Being from the South, Shelby Foote indeed may have flown a Confederate flag. Who knows? I doubt it though, since he was such an admirer of Lincoln. But Foote may have also understood that the Confederate flag stood for more than what it's been maligned for. Just as an Islamic flag today stands for so much more than terrorism. If someone today has a heritage from the Confederacy, I don't see a problem with them flying it to acknowledge their heritage. I don't think the flag necessarily connotes hate; it's certainly been maligned that way in the last 150 years, however. I don't see a problem flying an Islamic flag either. However, I don't think the Confederate flag should be flown in certain places just as I don't think an Islamic flag should be flown in certain places simply out of courtesy and the sensitivities of certain viewers.
Well, southern food is disappearing for the last few generations do not cook much no matter what part of the nation they live in. The southern accents are fading away and states or part of states used to have their own. The landscape is changing with less farmers more pizza huts, you get the picture. So without the flag there is no difference between the guy who moved into north carolina last year and the guy whose family lived there for the last three or four hundred years or so.
I'd have to disagree. On public property? No way. But if on their own property people like this lady want to advertise to the world that they are reactionary racist bigots, which is how I view her, that's fine with me and I think that they certainly have that right. We'll fly our rainbow flag whenever we feel like it, although admittedly it's not going to bother many people in this neighborhood. In the same way she has a right to her rebel battle flag.
You may have a very valid point there even without the music. Speaking of Deliverance, I am reminded about the squeal like a pig scene and wondered if Tom got banned again.
Tom is quite the character with his gay references and having an avatar with a man in a dress. Lehigh had an avatar with something about Ban on it so you may be right that they have a little game going on if not with each other then with this site. Takji took the gloves off and replaced the deep fish in a bowl with cat outsided with a warrior banishing a sword, Takji is taking no sh@. In anycase you have a peacefully easy feeling avatar and I think you come across without drama.
Take note of the waves though... ...I tend to make a few here. As for my avatar, while it may look peaceful (to me it was) the wind was strong that day, and made some nice waves in Lake Superior. I really wanted to swim in those waves but I was heading home from work and couldn't... well, could have in my pants I guess... skinny-dipping was out of the question since there were people nearby lol So to me it's peaceful, but with some attitude, or spunk.
