Strange not a peep out of you lot about this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...-suspect-had-obsession-with-Barack-Obama.html http://edition.cnn.com/2011/11/16/justice/dc-white-house-bullet/
That is because we already know that the RW'ers here will deny the connection to the rhetoric of their own party coming out of this guy's mouth. When you have unbalanced people that have a tenuous grasp of reality in the first place and you continually bombard them 24/7 with a message of hatred and distrust of government, people like this are bound to be the ones that will go over the edge and randomly pick up weapons and act. Police said that Ortega-Hernandez had become 'obsessed' with Obama and that God had given him a personal mission to attack the White House. 'He hates the president, he hates Washington, he hates society,' another official told the Washington Post. Just sounds a lot like the messages you get out of Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, and O'Reilly. The RW’ers will deny a connection of course but when the same message is coming out this guy's mouth that we regularly hear from the RW talking heads, the connection is just undeniable.
Just curious, but is there anything in your life besides us and them? Is there anything you think just might be non-political or have you managed to even assign the different illnesses a right wing or left wing connotations? http://abcnews.go.com/US/white-hous...andez-arrested/story?id=14966099#.TsVVRPKwVic
It's a wonder that Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi aren't dead 100,000,000 times over already, then, if all it takes is someone watching television and listening to radio to entice people into the act. You don't have to be a conservative to dislike Obama. I know many liberals who say that he is destroying this country--and none of us have taken up a gun yet. There are many "unbalanced" people in the world and most of them are non-violent no matter how much media they take in.
And yet not a single word of condemnation of this guy for what he tried to do from either side of the political divide LOL
Why does there need to be condemnation? He is suspected of committing a criminal act. If he's guilty, then he's guilty. If he's not, then he's not. If he's mentally unbalanced, then he may or may not be responsible for what he did. If he's not, then he'll pay for his crime (assuming he's found guilty). I think people waste too much time pointing fingers and blaming one side or another for crimes when most crimes should be considered acts of personal responsibility and liability.
Anyone would agree that what this guy did was unacceptable. But, to try to psychoanalyze this guy using news reports or blogs in an attempt to determine his motives is simply pathetic. For all we know, he has Obama Derangement Syndrome and wanted to be the only man in Obama's life. Trying to pin his motives on the right wing is, well, being a Dupnik.
I'm 100% positive that there is lot more to my life than there is to yours. Forgive me for thinking some nut taking pot-shots at the White House might just have a political angle. What was I thinking?
So, you're listening to the words of this guy and automatically pinning his actions on the right wing. Now THAT'S being a Dupnik!
According to CNN, this man is being charged with an assassination attempt on the president. Isn't that a treason charge? In any case, he faces life in prison: http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/17/justice/dc-white-house-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 ETA Gloriosky, Sandy! Come on, guys--can we not have a single discussion in which you folks DO NOT make yourselves the center of attention? Are your lives that important or your egos that big that you feel the need to have your name-calling be the center of attention on every thread?
While the man may be mentally unstable, and that in itself is a defense, that no connection can be made to right-wing rhetoric is unrealistic. Like it or not, the rhetoric is influential to stable and unstable people... and IMO the right-wing's rhetoric is far more hatred-driven than the left's.
If he were liberal and unstable and tried to shoot the president, would he have been just as influenced by the rhetoric? Not everyone puts as much importance on political rhetoric as you do. And in my opinion, the left is more hateful than the right. That's the nice thing about opinions. We can both hold our own positions and neither of us be wrong.
I don't think he is liberal or conservative. I think he is unstable, obviously, and has been convinced by people on the Right, previously mentioned, that he has a lot to fear from government, the president, and society in general. I don't believe his personal politics are relevant. If you are unstable, you are just a gun with a finger on your trigger waiting for something to aim at. People like Limbaugh, Beck, and pretty much the entire Fox so called news cast more than likely serve the function of pointing this guy and people like him at their tagets.
I can understand why you wouldn't want your side to be singled out AGAIN after yet another one of these incidences and why you would try and make this only a question of our side and their side. The reality is that your hate merchants do have an effect that you just have trouble acknowledging. I get it.
But the question remains: how do you know what influenced him? Mentally unstable people can be influenced by many things. David Berkowitz believed that the devil was speaking to him through his neighbor's Labrador retriever. Many mentally unstable people believe that they hear voices through paintings or that they are receiving personal messages through the television--no matter who is speaking. By making it a "he was influenced by the Right" sort of deal, all you are doing is molding the facts to fit your own worldview.
I could care less what YOU think, but I am curious as to how you determined that alcoholism and drug addiction have been assigned to the "right wingers" in you little world.
