Dr moen,phd....in light of all this, do you still like Weiner?

Of course he does. Didn't you hear. He did nothing illegal and he is definitely left. That is a perfect fit for Mr. phd.

I don't like Anthony Weiner's politics and I tune him out whenever he opens his loud mouth. However, did he do anything criminal? I don't know the whole story, but I think the recipients of his photos were all adults and, if I'm not mistaken, they were willing participants. The guy is only human after all and, while some may consider what he did sort of sleazy, I don't see any reason for him to resign over this. It really has nothing to do with his job so I'm going to have to cut the guy some slack on this one based on what I've heard of the story so far.

Well, I'm having flashbacks of Clinton here. The worst of it wasn't about the indiscretion, but about the lying.

I think, as punishment, for the rest of his term, he should be referred to in all media stories and official reports as: Ant Weiner.

Were it just his sexcapades, I would agree with you, although I would have problems voting for him. However, lying to his constituents? I really think that has a lot to do with his job.

I thought it was funny then a raging lib like dr moen, phd specifically calls out that NY republican for shirtless photos only to find out that Weiner did exactly the same thing....and now he's silent? Hmmmm.

If Jim Tressel had to leave Ohio State for lying about some kids selling football memorabilia to get tattoos, then this skinny little punk should definitely resign. Governing is about decision making. He has shown over the last week that is judgement and decision making skills are horrible and that he can not be trusted to make decisions that affect the policies of this nation.

Oh, come on, now you've gone too far! It is an insult to each and every college football coach to draw a direct comparison of their standards of ethics to the ethics of Congress!

Oh, and I guess I should say, that was a sarcastic statement above. But, in part serious, because nowhere else are standards of ethics so low than in our Congress.

And I guess I should say, I could care less about Weiner, but the Tressel thing has me really upset, and I hate Ohio State.

Hell, if you ask me, Weiner, as a Democrat, just enhanced his resume :)

Many of you probably believe that I'm the type to stand on my soapbox and condemn this guy for what he did. That's not the case at all. Now, don't get me wrong: I don't like Anthony Weiner's personality (I think he's an overbearing loudmouth) and I don't like his politics (he's way too liberal). Like RLM said earlier, the sexcapades can be overlooked, but the lying to his constituents should be addressed. I understand that Weiner thought this might blow over or else believed that people would agree that his account was hacked and he could get away with it. You have to realize, when this story came to light, Weiner probably fell to his knees once he realized that everything he's worked so hard for could be gone in an instant. His entire life has changed in the last few days and all his power, influence and reputation are slipping through his fingers like sand and he's unable to stop it. That's got to be quite a blow to someone. Regardless, he was elected to represent his constituents, so he owes an apology to them for initially lying to them. I can sort of understand why he didn't want to immediately blurt out the truth when everything started coming to light. The guy is human and I think that's a natural response.

So, I'm not going to beat the guy up over this. Like I said before, all the stories have stated that the females were of legal age and, I presume, consented to receiving the texts. If that's truly the case, I don't see a problem there. Of course Weiner is trying to get better voting rights for women and a situation like this is an embarrassment for the Democratic Party. Honestly, I think Pelosi will want him gone. But, we'll see. As much as I can't stand liberals and Democrats, I don't think this is going to hurt their party very much even if he stays. What I'd actually like to see are democrats truly standing up for the guy instead of saying rhetoric like, "He made mistakes... blah blah... he's standing up... blah blah... give time for his family to heal... blah blah...". I'd like to see a democrat come out and say, "What he did was a bad thing, he lied about it, we found about it and we don't agree in the least with that type of behavior. He was wrong to do it. We're going to censure him by (fill in the blank)." Then after that.... let it be.

Looks like the facts are out there now. I haven't read any threads from prwe lately but I find it comical but somewhat predictable that you still don't know what the hell your talking about.

It was Weiner who lied, he's in the wrong here. His supporters can't be blamed for that. They can be called naive for believing in him, but the real issue here is Weiner blatantly lying about what he did. I just wish we had some better sound bytes like we did with Clinton. Who can forget the "I did not have sex with that woman" for example. The Weiner's weenie stuff is funny for a bit, as it appeals to our inner eight year old, but it will all be forgotten by next week.

I doubt that it will be gone in a week. From what I hear, they could be more coming. Besides, why would the Reps let it die?
