From what I am reading this morning, Joe Biden is now out actively campaigning. He is in a high risk category for Covid. What would happen if the worst were to take place and the man contracted Covid and passed away prior to November 11? Would Ms. Harris then become the Democratic nominee?

I guess the same thing could be asked about either candidate. Trump tried to disparage Biden last night for wearing masks all of the time which is the safe thing to do for everybody while Trump has large-ish political rallies where the only people wearing masks are sitting directly behind him. It matters not that these rallies are held in open-air venues if the participants are sitting or standing shoulder-to-shoulder. I still think Trump is at a greater risk than Biden. Trump is overweight and eats like a teenager. Biden is fit and is only 3 years older than Trump.

But to answer the question, I believe that the ticket on both sides would continue and the VP's would step into the role as the elected leader in either case.

Kind of begs the question now doesn't it?

By Party policy, if Biden were to pass before November 3rd, the DNC board members would nominate and vote in a new candidate, it would be easy to assume that Harris would be stepping up.

The answer is they would vote for Harris.

If you want to study history, look at the 1872 election. Horace Greeley died in late November, before the Electoral College voted. Greeley had lost the election so it didn’t matter, but electors didn’t know what to do. Some of them voted for the dead man. Today, they would vote for the vice presidential candidate.

If Biden wins, Harris will be President soon enough. Biden is fragile and won’t last long.
