24th straight month of job growth in the private sector

The Obama economic policies seem to be working in spite of everything you hear from Boehner, McConnell, and Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and the rest on the political Right and their subsidiary Fox News. How do you suppose that they are going to spin this track record of success?

Private sector job growth increases, politicians view situation differently

February marked the 24th straight month of job growth in the private sector with the addition of 233,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate remained steady at a three-year low of 8.3 percent, and Tennessee's unemployment rate recently dropped below the national average.

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said the most recent numbers indicate more confidence in the economy, which is prompting employers to add people to their payrolls.

"We've had 24 straight months of private sector job growth, adding more than 3.9 million jobs to an economy that was bleeding almost 800,000 jobs in a single month when President Obama took office," she said. "U.S. job growth over the last six months has been the strongest since before the recession began in 2006."

She also said that the accelerated job growth is spread across a range of industries, but one area of concern is construction, which lost 13,000 jobs in February.

Edmunds.com Chief Economist Lacey Plache said the recent job numbers are good news for the auto industry.

"This morning’s strong jobs report for February—including the upward revisions for January and December—provide evidence that February's impressive auto sales were based on growing economic strength," she said. "This bodes well for auto sales momentum in the upcoming months. Improvements on the jobs front should help counterbalance any softening in consumer confidence caused by rising gas prices."

Democratic and Republican leaders have different takes on these numbers.

U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tenn., said in a prepared statement that he is pleased about the number of new jobs added, but he said he is concerned about the 8.3 percent unemployment rate.

And he blames that on President Barack Obama and other Democrats, he said.

"The lack of progress in our job creation is a missed opportunity for President Obama and Senate Democrats," he said. "Whether it is refusing the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline or leaving 28 House-passed jobs bills to die in the Senate, it is obvious that Democrats are more interested in playing politics than creating jobs."

Brandon Puttbrese, communications director for the Tennessee Democratic Party, said the numbers speak for themselves and that it is Fleischmann who is the one playing politics.

"The Republicans are being awfully selective in what they are talking about with jobs bills," he said. "The president, last fall, laid out a whole host of proposals that would put Tennesseans back to work ... Chuck Fleischmann voted against nearly every single piece.

"For him to be shouting, jumping up and down, pointing his finger like a kid in the schoolyard is hypocrisy and Washington politics at its worst," he also said. "If he is serious about putting Tennesseans back to work, he needs to learn how to extend an open hand instead of a clinched fist."

After the numbers came out Friday, national news outlets wrote stories analyzing the situation.

CNN Money created a graphic to illustrate the unemployment situation, and NPR wrote about the people who aren't counted in the unemployment numbers—those who have stopped looking for work altogether.

The Associated Press reported that these numbers might benefit President Barack Obama's re-election efforts.

And, although some said the numbers create confidence, Reuters reported that negative perceptions about the job market remain.

Very easily. Jobs have grown so slowly that they have not usually even kept up with the population growth.

Statements such as this are much more effective when supported by citing a reputable source.

Excellent, and thank you. I must have missed the part in that article where it says that President Obama was caught fudging job numbers. I guess I'll have to read it again.

Yet the Right has yet to credit Obama for any job growth whatsoever. Here is your proof.

While just about any major news source you looked at today headlined last months job growth figures from CNN to the Washington Post, Fox News buried the story as if they were afraid to acknowledge something accoding to Politico. Bias certain exists in the news business but it usually isn't quite so overt as Fox tends to make it. Way to set the bar at a new low Fox.

OMG! You go to facebook for your news? Really!

BTW, it was headlined as soon as the figures were released this morning on their TV channel, but then you would have missed that since you don't listen to them.

Look through my posts here, if you care to, and you will find that I am not a particular supporter of President Obama. On the other hand, when somebody makes a specific accusation of malfeasance, I like to be sure that it is correct. In this case, I have seen no evidence that Obama had any involvement whatsoever in obtaining the apparently inaccurate information shown by Recovery.gov.

First of all, who even mentioned Facebook and second what is wrong with Facebook? In case the 21st century hasn't reach your neck of the woods yet, social media like Facebook is more popular than all the traditional news outlets combined.
BTW They are a cable station not a TV channel. Again, what century do you live in. If you had actually read the link I posted, you'd know what they were talking about was the online posts for CNN, The Washington Post, Fox News, etc., NOT the "TV channel". I know all this new fangled “interweb” stuff is confusing but try and keep up or shut up as they say.

Whatever floats your boat. And, yes, I actually looked at the page you referenced. Had you looked, you would find that the bottom half (or more) of the page is nothing but facebook comments. And, no, there is nothing wrong with facebook. But as you say, it is social media. If that is the type of news you like, go for it. However, I prefer regular news.

Are you aware that there are more people on Facebook today than there were people on the entire planet 200 years ago? Yes it is a social media but it is the single most pervasive connection that exists between people across the globe. I would dismiss it at your own peril.

For RWers a washed brain is a Godly brain. Dump it every day and hose it out thoroughly at least once a week. Better yet, just don't put anything in it to begin with.
