Please define "poor".

 

Don't be stupid. You know what poor is... or should know. But, for the stupid:

If you go without food for a day or more, once a week or more, for lack of money... you might be poor. Though most people wouldn't know that about you.

If you go to a hospital with a broken bone, and the hospital says it's broken, yet does nothing to help you and charges you for the service and expects you to pay on your way out (though you have no money)... you might be poor. Though most people wouldn't know that about you.

If you sit in your home and the lights go out and it's Winter and the heat goes out because you failed to pay your electricity bill in time... you might be poor... or old. Every year I hear of an older person dying this way. Though most people wouldn't know that about you.

If you live in the woods in a tent and beg, borrow, or steal what you need to survive... the only people who know you are there are the people in the same situation as you, or the police who harrass you as often as they feel like... Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter... you might be poor. Though most people wouldn't know that about you.

You might not see it... but it's everywhere. So, don't be stupid. You know what poor is.

No stupidity on my part, just apparent ignorance on yours. You still haven't defined "poor", but you say their "numbers are increasing". If by "poor", you mean the absence of wealth, then please define the parameters of "wealth".

I just find it funny that a party that has pretty much been dominated by white males can have one of its apologists accuse the party that has been far more racially and gender diverse all along of hating minorities and women candidates. It just smacks of hypocrisy start to finish. And calling women a minority just further proves how clueless they are.

Obviously poverty is increasing and increasing at an alarming rate. A 21% increase in 9 years is not only astounding it is in the wrong direction altogether. Going backwards is a result of income inequality that is being pushed by the agenda of the Right.

 

Like Gandhi would side with you on this issue.

 

That's funny--the Small Business Administration has considered the female sex to be a minority for a long time. Are they hypocrites, too? And I don't remember the "party" stating that women were a minority to begin with--wasn't that one person's opinion? Why are you so wrapped up with numbers, anyway, in terms of defining a minority?

Are you and IQLess1 channeling Gandhi now? How do you two know how he'd think?

Seriously, you guys would be easier to converse with or debate with if you weren't in attack mode all of the time.

 

A. We were talking about politics not business.
B. David claimed that women were minorities.
C. Sorry about being "so wrapped up with numbers", I just assumed they had something to do with the concept of minorities.
D. Gandhi beliefs are well-known to those that have read them. Channeling him is hardly necessary and we didn't bring Gandhi up, Okie did.
E. A debate is by nature a point-counterpoint exercise. If you know another format, please share it with the rest of us.

We’d also be easier to converse with if we just accepted everything that was put out there without question but then again that would make us Right-wingers.

 

A. I guess I have a hard time understanding how a group can be a part-time minority using the same set of social rules.

B. Last I knew, David is not "the party."

C. I guess you just skipped over the part of my post where I explained this factor. It is possible to have majority numbers and a "minority" voice. Apartheid mean anything to you?

D. Gandhi's words have been interpreted and reinterpreted so many times by so many people and organizations in order to justify their actions, that it is impossible to know exactly what they mean or meant any longer. I think its disgusting when people do it to justify their actions in the animal rights movement and I think it's just as disgusting here.

E. It is possible to disagree without being disagreeable. "Debate" is not defined as "a series of attacks meant to denigrate your opponent." A debate is a discussion of opposing sides. Although debate can be contentious, debating was once considered a "gentlemanly" pastime and rudeness was not part of the game.

Debate technique is a communications course, not a history course. Way to expand your contribution to this debate beyond one sentence. I wonder when you'll figure out how to use a question mark at the end of a sentence? Hum?
