias here. If you would like to prove otherwise, please give us a reason that NPR would fire Williams for his comments that is not politically motivated.
I don;t feel too sorry for him...he netted a pay raise out of it. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/39786375/ns/today-entertainment/?GT1=43001
Next on O'Reilly Factor, Juan Williams discusses how seeing a bunch of white guys in suit coats and ties all day makes him worried and nervous.
LOL, Get real. You are trying very hard to play both sides........I know it is your job, but c'mon, research before you make silly statements like that.
I wonder why BO hasn't spoken up on this one yet? Muslims, a black guy....seems like just the sort of controversy he likes to inject himself in to.
The official Liberal statement on the topic. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130746229&ps=cprs And, for the record, I don't think NPR funding should be cut because of this issue, I think they never should have had government funding in the first place.
