Since it can be manufactured without all that extra anti-smog, emission reduction and other such crap unilaterally mandated by California law.

Once the constraints on availability of essential elements become more obvious to the auto industry, I'm looking forward to it sticking it's collective finger in the eye of Cali, and manufacturing to meet a more reasonable standard instead.

It'll be a while, but I'm convinced it's coming, especially as the decreasing number of residents of Cali who can afford the escalating prices of such vehicles will make the sales volume in that territory much less attractive to the manufacturers.

The exodus from California foretells its loss of influence over the rest of the world . . . it has taken things too far, and will soon learn that.

 

Higher production volumes providing more units available for allocating fixed and overhead cost coupled with the all the tax credits and other subsidies may be enough to bring the consumer cost of EVs to a competitive level with ICE automobiles. The EV manufacturing supply chain should also benefit from economies of scale.

 

Ain't gonna happen. Once a quasi-monopoly develops you will pay what is demanded. What about the electric grid rebuild and more charging stations, all powered for the most part by fossil fuels? What is to be done to help those affected by diminishing water sources? Do you not understand the non-fossil fuel electric world is a pretext used to gain more control of the populace?

 

Interesting post. I am currently looking for a PHEV or a HEV vehicle to replace my gas burning vehicle. The availability of these types of vehicles is staggeringly small right now due to high demand. I've called dealers in several states trying to find the model I am looking for and have had no luck. I want to take advantage of the $7,500 Federal rebate as well as the $2,500 state rebate some states are offering. Trading in my used car and never using gas again is more savings than I really need to afford one of these new vehicles.

It was an interesting thread until you poked your nose in and spoiled it with your pomposity. Why would you purchase a PHEV or HEV? In the pure sense of the word, initialism's are Hybrid dual function, gasoline and electric, one can be plug-in charged and one, at this point, cannot. You should get educated before you expose yourself as a fraud and say what you mean.

I have been following the rise of the EV for some time and you are the one in need of a bit of research, re. "22 long rifle" and now HEV, PHEV and EV.
You may (?) know your end goal, however you are surely taking a circuitous route. You will have to purchase an EV (electric vehicle) such as a Tesla, which is an all electric vehicle, if you wish to eliminate the use of petroleum. You should be acquainted with the bare minimum of facts before you preach from your pulpit.
