Valuable Protection, How Far Would You Go???

rotobeast, I don't need no stinking permit. If my life is threatened then woe to them.

Let me add that here in Georgia they have permit to carry but there are exceptions. If you are in your domicile ( house or car) then a permit is not needed. If you have a piece in your car then it has to be in the glove box (does not have to be locked) or in plain view (it cannot be covered by a newspaper). The law was also amended to include the storage box between the front seats. If you are carrying a weapon to your car then it has to be unloaded and then you load it in the car but in open view if you don't pay the $15 fee. Loaded or unloaded is not in the formula once the piece is in the car and of course your home.

The only thing permit to carry would give me is carrying it into a McDonalds or WalMart. Something I would never consider, because I might get cold french fries and lose it!

 

Speaking of permits, a little over a year ago I was stopped by the HW Patrol down in Texas (just south of Dallas on I-45) because of my out-of-state Veterans Administration (VA) plates. He was honest, he'd never seen any VA Plates like them and wanted to make sure things were on the up and up.

I pulled out my DL, Reg, Ins, and CCW permit & handed it all to him. He then went back to his patrol-car and ran the checks. In about 5 minutes he comes back and asks if I'm currently packing a weapon and I say "yes." Then he wants to know just what caliber and make of pistol I'm carrying. I ended up taking it out of the glove box and we talked a few minutes about the comparisons of the .45 to the 9mm and the .40 which he carried, really personable fellow. I found out he went to a rival High School and I knew of his older brother. It's really a small world.

Now some of us would have gone ballistic and freaked out with a lawsuit because of the trooper asking all those intrusive questions. He was simply doing his job in a very dangerous environment, the I-45 corridor between Houston and Dallas. You see Texas is a big state with a lot of little towns, just like the rest of America and the people who really put it on the line and protect us are everyday Americans. Remember that when you deal with others, especially others you don't know.

 

I'll be getting my permit just because it is a good option.
I've carried plenty of times without it, whenever I have felt the need.

Here in Ohio, 99% of businesses have it posted that they do not allow firearms on the premises.
I never got that, because someone intent on breaking the law would surely not worry about their little posting.

I probly wouldn't carry very often.
I get road-rage REEEEAAAALLLLY bad.

Boneybigger, What is the best short arm weapon for close combat with hypotheitcal sheet metal between you? I would say a 357 magnum. A 44 might sting my wrist.

Yes, I reckon a little owl-headed .357 or a .38 Special would punch thru the sheet metal.

Personaly, depending on the thickness of your hypothetical sheet metal, I would favor a modified 12 ga. shotgun.
Preferrebly a Remington 870 with pistol grips, extended shell tube, nylon grips, and a mounted tactical light.
I'd load it with standard velocity 2 ¾-inch #1 buck shotshell (16 pellet payload) from Federal, Remington or Winchester.

In your scenario, it seems you wouldn't necessarily be able to see your target.
With the 12 ga., you would be more likely to hit your target.
Of course, if your sheet metal was too thick, this wouldn't be a good option.

 

Told you to try the SPAS even comes with a nice folding stock, and I have seen them with LARGER CLIPS LOL
