Earlier someone mentioned 16 hours. I'd consider a year and a half (misread meant 8 months) of intel on him living there, and no action taken, to be at best suspicious ...if not criminal negligence.
How can you argue Peter? I just clicked on the link. Here's the headline stories. ESPN.com Poll Reveals United States Of America More Level-Headed Than Previously Thought Today Show To Men: Stop Grabbing Boobs At Sporting Events “Professional Football, Baseball, And Basketball, The Iron Curtain Of Homophobia In The United States.” Why Sex Before A Tennis Match Might Just Be Necessary All I can say is I might take up Tennis!
I think this event actually is an indication of how incompetent BO happens to be. The information keeps changing because BO doesn't know how to handle the story, he's trying to make himself appear strong by writing his own version but the more those involved talk about it, the more it punches holes in BO's version of events. And anyone who believes BO did something responsible or noble by waiting 16 hrs to decide whether or not to take action against bin laden is simply an imbecile. It wasn't 16 hrs to decide what to do or how to do it, it took him 16 hrs to decide whether to do anything at all.
Now I see where the 8 months is coming from. It was suspected that (the compound under surveillance) may be where Bin Laden was living and it took time to verify, without being detected (by Bin Laden's crew or the Pakistani Military/Police). I'm not aware if the 16 hours to make a decision at all is true or not, mostly due to the chaos surrounding the announcement itself. I will agree the administration is fumbling the info somewhat but under the circumstances (the pressure and excitement to release ANY info has to be insanely high) I'd say it's understandable.
Osama Bin Laden dead: Obama took 16 hours to make up his mind | Mail Online Now what? The Seals were ready (contrary to what craig says), the military leaders were ready...just had to wait for BO to decide whether ot not he wanted to take bin laden out or not.
Interesting... I'd like to know what the hell he meant by "I'm going to go back and think about it some more." I can speculate... (praying, consulting advisers, readying the spin machine, dropping a deuce, etc.) ...but I would have said "Do it!" immediately myself. I would think any "thoughts" would have been done years ago (on whether or not to deploy immediately on hearing positive ID and location). I'm interested in what he'll say on this issue, it better be good! (laughs) I don't know how political the Daily Mail Reporter is, but I don't think it's even relevant anyway, since the 16 hour "decision" doesn't appear to be contested.
Let me ask you something David, you ever kill anyone, or order there death? do you have any concept of what that must entail? What would you rather have a President who considers things (and then does the right thing) or one who is gung ho! I know which leader I would prefer
Looking forward or backward? Just kidding... I'm curious as to why he'd take 16 hours to give the order ...I hope to eventually find out what was on his mind. Me? Yeah, I would have previously decided to immediately give the order under those circumstances, which leads me to believe there was something else I'm not privy to or haven't considered. Time might tell. (laughs)
Isn't it sort of irrelvant how long someone took to make a call like this one as long as in the end it was the right call? Someone please tell me the amount of time that is acceptable. Is two hours long enough? Is 8 hours long enough? What is the exact amount of time that you armchair worriors deem OK? And how did you come up with your time table anyway? I think I'm about to hear crickets.
You think it appropriate that while BO dithered, bin laden could have escaped? Wonder how many times we've missed him before because someone wasn't capable of making a tough decision? How long has bin laden been public enemy #1? You don't think at some point it was decided what his fate would be if pinpointed?
Less than a day to make a decision on whether to risk dozens of American military lives, on a dicey mission, to invade a sovereign nuclear power, who has a military that is both capable and also hostile based previous intrusions on its borders, in order to kill one man who is not an imminent threat and is going to be there for a while? As someone who comes from a family of 4 generations of military members, I think I am ok with that.
I am not so John Wayne about that stuff any more. I've seen too much. Do it when you have to but make sure you have to and make sure you can. Less than a day to decide just doesn't seem like a long time in this situation.
Unfortunatly some folks are just too damn quick to send others into harms way Stu, then they complain when the body bags start arriving back at home
Stop & think for a moment, please. We have been after bin laden for 10 years now. Isn't it conceivable that we have given serious thought to what we would do if he were located? Hadn't BO promised to track bin laden down & kill him? You can defend this moron all you want but how many leaders would really need to take any time at all in deciding how to deal with bin laden?
Just what were his alternatives. The only one I have heard was to drop a jdam - 100 yards from the Pakistan military base in a residential district. Great alternative, right?
Well David unfortunatly when it comes to President Obama you are incabable of thought all that comes from you is a strong smell of hatred Just read your own words David Hadn't BO promised to track bin laden down & kill him? Now what part of that equation did he fail to carry out? please be so kind as to tell me exactly which part So he took some time to consider all the possible courses of action, so what! What is 16 hours after a wait of 10 Years (thats some 87 658.1277 hours) but all you can do is complain! Oh and I would still like a link to your comments that The President threatend to stop paying the troops please
If we had planned for 10 years, why the need to dither for 16 hours? I guess if your point is valid it makes BO look even wimpier than I thought. After that much time one should be able to expect a leader to be more decisive.
