Gosh you're so clever. You post something totally assinine because others won't answer your first statement full of blanket statements. Then you call us Marxists. Get real dude or at least try it for a minute. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they're a Marxist or Socialist or Nazi. It takes a tiny mind to keep resorting to such tactics. Shall we start to call you Tiny now? Here's my response. I happen to pretty much agree with the entire first paragraph. Does that make me a conservative? No it makes me a sentient being. I do have a problem with who's morality is to be followed and how well those that preach actually follow it. We're talking politicians here and seems a darn lot of them have skeletons in the closet be they Republican, Democrat whatever. In essence your first paragraph does have some thought to it and you wouldn't come to these conclusions without some feeling behind it. Your second paragraph however contains very little thought and a lot of your personal feeling. It's a blanket statement on how YOU feel about whatever you consider Liberal. Liberal equals bad and ultimately this leads you to Marxism. In short you clamped your mind shut a long time ago. Think back jth. When you first joined this forum and started in on me as bad Liberal I asked you to look back at other posts I have made. You know like I've voted Republican, Democrat and Independent. You'd also see posts where I stated a strong Republican party was a good thing. Not because I agree with what I hear but because if a country becomes a ONE party system we're really in trouble. I've also frequently stated I'd love to see MULTIPLE parties involved in races. Any person that wants to lay blame on totally the Republicans or totally the Democrats is just a plain fool in my book. There is your answer jth. Your other post still does make the list of THE MOST ASSININE comments EVER on PRWE. It wasn't really that clever but it showed me a lot about your character (or lack thereof). Honestly, this is why I don't respond to you (or others) frequently. It's a waste of typing. I thought this post was a pretty good response to you as well. Not even a Liberal but probably Marxist to you.
Hey nice follow-up here. This has to be tied with the most asinine statement ever post in this forum. Exactly how do "Democrats" fund abortion? This I gotta hear.
Do you think I"m not aware that accidents happen? The problem is people like you want to blow the accident side out of proportion because it fits YOUR mold of thinking. While there's 10s of thousands of murders across the country every year, there might literally be a couple hundred accidents. If that. But you focus on the minority to make yourself think you're making the right decision because you're afraid to handle a situation yourself. That's fine. It leaves you vulnerable but that's what you want. You've also added your spin on the matter by throwing in a bunch of garbage stories that do not affect me. People are responsible for themselves. If some woman is too irresponsible to even attempt to identify her target in the dark before firing, that's her problem. Frankly, I don't even care. The two guys in the story I posted, could have broken into my house, your house, just as easily as the one they chose. That indeed could affect me so that matters to me. Posting accidents for opposing arguments of gun ownership DOES NOT eliminate the reality that people who are less than animals are willing to break into your house and kill you without giving it a second thought!! You use your opposing views to cancel that crime out as if it wasn't even reality. Like these things can only happen to other people. I'm sure you have no plan and no way of dealing with ANY crisis that comes your way besides your ability to pick up the phone and dial 911. Despite how easy it is to be prepared. You don't have to dwell on it. To me, you're an irresponsible human being. I don't care what your thought process is. In many situations, it can't do you any good. You have no physical plan which is foolish and ineffective for survival. Hopefully you are willing to accept that fact.
As usual, the conservatives would rather play semantic games than address the issues. You think that you can somehow use your own biased language to try and define the issue when all you really demonstrate is your own self-righteousness. You whine that the article I posted is biased and turn around and use biased language without the slightest consciousness of your own hypocrisy. The saddest part is you probably pat yourself on the back and think that you’re clever. Debating an issue with you is like arguing with a chimp. You just know at some point your going to get crap thrown at you.
I know the gun crowd never believes any statisics that don't agree with their preconceived ideas of the perfect world where everyone has a gun and it's the wild west all over again, BUT.... Yearly Statistics As each year passes on, a minimum of around 35,000 people die from gun injuries in the Untited States. But those are just the deaths, a little over three times as many people are injured and hospitalized from guns. When you narrow this down to a specific group, of the 35,000 deaths, 85% of those deaths were white males between the age groups of 10 to 34 years old. The most common age in that age group was 19 years old. For the estimated (3 times as much as 35,000deaths) 105,000 gun injuries in a year, 56% of those injuries occur in a home and are reported to be accidental injuries. But of those 105,000 injuries and 56% that occur in homes, 34% of those injuries are with victims 17 years old and younger.
Sooooooo, dr moen...you are for or against our RIGHT to bear arms? The reason I ask is that in several previous posts you claim to support the 2nd amendment but here you seem to be making the case against the 2nd amendment. Just asking for clarification on this issue.
You ignored most of what I wrote, but that's ok. I expected it actually. On your statistics, I'm calling B.S. Would like to know what bias, liberal website you obtained these figures from. Regardless, they are meaningless to me. You could lock 100 people in a room with a knife and somebody out of the group is bound to get injured by it. I have no control over what ignorant people (including kids) do in their homes. Neither do you. You do have the right and responsibility to be able to at least defend your own home. That you can control. But you choose to sight accidents out of your control AS AN EXCUSE to get out of your responsibility. I had guns in my room as a kid. So did my friends. And somehow we miraculously made it to adulthood. Wow. I am so lucky I made it.
And once again, they cling to religion and guns. "Regardless, they are meaningless to me" Why am I unsurprised by this type of thinking? Oh yeah, because the article I posted predicted it. You simply can't change your mind or consider anything that goes against your preconceptions. Again, you are exactly what a conservative is characterized as so at least I have insight into you that you'll never have into me.
I would say it was more a argument for compulsory lesson on how to handle fierarms safely rather than a argument to ban them from private ownership I have said this before but before you can drive you have to pass a test that shows you are compitent to drive (Anywere in the USA) however what tests do you have to pass to own a fierarm?? that is besides proving you have no criminal record which in itself is meaningless as most criminals can get a fierarm with out the hassle LOL
Just an interesting note...car accidents account for 30000 to 40,000 deaths and 2 to 3 million injuries every year.
Also interesting is.... A false equivalence fallacy occurs when someone falsely equates an act by one party as being equally egregious to that of another without taking into account the underlying differences which may make the comparison patently invalid. Just sayin'
Just putting the numbers in perspective. Lots of ways for people to die and get hurt in this world. Some are worth the risks, some aren't. But, I am not arguing gun control here again. It is like religion and abortion. Too much trench warfare and not enough thought to the discussions to be worth the effort. Just sayin.
Look who's talking! Talk about a closed mind!! You've paid no attention to the main purpose of the discussion whatsoever. All you have proven is that you choose to alter your decisions based on a collective group of incompetent individuals and/or unfortunate accidents. What in your opinion should I do? Am I supposed to take your unrealistic list from unknown, bias sources and change my lifestyle, thereby risking me and my family's safety? The more I think about this, the more I realize that I am the one who has thought this out, FAR more than you have!! That's the funny part. So the stereo type says I can't change my mind and consider something that goes against my preconceptions?? Do you think maybe that could be because my preconceptions are RIGHT!!?? And there is no debate? The key here is, you have not provided any alternative that would yield satisfactory results vs. something we do not have control of. So why should I consider your pre-conceived notions? How would that possibly benefit me? I don't see any point in wasting time on liberal arguments that are wrong! Sorry! I want criminals to be incapacitated. They won't do this on their own. Either you or the police are required to do this if the situation arises. The police are not available at a moments notice so that leaves the individual responsible for their own safety. If you want to sit in a corner and dwell on accidents while this is going on, you get killed. Thus, your viewpoint on the subject is worthless should a serious situation arise. This is assuming you understand that something physical has to happen to alter a situation to your benefit. You see? I can walk you through the thought process if necessary. Or, make a snap decision about it since I realize all of this already. I don't have to talk it out except to explain it to misguided individuals like you. And yes, your feelings on skewed statistics are meaningless to me. If you want to dwell on gun accidents, save it for another discussion. To use it as an excuse to disregard your own responsibility for personal safety is juvenile. Or, (as is often the case with your type) it is throwing useless opposing arguments out there, simply for the sake of argument and opposing.
Hahahaha! You were just dying to put this out there weren't you? Well, your fancy statement would have had more impact if you would have waited for a discussion where it actually applied. But thanks anyway. You did appear intellectual for a fleeting moment. Oh well, you probably still have some fooled.
Calling a spade a spade. Let me give it a try. The republican party is representative of the wealthy and the very wealthy above all else, and their primary interests, are for themselves and those of similar wealth and morality. Black and white, cut and dry. Yeah.....that works I guess. Thanks!
Guns in your room as a kid? Well.... What kind of booze did they allow you to keep in your sock drawer? How many deer heads were there throughout the house? What age did you first get an a boner after blasting a critter? Which tastes better, roasted squirrel or possum stew? What kind of pickup truck holds the most guns and ammo? Lastly, does wearing army fatigues while blasting Bambi and beating your chest after a fresh kill, make you feel more like a man than say, jeans and a t-shirt does?
You said a mouthful as far as discussion goes here. May as well argue about which mosquito bit someone that ended up with West Nile virus. Who's fault was it? For the record my uncle was infected with encephilitis many years ago presumably from a mosquito bite. He lost hearing in one ear. No politicians were blamed.
Wow! Look another unfortunate accident. http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20101117/US.Twins.Shot/
