His new position is Director of Progressive Media & Online Response. i.e. how to clean up the commentary about BO or how to shut up the right.

BTW, his wife is Nita Chaudhary of moveon.org and author of the "General Betray-Us" ads. Anyone care to guess the leanings of this family?

Here's the story from the Huffington Post:

WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration has created and staffed a new position tucked inside their communications shop for helping coordinate rapid response to unfavorable stories and fostering and improving relations with the progressive online community. "This week, Jesse Lee will move from the new media department into a role in the communications department as Director of Progressive Media & Online Response," read an internal memo from Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer, provided to The Huffington Post. "For the last two years, Jesse has often worn two hats working in new media and serving as the White House's liaison with the progressive media and online community. Starting this week, Jesse will take on the second role full time working on outreach, strategy and response."

The post is a new one for this White House. Rapid response has been the purview of the Democratic National Committee (and will continue to be). Lee's hire, however, suggests that a portion of it will now be handled from within the administration. It also signals that the White House will be adopting a more aggressive engagement in the online world in the months ahead. Lee has played that role in the past, including writing a semi-infamous White House blog post that said Fox News' Glenn Beck was lying about the administration on his show. His new gig comes with its own Twitter account, precisely for the purposes of disseminating push back. An equally telling requirement of Lee's new job, however, is that of crafting strategy for outreach to the progressive community. Lee has been tasked with that responsibility in his previous incarnations, both as a member of the DNC online team during the '08 election and as a senior new media adviser with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

His new post may require even more delicate hand-holding. Instead of managing the administration's web presence, he will be pressing to make the administration more popular on the web. In that respect, his Twitter account could also become an interesting window into the status of the always emotional, occasional testy dance between progressives and the president. Lee enjoys good relationships with much of the online community, but as a member of the administration for the past two years he has also had his moments of friction.

I'm not certain why this is any kind if "issue". You're being kind of vague as to why this matters any more than any other political appointment. Is there an actual point here? Love to hear it stated bluntly. If I'm reading the innuendo in the OP correctly, the Obama Administration hired someone that might have a politically Left leaning family? If that is it, well, I for one am shocked.

I had never read Lee's "semi-infamous White House blog" before... thanks for posting!

Glenn Beck needs better meds lol ...every now and then I watch a few minutes of his show on Fox... just to hear his psychotic ramblings lol ...he used to be on CNN, his meds were better back then... but he still could've used an extra dose before his show;)

I'm just glad we've finally got Okie to read the Huffington Post. He'll figure out that there are two sides to every issue and the light bulb will go on for him. He's not dumb, just misinformed. LOL!!

Sounds like an irresponsible waste of taxpayer money to me. Perhaps inspired by the old Soviet-bloc propaganda ministers?
If BO is so concerned about what is written about him maybe he should pay this guys wages out of his own pocket?

Even better, just let the Right wing nutcases from Fox to Breitbart say whatever they want unchallenged. Let these people lie day in and day out without any comment whatsoever. Let them misrepresent the truth without consequences of any kind. Is that what you think Obama should do? It certain has worked for you in the past. I guess I can see why you would hate to see this valued tactic challenged but your dominance over low-information voters is coming to an end. I bet that really hurts.

I still don't see a credible reason that this new hire should even be talked about here or anywhere else. I'm still waiting for that little nugget of information.

One would have to be a complete & utter moron to defend BO's hiring of this guy.
I guess BO's attempt to have people turn in their neighbors for sending anti-BO emails didn't work...the libs attempt to censor media via the Fairness Doctrine couldn't gain any support so now BO has to resort to spending taxpayer money to monitor citizens who hurt his feelings? What's Lee going to do the people he identifies as anti-BO? Send them to a "camp" somewhere for "re-training"?

While it has a distasteful ring to it, it doesn't sound much different than the WH Press Secretary position except for the medium involved.

Thanks, Moen... Misinformed? Probably. I read Huffington and watch MSNBC, too so if I'm receiving any misinformation, it's from those two outlets.

As long as you're not threatening him, you can say just about anything you want against the president. Hey, FBI if you're listening: Obama is a warmonger.

(IQless1 stands up) Here! (laughs) I don't see the argument. Why is it wrong for Obama to have his staff defend his policies from attacks on the internet?

The only info I could find on this was from conservative extremist's websites.

The first few stories on the first site: (hardly neutral lol)

Obama shows great potential — as a Marxist dictator!

INTERPOL is granted immunity from U.S. law.

    Obama is weakening America's defenses

Obama is weakening our allies' defenses

    Evidently Obama hates America

Obama bows down to King Abdullah

    Obama bows to Emperor Akihito

Obama fraternizes quite cordially with dictators in other countries

The second site I found: The "Conservative Chronicles": Get ready! Obama’s Brown-Shirts are out!
Again, not a neutral site lol

The third site yielded some real information (and not just spittle): Obama's Call to "Spy On Your Neighbor" Was Nothing New For Big Brother POTUS

    Quotes from the third site:

"The Obama administration has announced a program asking everyone to spy on their neighbors. The call for an army of spies was announced in a White House’s internet site blog:

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it toflag@whitehouse.gov."

Hardly "spying on your neighbors." IMO, reporting false information isn't evil.

All attempts at finding information on "libs attempting to censor media via the Fairness Doctrine" led me to conservative blogs. As I stated elsewhere, when I read something on the internet I try to determine if it's biased (partisan) first, then look for other sources. This led me to a search for the "Fairness Doctrine" and Wikipedia, which I find to be far more neutral.

Fairness Doctrine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Quotes from Wikipedia:

"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced."

I can see why conservatives would hate to do that, having to be fair and balanced lol

"FCC Chairman Mark S. Fowler, a communications attorney who had served on Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign staff in 1976 and 1980, was appointed by Reagan to head the FCC. The commission began to repeal parts of the Fairness Doctrine, announcing in 1985 that the doctrine hurt the public interest and violated free speech rights guaranteed by the First Amendment."

"In 1987, the FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine, prompting some to urge its reintroduction through either Commission policy or Congressional legislation."

Conservatives came into power in the FCC and abolished it, siting "free speech" issues. I don't see it that way. No one was prevented from saying what they wanted to, the rule meant that once you did, a rebuttal was necessary for a balanced view-point. How is that limiting free speech?

"the main agenda for this doctrine was to ensure that the viewers were exposed to a diversity of viewpoints."

"The Fairness Doctrine has been strongly opposed by prominent conservatives and libertarians who view it as an attack on First Amendment rights and property rights. Editorials in The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Times have said that Democratic attempts to bring back the Fairness Doctrine have been made largely in response to conservative talk radio."

I'd agree, conservative talk radio doesn't want this, they are intent on giving their listeners a one-sided view-point. They know they simply cannot win a debate, so they rile up their listeners with misinformation.

    I write too much... lol

So you're claiming BO is trying to form his own version of the FBI or Secret Service? Interesting.
