I happen to believe that legacies are important. When we are gone and our remains are dust, the only meaningful part of us that remains is our legacy.

There are periods of our human history as well as our American history that we do not hold in high regard. There are other moments in our history that we are proud of…… I do truly worry about how people will regard us a hundred years from now. Long, long after anyone could care about Trump or Hillary…. A people that has the available techniques and resources to make a meaningful change to this world. Yet, we stay so mired in our trivialities and differences. Our technology has done little more than created an introverted and self centered society…. When we could do so much more with the tools at our disposal.

On this holiday, one designed take us out of ourselves and consider the plight of others…. My one wish is that we come together as a people and use the resources we have at hand to make a positive difference and leave these trivialities behind. Our great great grandkids will thank us for it.

I've always felt that legacies are simply the ego stretching past any sensible point of reality. History on the other hand, is written by the winners. Around the world, we see authoritarians in China, Russia, Turkey, the Philippians, and many other corrupt dictatorships having a day right now. January 6th was nearly the authoritarian wet dream of the century in this country. In 100 years, our descendants may look back at this period in history and say that we allowed democracy to die in this country because we did not do enough to combat the tyranny within our own ranks. We may be the generation that ushered into power those men that would rule not through democratic processes and institutions, but by destroying all of the checks and balances a democracy needs to flourish.

It is nearly the one-year anniversary of the January 6th insurrection and what has been resolved in the past year? Republicans continue to minimize the riot, deny they were responsible, protect Trump, refuse to investigate, trivialize, lie, ignore their own eyes, defend the insurrectionists, run them for public office, and pass law after law to diminish voting rights across the country in red state after red state. They are full steam ahead for another insurrection and hoping for a different result this time around.

So, this year, I am not pondering the future with much optimism but wondering if this country has a future. All because we as a country could not stand up to an egomaniac with delusions of grandeur and a throng of misguided morons at his back that still support him and his authoritarian dreams.

Another hit and run response from JN . . .

No recognition is necessary for a legacy to be left behind, and I don't think MD had in mind what people would remember him for as an individual, as much as how we may sway those within our sphere to better ends, whether they realize it or not.

A fine contradiction you place before us this Christmas Eve. After all, none of the cited authoritarians were nearly so aggressive in their exploits before Biden's inauguration as after he so convincingly demonstrated his incompetence and his impotence in the international arena.

I believe something entirely different. That In 100 years, our descendants may look back at this period in history and say that we allowed democracy to die in this country because we did not do enough to combat the disproportionate influence of the mass media, of disparate special interests, and of systematic educational indoctrination. As far as I can tell, the men and women and the checks and balances are all in place, and the only thing standing in the way of true majority rule are special interests banded together to form a single political party which would be little more than a bunch of much less influential groups if not colluding together.

    I don't see what you think you see . . .

    • I don't see rank and file Republicans defending the morons who broke the law on 1/06.
    • I see no evidence that Trump or other Republican politicians instigated those morons.
    • I don't see those morons running for public office (I may have missed something here)
    • I see no reduction in voting rights. Voting is a right . . . cheating is not, and convenience is not.

Yeah . . . it's no secret that I don't care for Trump, but behind perhaps a half dozen other Republicans he was my choice over everything you liberals put on stage, except perhaps for John Delaney . . . one of the first liberal candidates you idiots kicked off the stage. He was by no means my favorite, but he was at least worth considering.

Sadly there are indeed some morons among those who support Trump, just as there are some morons who will support every candidate the liberals will field. Republicans are not the enemy of the American People, and independents are rapidly figuring that out.

What happened to your FDQ Exit from the boards? You were never ever never coming back and took your football and Tonka Toy and went home. BUT (there is always a 'but') as usual, ALL l Forum Drama Queens can't keep their word and just have to come back and be a Clown and instigator.

What the hell do you care what happens anyway? You are an avowed Atheist and based on your past posts and most definitely the post above, you still religiously practice the Ideology of Division.

Are you familiar with the Soviet Term "Die on Christmas"? I am sure you are, since you are an avowed Marxist Socialist. Accordingly, you know it was used to belittle the Sub Rosa Cardinals of the Soviet Union, in the hope of having their identity revealed, so they could be captured and tortured and murdered.

Have you considered acting out the described belittlement, in your periods of despair?

I will send you a Christmas Present, if you will PERMANENTLY FDQ again, and take your Offspring with you, since you are both Bigots and absent any redeeming human quality of compassion. It will be the Act of Contrition, lasered on a Gold Tablet.

My goodness, you are a hateful and full of hate individual.

The only talent you and your Offspring have is Trumpterbation.

I read Joe’s post just before I walked in for a Christmas Eve service at my church. I play the music at my church and at the end, when the lights went out, the candles were lit and 180 people were singing Silent Night with soul moving gusto…. I prayed for Joe….. I have always believed he was a good man. One fully consumed in the damning message of the day. A message that I am afraid that there may be no escape from for so many….. The ability to think outside oneself is the true definition of humility…. And humility is the window to a man’s soul….. Not a very popular or discussed topic in this age of self centeredism…… Yes, Joe I did pray for you at a moment that my heart was stirred. I am a conservative and I am not yours or anyone else’s enemy. And I do wish you a Merry Christmas.

History might not be too kind when documenting the 2020-2021 period (and potentially beyond). Hopefully things improve and history will document how the errors were overcome as the people came together based on the tested principles of liberty.

The way we will be perceived in 50 to 100 years depends if we continue to let the left control educational institutions and write/rewrite history. JN says only the victors write history and sites totalitarian regimes as examples. If this narrative was universally true, how would anyone know that the history coming from these regimes is false? The leftist like Joe want to indoctrinate mush brained Yn’s through the educational system and want to have opposing speech suppressed. Not all speech mind you, just speech that they disagree with and doesn’t further their narrative. We can see this in their efforts to have some speech labeled as hate and their adamant support of social medias censorship of what they deem as misinformation. Unfortunately history is being falsely recorded daily in the media. We can see this in all media outlets in some form or fashion but it’s really prominent in the leftist media. You know, “hands up don’t shoot”, reports on Nick Sandman, Kyle Rittenhouse, and Russian collusion, just to provide a few examples. All of this has been proven false yet there are still no corrections or retractions of any consequence. If the left has their way, these reports will become fact and the truth will be wiped from history. Michelle Obama eloquently expressed the lefts ambitions in 2008:

“Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we're going to have to change our traditions, our history; we're going to have to move into a different place.”

Hmmm, telling isn’t? Has anyone else seen the conversation being changed? How about traditions? How about history? Let me know just exactly how well you like the place you have been moved too and the one you are facing?
