The fastest decline in American political history has to go to the Republicans who soundly defeated Democrats in the midterms of November 2010 and can't buy an election in the reddest of districts in May of 2011. Maybe they will finally stop telling us what the American people want. Thank you Paul Ryan, Scott Walker, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, and all the rest for being so overtly against the middle class and so completely in the pockets of big business that even people who are not political can finally see the truth through all the Right's lies.

Democrat Hochul Wins In Bellwether New York 26th Congressional Race
    May 24, 2011

With about 2/3 of the vote counted, Democratic challenger Kathy Hochul has been declared the winner in the closely watched special election in New York's 26th Congressional District. Various news media called the race at 10 p.m. EDT as Hochul was leading the pack with 48% of the vote, Republcan Jane Corwin was running at 42% and third party candidate Jack Davis was taking 8% of the vote.

The election in the strongly Republican district is being held to replace former Rep. Chris Lee after he resigned over pictures of him shirtless on Craigslist.

I thought I might mock moron with his comments when Scott Brown won in Mass. However, I discovered that he never bothered to make such a comment so.................

I think I stated why I care pretty clearly in the OP. Let me sum it up for you. Republicans on the decline at a record pace. Less Republicans holding office translates to a better county for 98% of us. The less greed, selfishness, and money worshipping we have in our politics the better the country is for the vast majority of us. Republicans have overreached and are being b**** slapped back in their place. Thanks for waking up the sleeping giant. Your typical "Why should anyone care about a local issue" response neglects the open secret that this race was seen as a national referendum on Paul Ryan's Kill Medicare budget. But you knew that. BTW it was soundly rejected.

New York 26th or Chicago... what's the difference? Allow me to remind you what you said concerning Chicago:

So, I'll ask you again, "Why do you care what happens in NY"? I don't know why anyone outside of New York's 26th Congressional District would care about the issue. It really doesn't concern you or me for that matter. How is whoever gets elected next really going to affect you? My guess is not at all but you'd never guess that from all the carping.

See post #6. This has been a reliable Republican district in NY since 1850....Yes 1850!!! If you can't understand the significance of that, you're even more dim-witted than I gave you credit for.

I agree it's quite an accomplishment for the Democrat to win the district, but I'll ask again, "Why do you care what happens in NY"?

My interest is exactly what I said. The less corporate controlled Republicans in congress we have the better the country will be. Here is one more district that will vote with Democrats on important social issues. That is pretty easy to understand.

Broader implications include the fact that this is the first test of the American electorate since the Republican overreach. It signals that Americans do not like the Right's agenda one iota. Even Republicans don’t like it.

Granted this is a little less tangible than an increase in the Democrats numbers but aren't we always looking for signs of which way the political winds are blowing? It is just hard for you to accept this as a bellwether because of your hyper-hysterical partisanship but it certainly looks like a clear sign of things to come.

It is not signalling one thing about America. It is the flap of one butterfly and you are trying to make a hurricane out of it. I cannot blame you for hoping to see signs, but a bellwether? Dream on.

BTW, I am still waiting for those conservative newsmen!

Did he say something? LOL! A reliably Republican district since 1850 goes Democrat but he sees no relevance. Geeeesh!
