White House names first male social secretary

WASHINGTON – The Obama White House broke decades of tradition Friday, naming the first man to ever serve as social secretary.
Jeremy Bernard, a senior adviser to the U.S. ambassador to France, will soon trade Paris for Washington and take on the high-profile assignment, the White House announced Friday. That means he'll be responsible for planning numerous social functions and events and pulling them off without a hitch, including opulent state dinners, the annual Easter Egg Roll and dozens upon dozens of receptions.
President Barack Obama said Bernard shares his and first lady Michelle Obama's vision of the White House as a place that "celebrates our history and culture in dynamic and inclusive ways."
Bernard, who is gay, said he was deeply humbled to be joining the White House staff.

Did anyone notice the "mention" that I'm referring to? Does anyone really think it was necessary to mention that the new social secretary was gay? After all, I don't recall any other appointees being mentioned as "straight". Now, before you attack me, I'm not blaming the administration for this; I'm blaming the author of the article and/or the editor.

It seems that in this politically correct society in which we currently live, a person's sexual orientation wouldn't even be a topic of reference.

Coming at a time when BO is attacking traditional marriage too?
I think he's trying to appeal to & firm up a particular segment while distracting the rest of us from the real news...no jobs, higher gas prices, unrest around the world and so on. By diverting our attention he hopes we don't notice how ineffective he his.

Except when it comes to marriage, serving in the military, being able to teach students, etc...of course. Then it always seems to be a topic of reference.
