I'm getting annoyed at all this "Happy Holidays" junk. There was even an article about the debate in the newspaper today. 95% of Americans are Christian. The other 5% can politley say "I'm sorry, I celebrate..." and the wisher can apologize and correct themselves. Nothing that need end up on 20/20. The radio calling "Silent Night" 'holiday' music, TV afraid to dare speak the word "Christmas", and zero mention of Chanakkah. Have we all been so concerned with being politically correct that we're insulting the one's we're trying not to? Am I at all over-reacting?
One could say the same about people who get their panties in a bunch at happy holidays... Well, this nation is not owned by christians, it is secular and I hope it stays that way...so how many christians are in our borders means nothing. In the end, when it comes to this endless debate, to me it just seems like a nothing issue. I dont care at all...merry christmas, happy holidays, both are just fine with me...all it means to me is a few days off work...thank you Jesus and merry christmas and happy holidays to all ya'll
I use these two to make a point: Happy non-denominational mulit-cultural December holiday-type events Happy ChriswanzakkahdanXstice. It cover Christmas for Christians, Kwanza for African Americans, Chaunakkah for the Jewish, Rammadan for Muslims, X-mas for the secular "Christmas," and the winter solstice for Wiccans) Also, apparently saying "Happy New Year is an offense anymore. Sure, other religions celebrate different days, but our official and legal New Year's Day is January 1st. Of course, I'm the guy that wished everyone a Happy New Millenium going into 2001, which is technically the correct start of the new millenium.
Most of you know I'm an ordained Christian minister. My whole theory on this issue is that one shouldn't worry what others say. It's not society's job to support or oppose your faith. It's your faith's job to support or oppose society wherever appropriate. "Jesus himself gave us his charge. Go therefore and make disciples of all the earth, training everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life." So if someone says "Happy Holidays" to you, reply with "Merry Christmas." You just might make a disciple
Chuckle, that's what my mom would have wished everyone, but she also read a lot of Sybil Leek and similar material... Take Care & Merry Christmas Ben
Nope, you ain't over-reacting Due to the ever-increasing cost of postage, and my decreasing ability to write legibly, here is my card to cover every holiday for the rest of our lives.
please....common sense has no place in this matter...where is the outrage on this all important issue!!
