I'm sorry. I thought many gays wanted to be recognized in churches, and in the same manner as regular marriage ceremonies. Well, now maybe there is room for compromise here. Are you inferring we keep them out of churches?
The law forces the state to legally recognize gay marriage and provide those marriages the same protections and benefits given to traditional marriages. I don't think it requires specific churches to perform marriage cerimonies.
Well then there may be room for compromise IMO. Going by spokespeople like Maddow on PSNBC, they want all to be absolutely and equally recognized, and celebrated just like the traditional straight folks. Maybe we could rename ours "church marriages" and find a happy medium.
I am sure that the will sue the churches to force them to perform marriage cerimonies with discrimination being the basis of the lawsuit, but I am also certain that it will progress through the courts all the way to the top. In the end, I think that freedom of religion will reign supreme over freedom for the.
Maybe it's just that I feel bad for the poor slobs that have to clean the bathrooms are their weddings. Seriously though...I guess we should just s*it can everything traditional in case there is some other group out there that might want to be married in churches too. Gay biker gang weddings ought to be a nice addition to your local Catholic church. Grandma and grandpa living across the street from the churches in their Italian neighborhoods should be thrilled to death to that all the gay dudes can inhale and fire logs from the same hole! What a religious experience!
P No we shouldn't do that to them. It's bad enough being Italian. Ya know tradition doesn't mean right. Aren't we better off without some traditions? Use to be a tradition to own a person. And brother you must watch the strangest porn.
We have different ideas of 'celebrating'. Just because I recognize that the freedoms I enjoy are directly related to the freedoms that others are allowed to enjoy, doesn't mean I agree or celebrate everything that everyone chooses to do with their freedoms, It just means that I celebrate freedom. And this has everything to do with debating the legality. There is a federal law that says marriage is only between a man and a woman. You don't get any more legal than that. If that law didn't exist, there wouldn't be a need for the laws like in this thread, IMO. And this law in this thread specifically says churches don't have to marry people. And, even without that clause, I don't think they would have to do so. After all, they can set their own rules against women doing things so why not gays? I am sure some will choose to marry gays and others won't. This is about the state and if it should be allowed to restrict the freedoms of one group of adults, who have done nothing illegal, and set them apart from another group of adults.
Exactly! When people demonstrate that they cannot or will not behave in a manner that is socially acceptable, when they would purposefully flaunt their "lifestyle" in your face in the form of dress, behavior, whatever, despite the majority of the society around them, simply because "they can", then the state has to step in and legislate their morality for them, since they apparently aren't capable of doing it themselves. Kids walking around with their pants halfway down their ass, loud ass motorcycles, made to be as loud as they can possibly make them, blasting their bass rattling stereos at bone rattling volumes, some ass wipe partying in the row house next to you until dawn the next morning every weekend, whatever. People do as they please. Allowing controversial behavior to be accepted as normal, and on display for everyone else to see and have to tolerate, is a bad idea. People have the right to do whatever they like, in the privacy of their own domain. They do NOT have the right to impose it onto others, or make them accept their "lifestyle" on the beach next to me, at the table next to me at a restaurant, or wherever. You want to smoke pot, enjoy your gayness, fart loudly, whatever...do it on your own time, not around others that might not want to be witness to the behavior. Marriage, one man, one woman. That is and has been the established protocol for the bulk of society. When such a time comes where the gay lifestyle is the majority, and being heterosexual becomes the minority, then perhaps it would be time to address the issue, as to what is recognized and accepted by society as a whole. When in Rome....
It sounds to me as if you don't want other people to enjoy the same freedoms you enjoy. Some people may not enjoy public displays of affection when a man and woman are kissing. I say, "too bad". If a man and another man are kissing, well "too bad" for you if you don't like it. In my opinion, they're all enjoying life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please pack up your archaic notions and catch the next flight to Iran where you'll fit right in. Or join some neo-Nazi group and spout your hatred there. It's all about freedom and here you are on the anniversary of our nation's birth espousing your vile prejudices. You should be ashamed of yourself! LET FREEDOM RING! View attachment 202
So when I sit next to you at a restaurant, and I fart repeatedly and as loud as I possible can, and then laugh and repeat, you'd be cool with that. Freedom right? Of course, I'm sure you think it's just fine for someone to light up a big fat cigar too (when that was ok...aka...legal). You say..."too bad". There ya go. Reason we need the state to legislate things. A**wipes like you. Thanks for making my point for me.
Sorry to hear you equate kissing to farting loudly. Is that how you express your love? We get it man. You don't like gays. Christ, even David doesn't hVe a problem with them. You have this stereotypical notion that all gays prance around like sissies.
I have this stereotypical notion that some gay men like to use the exit chute as an entrance. That's not natural, and kinda gross. Farting loudly is gross too, and offensive. I hope you get it. Gays don't prance around? Hmmm..I'll have to watch "Dancing with the stars" this week and see if I notice anything like prancing or sissy speech. I'll get back to you.
They are? Hell...bomb them right away! Invade! Increase military debt and cut Medicare....immediately!
It's up to the restraunt owner whether you can fart all you want or not in his business. As long as he isn't saying that only straight people can fart while gays can't. Or only whites can and not blacks. Because that would be a civil rights issue then. And I can choose not to eat there if I don't like his decision.
