God gets like that sometimes. He'll come round for cocktails, never calls ahead, but that's okay. He's great company and after a few he'll sometimes let slip some pretty good stuff. He knows everything you know. So how does he appear to you?
I'll continue paying my share of taxes as I've always done. I object to having to pay more because people like you refuse to carry their own weight. I object to paying more in taxes because of BO's folly.
The 9% income tax is a huge break for most. The national sales tax is individually controllable based on one's consumption and broadens the tax base tremendously. As for drawbacks, my biggest concern would be 9-9-9 today but 10-10-10 tomorrow..and so on..unless our massive spending isn't reigned in.
I think this is at least the 3rd time you've tucked tail when the issue of you not wanting to pull your own weight has come up.
Really? Let’s take the bottom 50% because 50% seems pretty close to "most". They currently do not pay Federal Income taxes because they earn too little, or have kids that enable them to take a 3700 dollar deduction for each kid and they earn so little that they pay none, and the elderly on Social Security that are exempt from paying Federal income tax. Take these people and add 9% to everything they buy from food to clothes and tell me how the majority of people are going to get a huge break. I guess they can choose to not buy food as you point out and not pay the 9% but starving to death seems like a silly way to save money. This is nothing more than cost shifting the tax burden from the top earners to the bottom earners. You end up distributing the tax base from the wealthy to the poor who combined have only 2% of the country's wealth. The revenue that we need to run this country would plummet while the wealthy would pour even more of their money into overseas manufacturing.
I'm not for anyone starving but if the expectation that everyone needs to contribute is the impetus to get some of these people off their butts maybe it isn't as bad as you seem to think. See, I tend to believe the majority of people who get away without paying any taxes (or even get back a check for more than they paid to begin with) are people like iqless & tomc...people who are capable but simply choose not to. In order for any tax reform to work every aspect needs to be looked. I don't oppose means testing for Social Security recipients and I sure advocate drug testing & the like for anyone else getting aid. Let's take care of the kids, the elderly in need, the veterans & the truly sick but we also need to hold those who are capable of producing accountable.
You do know that when they say the bottom 50% don't pay any taxes, in reality they don't make enough to pay FEDRAL INCOME TAXES only? We are not talking about state and local taxes, we are not talking about sales taxes, we are not talking property taxes, we are not talking utility taxes, and all the other taxes EVERYONE pays. You do know this right?
So you know that they actually do pay taxes but you keep saying that they pay no taxes? Interesting tactic.
That's how you see it, I see it for what it is, a reluctance to discuss a subject with an *poof* who has an even larger reluctance to discuss points that he can't spin into a hate-filled vitriol against Obama, the Democrats, or liberals.
...says the rich man to the poor... ...that's why I'd liketo see you experience being poor. I'd like to see all your assets taken away, all your accounts removed, your home(s) sold off, your cars driven off... only you, a suitcase of clothes, and the outdoors left. Even that wouldn't give you enough insight on what it truely is like to be poor, so your teeth should be ground down, exposing the nerves, and you should have some bodily injuries to live with, so fall down a few hillsides 'till you can't crawl back up. Even then I doubt you'd understand because you just don't have the capacity, or compassion, to do so.
Why would you wish this on anyone? It seems mean-spirited. I've noticed this attitude from a lot of liberals.
It is mean-spirited, but I save that mean-spirited response for those special individuals or groups that I judge to deserve it.
But, what you wished upon David I would not wish upon even my worst enemy. Do you despise him THAT much?!?!
What I wished for him to experience is what poor people experience on a daily basis in order for him to have a better understanding of how life is for a poor person. His near-complete lack of understanding or compassion for the poor is the cause of my ire.
I've experienced being poor & I made a decision I didn't want to live that way...and nobody (including myself) was going to make me believe I couldn't be successful Partner, I've earned everything I have. I've worked hard, sacrificed and acted responsibly to get to where I am now & some envious slacker isn't going to make me feel guilty about it. I take pride in knowing my kids get the advantage of experiencing things I never could.
Trust me, I have a great deal of compassion for the truly needy..people who by no fault of their own can't get by without help. What I do not have compassion for are people who have chosen to just slide by on the backs of others..this is how I see you. You know, you never have answered as to why additional schooling or starting your own enterprise would not be an option.
