Some evangelicals are marking this week as the Passion of Donald Trump Trump's prosecution is not persecution. And his getting indicted doesn't constitute a sacrifice. April 7, 2023, 3:00 AM PDT By Anthea Butler, MSNBC Columnist Holy Week has been hijacked by the spectacle of white evangelicals crying over their savior Donald Trump. The former president was charged by a Manhattan grand jury this week with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. While the indictments are related to hush money Trump allegedly paid to cover up affairs and improperly recorded as business expenses, some supporters see this as Trump’s passion play. That is, they see his prosecution as a persecution, as a punishment Democrats are inflicting on him because he was their chosen one, the messiah who gave them power. Trump’s arrest may be a first in American history, but for evangelicals who support him, it is the fulfillment of their prophecy of persecution for Trump, for whom many of them have shoved aside Jesus to praise. But this new passion play, which is centered around alleged adultery and payoffs, isn’t anything like the story of Jesus. This week’s story revolves around alleged behavior antithetical to Christian belief, behavior that has historically been anathema to evangelicals: adulterous sex — with a porn star, no less — and lying. Yet, white evangelicals are still supporting Trump. A group of Trump-aligned evangelical pastors came together on a call to pray for Trump’s victory after his arraignment, and James Dobson, the evangelical pastor who founded “Focus on the Family,” prayed that God would “restore him to influence and power.” But the support for Trump goes far past mere prayers for him. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Ga., said Tuesday, “President Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus! Jesus was arrested and murdered!” Anna Perez, the host of a show called “Wrong Think,” said in response to Trump’s Tuesday arrest, “President Trump would take a bullet for me. President Trump is taking a bullet for me. President Trump is prepared to take a bullet for all of us. What he’s is doing is Christlike. I never thought that before today ... He’s literally going to prison for us.”

The Passion of Donald Trump I rather like that. So, what is it like to be constantly accused by mobs of liars and malcontents. To be dragged before the courts, falsely accused, multiple times, yet he still maintains the course of his convictions over the shouts of a brain dead public opinion. I would say it takes a lot of passion. As for "Lock her up". There is a huge difference between a campaign slogan and calling a Grand Jury. No one ever pressed charges against Hilary, yet you impeached a President over a dossier financed by the Clinton Campaign.
Two points here: 1. There is a big difference between a campaign slogan and calling for a Grand Jury. If you call for a Grand Jury, you better have the evidence in hand. If you're demanding to have your opponent locked up during a political campaign, you ARE weaponizing the government to win an election. 2. Who was impeached over a dossier ever at any point? WTF? Seems to me Trump was not yet president when, during his campaign, he quipped about Hillary needing to be locked up. Exactly how does one weaponize the government when one has not yet been elected? Take a bow @JoeNation . . . you've outsmarted yourself yet again. Recognize the mere technicality that, without the fabricated dossiere, no FISA warrant would ever have been granted. Thank goodness! Putting the wife of a POTUS who was also a Cabinet member into prison FOR THE ACTUAL CRIMES SHE DID would have been very bad for our country. We had to wait for the demoncrats to break with history and do stupid things such as seeking impeachment with rigged documents. As soon a Trump was elected, he should have given that witch an offer she couldn't refuse. Get on Prime Time TV and confess to every crooked thing she did INCLUDING giving our Uranium industry to Russia for money. Then pardon her. Good Grief!
