Actually, I've lived in a pretty complete spectrum of socio-economic circumstances, except being uber-wealthy of course.

The truth almost always lies somewhere between the extremes being argued, and very rarely is the bigger picture ever presented, mostly because what motivates those making opposing arguments is usually much closer to home than it is truly altruistic. That's one reason I filter most of what I read, see and hear with a healthy dose of skepticism.

I think I do a pretty darned good job of distinguishing the real from the wishful.

Then why don't you believe in the measurements we have for it? I admit unemployment and workforce participation rates aren't direct ways to measure disdain for work. Do you think there is a better way to measure the perceived problem?

Why would the Fed want to measure the problem? It seems to me that would not be advantageous to their political agenda….. Look there is plenty of information to be gleaned from measurable data. There is also plenty of data to be gleaned from people that have more life experience than ourselves. I can tell you as a matter of fact that ten years ago when I advertised for help, it was a chore to get my head wrapped around the volume of applicants….. I have had a well compensated position with free health care and two weeks paid vacation offered almost a year now. I have yet to have an applicant under 57 years of age. Why? Because the work is in an office and not at home. If I knew the answer to our dilemma, I would implement it. But we do have a problem in the workplace. Look, I am dead set that I want young blood in my place, but I am almost at the point that I will fill my position with a Boomer and I hate that. I truly want to provide a young person with a future. But until we re-teach the value of work in the minds of young people, I suppose those of us that have jobs to offer will do what we have to do.

It is advantageous because then it can actually be fixed. I'm assuming you disagree then with workforce participation and unemployment as good measures of willingness to work?

It sounds like the answer might be allowing work from home in some form. A lot of companies are trying this in different ways. You could start by saying they can do it 1 day per week, and every year they stay with you it increases by 1 day until they only come in 1 time per week. Even pre-pandemic I know of some companies that used that style of plan.

There's more extreme ones now that advocate for wfh as the default. Doing this, you can hire from anywhere in the country, increasing your talent pool. You might require them in the office once per month as a way to check in/do a all hands meeting or workshop. Talent is potentially cheaper this way too, as you can hire from places with a lower cost of living and adjust accordingly.

All this aside, it seems you're conflating your personal issues with systemic ones. I don't mean to devalue your experience, but it doesn't seem to measurably generalize to the state of the country.

You little brainwashed, ignorant, Commie. Who are you to determine what someone needs? Do you think the enemy of my country's leaders live well beyond there needs? You and your girlie-man ilk need to learn that life is not fair. What exactly have you done in your life to help your fellow man besides whine about the human condition.

Consider this: we have roughly 34 million food insecure people in America, but we waste and throw out over 100 billion meals worth of food per year.

Consider this: Answer the question. What have you done? Do you clean your plate at every meal? Do you think we need a garbage pan patrol in America? "Woke" little commie liberals make me vomit!

Or this: there's about 16 million vacant housing units in the U.S. and we have less than 1 million homeless people.

Or this: Let's steal the housing units from their owners and give them away. News flash for our under-educated an thus ignorant American citizens. NO WHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION IS A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD, FOOD ON YOUR PLATE, OR MEDICINE FOR YOUR ILLS guaranteed!

We have way more than plenty to eliminate hunger and homelessness for all [mostly true but I thank GOD that I didn't get born in a Commie country], -but we choose not to [speak for yourself and that selfish mouse in your pocket!], which I (and many) believe is morally wrong [Well, we finally agree on something!:D]

    What do you propose?

I don't recall how long it lasted or when it started. I'll bet it is still going on but I don't know where to look to find out.

Hey Gene, It's about time for you to step up to the plate. Little Joey gave it a "swing and a miss."

    Is Joe Biden a liar?

This is a simple question with three possible answers for anyone pretending to be intelligent and informed. I'll give you some help and make it multiple choice:

QUESTION: Is Joe Biden a liar?

    ANSRWER (pick one):

    a. Yes
    b. No
    c. I don't know

 There are actually four possible answers if I include the pathetic, corrupt, American apologists or the enemies of America!

    d. I don't care.

It is the primary job of aid organizations and government assistance programs to self perpetuate and increase their scope of operation. Resolving any problems only undermines this primary purpose. Name one organization that has achieved their public stated goals and announced their closing having resolved the problems at hand. Oddly enough, it seems that the scale of the program and size of the problem just increase.

The "metrics" put out by the government are so far removed from reality, pulled from those who have the time or an incentive to respond . . . we might refer to that as a tendency bias. Those whose lives are too busy won't bother . . . those who think they can influence government in a direction that better serves their desires or will preserve something that already benefits them will participate in the surveys.

So, my distrust of the government data is born of personal observation of the consistently contrary evidence, as described below:

Typical applicant interviews for job, completes application, walks the production floor and talks to others after interviewing, then accepts job within a day or two.

First week on the job goes well.

Second week on the job he / she calls in sick one day out of five . . . perhaps more.

Third week . . . never shows up again . . . with no notice of any kind.

Next applicant . . . rinse and repeat.
I know it to be so, because firsthand experience shows me the government data is not just a little inaccurate, but completely wrong . . . consistently.

    Sure, while I'm over-simplifying,
    • Incentivize replies from those who are actually holding down jobs, and lack the time to answer.
    • Make sure those taking the survey do not feel like their answers can improve the existence of those who do not work.

What use to be called "The Protestant Work Ethic" was basically based on low self esteem. I am not worthy so therefore I must work harder to prove my value and right to be here. In the last few generations, schools and society have worked hard to eradicate guilt and instill high self esteem. Minimizing competition, where there are no winners or losers. Everyone get a gold star. This not only creates a sense of entitlement for achieving little to nothing, but also creates the inability to push through adverse situations and overcome problems. First big snag and they're out out of there.

I C. The slave class is getting a tad too uppity 4U. perhaps an increase in compensation package is in order. Or go back to the failed policy of starving and beating them into submission. You invite unrest then complain when it urinates you.

OK, we have time. please spare no detail when you articulate this agenda.

never mind that we each get a years worth every 52 weeks. age is not the only thing. quality and content matter. Like with intelligence and knowledge. compare a person that wrestled swamp gators for 40 years to someone well renowned in astrophysics for only a decade. apparently you can't afford the good stuff.

    economic slavery. it's a thing.

Sure . . . The hosts are those who disproportionately give of themselves to compensate for those who will not.

As for how we got to this point, when those who did not deserve to be elected were not elected, they decided to bribe voters with "freebies".

It works . . . and it sucks.

Our Treasury was raid with Hundreds of Billions of unaccounted money directly and money for weapons to Ukraine for a Biden manipulated manufactured war, look up the treaties he broke.
Just think what good that money could have been used for besides spilling poor Slavic blood and making the rich richer. China stronger and oh yes, the Democrat leadership and families getting some.
