Ok, you are sleeping with the guy who actually delivered you as a baby? Never mind that he is 40-years older than you are and an abortion doctor which you think would sort run against your current Christian values but hey, there was a free piano in the deal. This woman is definitely First Lady material. Santorum’s wife dated abortion doctor in the 1980s: report In-depth look at Karen Santorum's time dating the obstetrician comes as conservative and evangelical leaders have rallied around the former Pennsylvania senator An abortion doctor has detailed his past romantic relationship with a 20-something nurse who went on to become the wife of pro-life GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum. Karen Santorum, 51, was years away from meeting her politician hubby, Rick Santorum, when she struck up a six-year love affair with “dashing” Pittsburgh abortion doc Tom Allen, who opened up to The Daily Beast about their time living together. While the relationship has been reported before, the in-depth look at Karen Santorum’s time dating the obstetrician — who was 40 years her senior — comes as conservative and evangelical leaders have rallied around the former Pennsylvania senator ahead of Saturday’s South Carolina primary. Allen, who co-founded Pittsburgh’s first abortion clinic in the 1970s, actually delivered Karen Santorum as a baby in 1960. She was then known as Karen Garver. Her parents remained friendly with Allen, and the two hooked up 22 years later when she was a nursing student at Duquesne University and was looking for an apartment to rent. Allen, now 92, remembered his ex as “a lovely girl, very intelligent and sweet,” The Daily Beast’s Nancy Hass wrote. Yet in those days there was no sign of the devout Christian anti-abortion crusader that she became later in life, alongside her politician husband, Allen said. “Karen had no problems with what I did for a living,” Allen said. “We never really discussed it.” She moved into the 63-year-old’s basement apartment in 1982, and before long the two were sharing a bed, Hass wrote. Allen said the romance “wasn't a big deal,” adding that he had a couple of younger girlfriends before bedding the future wife of Santorum. “He was very well known and respected in town, and pretty dashing,” pal Curt Katz told The Daily Beast. “They were quite the couple.” Friends recalled that the older beau acted as his younger gal pal’s cultural mentor, bringing her on trips to Europe and Asia, taking her to the Pittsburgh symphony, and buying her a Steinway piano after she mentioned an interest in learning to play the instrument. During their six-year affair, the future Mrs. Santorum never seemed bothered by her older beau’s abortion practice, friends said, confirming the doctor’s opinion. One friend of the couple, Mary Greenberg, said Karen Santorum even offered to accompany her to a Pittsburgh abortion clinic in 1983. “She told me it wasn't that bad, that I shouldn't be worried," Greenberg told The Daily Beast. “She was very supportive.” The pair split in 1988 after Karen Santorum said she wanted to have children — something Allen had no interest in doing. She told him to keep the piano. Karen Santorum later met her future husband and the two married in 1990. As a conservative-backed rival to GOP front-runner Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum’s faith-inspired views, including his hardline stance against abortion, are key to his appeal. On the campaign trail, the candidate has said that both he and his wife’s opposition to abortion strengthened after they lost a child to a miscarriage in 1997. What is creepy is that people would actually search into a potential nominee's wife's early life (before they had even met) and report about a relationship from the early 80's. It's also creepy that someone here would advance this tabloid behavior. For some reason "get a life" pops to mind. So she dated an older man? moen, you shouldn't throw stones- you have admitted to allowing your young son to "keep company" with an adult woman, have you not? Now that's creepy. You have told stories about sitting in your apt or dorm room & leering at people through the windows. That's creepy.
So, if this story were not an anti-Santorum story, would the doctor still have been referred to as an "abortion doctor?" Or would he have been a "repro specialist?"
So if I understand this, BO's religious mentor is not newsworthy, and BO's political mentor is not newsworthy, but Santorum's wife's previous love is? Does anyone else see anything askew with that logic or is it just me?
Heck, we don't even know what BO was doing in his early 20's!! Typical left wing hypocrisy at it's worse....it's none of our business that Clinton was preying on an intern in the Oval Office but it's big-moen news what sombody's wife was doing 30 years ago. Geesh.
The peanut gallery responses I knew that I would get. You can only look into the past of Democrats. Right? And never look into the past of your own side. There is no one in Obama's past that hasn't been singled out for scrutiny but if you want to talk about someone as close to the presidency as the possible First Lady, there is nothing to see here. Right? You guys are just too, too easy to play with. Thanks for playing. Blather on all you want now.
Really? That's the best you've got? "I knew you guys would say that"? You always disappoint but at least you're consistent.
I'm just so worried about disappointing RW'ers. You know it just keeps me awake at night thinking about it. The way I figure it, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, you guys will be the only ones left on earth. After all, don’t zombies pretty much exclusively eat brains? It must be nice to have such natural defenses. Speaking of Zombies... Brains....Brains....Brains!!!! View attachment 356
Would any member of this forum like to claim that not a single story about President Obamas friendships supposed or otherwise prior to his becoming President of the United States of America were never aired on this forum? Any one care to say that when he was running for the Presidency the news reports were not full of his past associations and the behaviour of some of those he had met? LOL sorry folks but get real when it was the other sides guy you were all over him like a rash regardless as to how true or untrue the stories were
I don't know or care, since I wasn't here then . . . what does concern me is that this is non-news about a candidate and is nothing more than a manufactured issue about one of the candidate's *wives*. How much was written about *Michelle* Obama here, when Obama was running for the presidency? That's the issue in this thread. And, speaking of family issues . . . am I the only one who noticed that the posters' families are starting to be dragged into "discussion" again? I do have to ask, Moen, have you abandoned the ACORN thread? Did you see the responses there from this morning?
I honestly don't think it's fair to bring the family of a politician into the discussion. Unless, of course, the family member interjects themselves ala Chelsea Clinton or Ronald Reagan, Jr. A thread like this deserves to be shut down.
Well, I do kind of remember those things now that you mention it. The (not then) First Lady may have been mentioned as well. But that's different.
Moen seems to think so, but there is nothing in that video that warrants personal attacks. He's grabbing at straws.
But then there is your post saying... But only when Democrats interject themselves right? Sad hypocrites on the Right.
