This was interesting and BTW irrefutable. Yesterday, Romney bussed a bunch of news wonks to the site of Solyndra and stated among other things, "The Inspector General said contracts were steered to ‘friends and family." The only problem with that statement is that it is completely false and Romney knows it or even scarier, he doesn't know it. The Energy Department inspector general Gregory Friedman never said that. It is a bald face lie. “The Inspector General said contracts were steered to ‘friends and family.’” That sounded like news. I’ve spent two years in stimulus-world, and I had no idea an inspector general had said that. I asked the Romney campaign for documentation, and it produced a Newsweek article asserting that Energy Department inspector general Gregory Friedman “has testified that contracts have been steered to ‘friends and family.’” Except that Newsweek article was an excerpt from the book “Throw Them All Out,” written by Peter Schweizer, a right-winger who has served as an adviser to Sarah Palin’s PAC, edited one of Andrew Breitbart’s websites, and written a slew of books portraying liberals as pond scum. Not exactly a disinterested source. And it turns out that the inspector general never testified that stimulus contracts were steered to friends and family. He said his office was investigating whether stimulus contracts were steered to friends and family. So far, it hasn’t confirmed that any were. Has Romney bothered to correct this lie? No actually he features it in a campaign Ad. Does the Ad work on stupid people? Oh yeah!
If that's the best that Romney's team can come up with, he has no chance of winning...not that his chances are very great under the best of circumstances, but really...that was pretty pathetic on their part.
Well, there is always that stupid people angle he is working and Gods know we have plenty of RW'ers here easily gullible enough to jump onboard with any lie because it fits their narrative. Stupid is as stupid does.
