The solution to our problems...Tax the rich?

Warren Buffett said we should tax the rich more. It sounds good but how much would it increase revenue?

By my calculations, using all my fingers and toes, that is less than $46 billion a year in increased revenues.

The Obama née Bush Great Christmas Tax Cut Compromise of 2010 passed at the end of last year cost $430 billion a year ($860 billion over the 2 years) the vast majority of which was for the tax breaks for income earners under 250k a year.

Considering deficits of over a trillion dollars a year...well, I think everyone already knows where I believe we screwed ourselves. I made it clear when the compromise was passed.

 

Get rid of the Tax cuts, cut defense amongst other goverment projects, then why not add 1c tax per gallon of fuel this to go directly towards debt reduction not into state or goverment coffers
Then start a infrastucture rebuilding programe with minimum wages for those long term unemployed

 

Tax the wealthy. Cut defense. Eliminate big oil subsidies. Eliminate farm subsidies. Revoke SSI for the wealthy (they don't need it). Remove incentives for moving wealth and businesses overseas. Break up monopolies and huge corporations, and eliminate mergers. Oh....and jail all CEO's and freeze/remove their illegally and ill gotten assets and redistribute them to the people they stole them from.

Republicans are against workers uniting. It creates a cheap labor pool to serve their masters. Corporations BLOW, and so do their supporters.

 

Who will create jobs if businesses are eliminated...and don't bring up government ceiling fan production again.

 

The super rich can take all of their low paying jobs and stick them somewhere unpleasant. When they create good jobs and adhere to society's needs and without taking just for the sake of taking, then perhaps you'd have an argument. For now, it's simply wealth disease and I hope you choke on it soon.

I was referring to the big pool of "jobs" the corporate wealthy greedsters are always claiming they generate that we'll lose if we don't let them get MORE tax cuts. You know, that extra 2 hundred bucks that the "business" owners would normally split up amongst a half dozen "employees" weekly.

Well nothing to stop local and national goverment from creating meaningful jobs is there? you have a transport system that could do with a total overhall so why not start on a nation wide road construction project, you could rebuild levies, create new dams etc

 

Our entire infrastructure (roads, bridges, power, etc.) is degrading faster than we can repair it. Another problem is how do we pay for all the repairs/upgrades? We can't create those jobs unless we have the cash to pay the workers.

 

There are only two choices. The private sector or the public sector. Take your pick. I don't really care which sector creates the jobs. The private sector is failing to create jobs and that only leaves the public sector. Does that answer your question?

Sounds like a nanny state where free enterprise is legislated out of business and replaced by the benevolent gov't and the jobs it sees fit to create. Par for the course for dr moen,phd...as long as his lot doesn't change, right?

 

You can assign all the dumbass talking point labels you want but the fact is that you can't argue with the reality as I have spelled it out. All you can say is that if the private sector fails to create enough jobs, there is no other acceptable alternative because of the ideological narrative that spins around in your head. Public sector jobs are the only other source of jobs unless you count criminal activities. It seems like that is what you are suggesting. Nice!

 

Maybe free enterprise needs to be legislated out when their ultimate goal seems to be further enriching themselves through others demise. Today, 100 jobs. After tomorrow's new CEO installation, maybe 30. All while they pay blowhards like Boehner to stand around and yell "hooray" for business.
We don't need that kind of free enterprise, or its proponents. We're not losing anything they weren't already going to take for themselves anyway.

 

Try to put any face on it you wish but the truth remains- Any country whose grand plan for job creation is gov't created & controlled work is destined to fail. What I say may come across as talking points to you but who cares? The truth is the truth.
Now feel free to begin slinging your insults or changing the direction of the thread but you know gov't created jobs are nothing more than a power grab for the one creating the job. You can be content subjecting yourself to gov't work but it just ain't for me, you know?
