I used to work overseas for an American company who "exploited" their "penny labor". Funny thing was, some of their exploited penny labor came from over 500 mile just so they could have the privilege of work for the company you accuse of exploiting them. I really do not think they felt exploited.
But that IS success to the right. So long as profit is realized at the end of it all, that's all that really matters. Morality, abuses, slave labor...it matters not. Only profit matters.
So if I go get a homeless person, and get him to do my housework, yard work, or stir my drinks for me, and I give him fifteen cents a week, that'd be cool with you I'm sure. After all, fifteen cents is better than nothing! I'm helping him help himself and he wouldn't have had that fifteen cents if it weren't for my "entrepreneurship" You right wing hacks are sickening and vile.
If that's the agreed upon wage, more power to the 2 parties who agreed to it. The gov't should not make itself the nanny to everybody in the country.
Well, that IS the Walmart, corporate, republican mentality. Yeah, and if you can find them for 15 cents...why not...right? I rest my case.
I do not think that they really are needed. My fiancee was fired and the union ''tried'' to get his job back for him but was unsuccessful even though he was harrassed.
When I was a union shop steward the only purpose of the union was to preserve the jobs of lazy good-for-nothing co-workers...people not showing up for work, those caught stealing and those who were drinking/drugging on the job. That is also were the "secret" about union dues was disclosed- they had to have the dues auto deducted from paychecks otherwise most wouldn't pay or they might expect an accounting of what the dues are doing for them. I was never asked to monitor work conditions, never consulted about fair wages, etc. Here's another thing, I interned at the same company while in college (and still employed there) and was included in contract negotiations between the comapny & the Teamsters union. Want to talk about a cozy relationship? You couldn't tell who was labor & who was management in the room. Labor just wanted the workers on the job & the union wanted their dues to continue. If we had gone on strike the union would have had to pay us out of their strike fund & they sure didn't want their cofers reduced. Everything in labor/mgmt negotiations is purely for show.
That is all unions are good for. But my fiancee was a hard worker who paid his dues and should have had the union to back him up. But they did not and he lost the fight because of it.
Well....there's always Walmart. They're non union, and I heard they pay exceedingly well. They're every corporate master's wet dream.
Tom, I don't hear you offering to take Angie and her fiance' into your home and sharing your food with them. You basically just told her fiance' to go get a job. Where are your socialistic sensibilities, Comrade?
Hey, she needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Republicans are taking over and we need to be thankful for Walmart, sweat shops, and CEO bonuses. By the way, how's your portfolio my good man? Did you lease your 2012 Mercedes yet? How are your "penny" labor stocks? All doing well I'm sure. Keep the bubbly flowing my good man, and don't forget to curse the common man and the socialist pinkos before you let the maid go home for the night, and set your high dollar security system (to keep out the riff raff).
tom, you know the majority of CEO's of US corporations consider themselves liberals, right? Something like 60%? The rate is even higher in banking, finance & insurance. Now what were you saying about "when Republicans take over"?
