Federal Government bad!!! Until you need them to bail you out for cutting your fire department funding by 75%. I wonder what the 1000+ home owners that just watched their houses burn down think of Perry now?

According to KVUE-TV, the state of Texas, under Gov. Rick Perry, cut state funding for the volunteer fire departments that protect most of the state from wildfires. Firefighters have actually been dipping into their own pockets to fight fires.
Volunteer departments that were already facing financial strain had their funding cut from $30 million to $7 million. There are 879 volunteer fire departments in Texas; 114 are paid fire departments, while 187 departments are a combination of volunteer and paid.
At a press conference Monday, Perry promised to seek federal disaster relief and said that FEMA would be in the state by Wednesday.

According to your unrelated to the topic article:

Switzerland held onto the top spot for the third consecutive year….
Singapore moved up to second place, bumping Sweden down to third….
The U.S. was in fourth place last year, after falling from No. 1 in 2008….

Sort of kills your theory doesn't it.

    From Wiki:
Switzerland leads the ranking as the most competitive economy in the world, as the United States, which ranked first for several years, fell to fourth place due to the consequences of the financial crisis of 2007–2010 and its macroeconomic instability.

So Obama began the U.S. slide out of first place retroactively? I know you hate to hear the name George Bush but this didn't happen as a result of Obama just walking into office in 2009. Since his budget wasn’t even in place until 2010, it is unlikely if not impossible for him to be the cause of this. There had to be something pushing this country lower before that point. I know that you guys like to believe the world is only 4,000 or 6,000 years old so I guess believing that history started in January 2009 isn't so hard for you to believe either. Not a real big difference between the top 5 anyway.

I think Rick Perry's Galileo comment stands out as a new chapter in the Bushisms (strike that) Perryisms book. Why would this guy even attempt to reference someone who actually believed in science? LOL! :D

Perry: "Galileo was outnumbered for a spell!" he declared. He got the analogy exactly wrong. Galileo was the scientist; the church and its allies, who knew nothing about the scientific method, were lined up against him. He never answered the question about which scientists he had consulted. He suddenly looked like the guy Karl Rove says he is, "a guy who only cares about soundbites."

Hmmm... Wonder what the health care and social services are like in the countries that beat us out. Will have to do some googling on this. I have a feeling that by the standards of the American RW these people are RABID FOAMING-AT-THE-MOUTH SOCIALISTS :)

    But I'll need to check.
