Anti-war Mom Gives it Up! Sheehan wrote in her diary: On Memorial Day, she came to some "heartbreaking conclusions," she wrote. When she had first taken on this task, Sheehan was a darling of the liberal left. "However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the 'liberal/left' started labeling me with the same slurs that the conservative/right used," she wrote. "I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of 'right or left', but 'right and wrong,'" the diary says. Sheehan criticized "blind party loyalty" as a danger, no matter which side it involved, and said the current two-party system is "corrupt" and "rapidly descending into with nary a check or balance: a fascist corporate wasteland." Sheehan said she had sacrificed a 29-year marriage and endured threats to put all her energy into stopping the war. What she found, she wrote, was a movement "that often puts personal egos above peace and human life." Note: It sure took her long enough to find out, didn't it?:hatch: __________________________ mother of the bride dresses discount wedding dresses mother of the groom dresses
I sympathize with Ms. Sheehan having lost her son in the war. I didn't agree with her rabid attacks on President Bush, but I saw her as a grieving mother who could be forgiven for her emotional state. I'm glad to see that she's no longer blinded by the rhetoric of the liberal left.
Sheehan kept up her demonstrations when BO sent troops to Afganistan, but the mainstrem media decided not to cover it......At least she had a non moving standard.
The left wing media used her in their battle with Bush. Once Bush was gone, they discarded her (because they couldn't have her criticizing BO).
She used the media and the politicians used her. If you put yourself out there, you risk having your a$$ handed back to you at some point. She probably believed that she had the moral high ground to speak out and avoid the ugliness of politics and the court of public opinion but she was most likely naive in this belief. She tried to fill the loss of her son with a crusade that only caused her to lose everything else. Grieving people will often distract themselves with something that keeps them from dealing with the pain of the loss of a loved one. I know that we can't resist pointing fingers and assigning blame but it is really our entire culture that creates situations like these and we all play a part in it whether we admit it or not. I hope she is able to find peace some day.
Moen, that was excellent !!!! You sir, have hit the nail on the head, well done !!!! You're correct, she in herself is a tragedy.
