All I am saying is that you are speaking from a position of ignorance but you seem OK with that. Hey, that's another regional attribute you have.

    Moen Maher;
    You are one angry person.
If we keep our money at home many things become possible . Follow the dots , did the kids beat on you in school or was it your parents ?

You are trying to tell me I am ignorant of what I paid? Interesting. Or, are you saying I am ignorant of the "southern" education system I have lived amongst for 40 years and you are so prejudice against? Even more interesting. I think it has already been well demonstrated exactly who is ignorant of the facts.

Moen, I don't appreciate being called a liar. When it comes to my personal situation, you really don't know what you're talking about. It doesn't matter how you try to spin it, I speak the truth. Regardless, you believe in a socialistic style of health care program and I believe otherwise. You're not going to change my opinion and I'm not going to change yours. I suggest we just leave it at that.

You had/have 69K for medical bills. People like you don't need health insurance anyway. How many deer did your "daddy" force you to blast when you were 7 anyway, Uncle Jed?

Better to have an afternoon toddy, right after the three martini lunch (and write it off as a "business" expense).

Who really changes anybody else's mind here? I've yet to see anyone's mind change either way and I've been here for years. That isn't what this is about. In my opinion, forums like this one are more about reassuring myself that the other side doesn't have a leg to stand on. I would have thought that you would have figured that out by now. Even the fact that you haven't, reassures me.

Let's be honest here, I've called you far worse things than a liar and Lord knows you've call me far worse things than a liar yourself. I look at your statements and I can tell a lot about you. You apparently feel the same way about me. You tell me in one sentence that when it comes to your personal situation, I really don't know what I'm talking about. Then you follow that up by telling me what my beliefs are. On the one hand, you think that I can't know anything about you but on the other hand you can tell me what I believe. One would have to conclude from your two statements that you can know me, even my beliefs, but I can't know you for some strange reason. Not to be flippant but what is the power you hold over us mere mortals anyway?

As far as speaking the truth, well the truth is a funny mistress as they say. I like the way Matt Sherman addresses truth-tellers such as you.

    Beware the truth-tellers
    by Matt Sherman

I find it is so funny and ironic when a person has to tell you they are telling the truth before they tell you the true thing that is truthful.

I assume that when any person writes something, they believe themselves to be telling the truth, or offering an honest opinion.

Projection is a sly mistress. To claim truth prior to argument is to accuse your audience of bias or closed-mindedness. Which reveals something about the writer.

It’s like someone starting a conversation with “Hi, I am not lying!”. I didn’t think you were. But now you’ve planted a seed.

A person that calls themselves a truth-teller is not only an egotist, but someone who struggles with the difference between opinion and fact. A person who has trouble imagining that their opinion is not capital-T Truth. Which to me connotes a defensive mind.

It is also a most irritating form of “going meta”. Calling oneself a truth-teller is to make an argument about an argument, before making the argument.

In other words: if you’re smart, I will probably be interested in what you have to say. Show me the product, and spare me the spin.

I try to be a totally dispassionate truth teller.

I think the concept of an open forum is for all sides to present their opinions. In a free exchange of ideas, different points of view can be interpreted and melded with your own. Based upon that, opinions can certainly change. Ideologues such as yourself tend to box themselves into a strict way of thinking with accepting other ideas. I've listened to your views on many topics, but you've failed to convince me to change my opinion on anything. I've come to view your vision as too one-sided, too partisan, too linear and too strict. Perhaps if you'd present your case without being so overtly authoritarian, you might be able to present a logical explanation which might convince some people to see your point of view.

You've called me many things (i.e., Liar, Idiot, Stupid), but I challenge you to point out where I've called you anything worse than a hypocrite. But, let's not get into a name-calling game. I'd rather both of us present our ideas in a civil manner.

Not really. You might actually be a nice guy should we ever meet. It's extremely difficult to really know a person through the internet. All I can say about you is that I don't agree with your political leanings. That's about it.

It's true that you don't know anything about my personal situation, my life or my experience. I think you know my beliefs regarding politics because I've made it a point to make my beliefs known. So have you.

Well, I AM a Republican, you know... So, that gives me a head start... :)

LOL! Actually, I am far less abrasive in person, well maybe somewhat. But I'm a Democrat so you could have figured that out already. LOL!

Like I said, I am not trying to change your mind about anything. I am not trying to change anyone's mind. I meet a few nice people like Jack, and Stu, and Steve but mostly the people here are abrasive themselves so I don't hesitate to respond in kind. I find the nicer people treat me, the nicer I treat them and vise versa.

If I have already failed to convince you of my position on the topic of this thread, then my work is done. :)

I am much more abrasive in person. ;)

I would say, though, that posting here has probably changed me in one way...the extremism I have seen here over the years has driven me even more towards the center of the political spectrum. But, that probably would have happened regardless since this place is really just a distilled version of what has been going on in the wider political spectum for more than a decade.
