So why do you kep stating how good and generous Christians are when they donate? Surely they have done nothing commendable either. Is that so? And who do you think the "general public" is anyway? Most studies show between 80 and 90% of America are religious to some degree. Add to that the average Athiest truly hates anything to do with religion (as your own attacks here clearly proves) so I would find it difficult to believe anyone would give money to things (like a begging bowl) they hate because that would promote the religious group, two and two together tells me that it is very unlikely that any of the donations from the "general public" are from athiests. Charity of the kind we are discussing is, how many hindu or budda orphanages can you name around the world? How many atheist run orphanages can you name? Web said it, was he wrong? Covered above, the "general public" is mostly religious, the athiests hate anything to do with religion and are trying to abolish religion anywhere they can, why would they then help finance religion? You said it yourself, you called them "begging bowls", that is clear contempt for the collection, why would anyone give to something they have such contempt for? That does not compute, lol. You keep talking about what is real or fact but you offer nothing to support your claims about the average athiest helping others. Sure, I can admit that there is always an exception to every rule, and I am sure there are a few athiests that do not attack religion the way you do, but what I am speaking on is the "average" example of our two groups. On average, religious people tend to care about other people, we give to our community while I have never heard of a single athiest helping anyone in my community. In fact, while I offer my own experiences, you guys don't have any examples to offer of your own. Instead of putting so much effort into lashing out against religion, why not join forces with us and attack some real problems in the world, and even in our own back yards. I deliver hot meals every other week because I feel the personal touch to brighten a person's day is very fullfilling. Hands on care and concern for the community, you should give it a try. You are the rare exception. While not religious myself I am glad most people are, because the average atheist has traded worship of god for worship of the state.
I don't believe in the Christian God, but I would never tell anyone that they were wrong to do so. Each man is entitled to his own reality.
I don't know any truly kind, generous, and helpful people who call themselves Christians. I wish I did, but I don't. I do know many truly kind, generous and helpful Atheists, though. I suppose it just depends on who you know. I guess someone on this forum doesn't know (or even know of) any nice Atheists, which is a shame for them.
My dad was a cub scout leader. He brought many new idea's to the troop. Then when I moved into scouts he became a scout leader. The kids loved him. At home when I was a kid I would sneak away so I didn't have to do yard work but the kids in my neighborhood loved him so much they would help him just to hang around. After his second retirement Air Force then The Post Office he helped babysit my son for us. As my son grew up he volunteered at his elementary school. He went all the way through until my son moved on to middle school. He's still volunteering at the elementry school. My dad has stood beside me through my whole life, thick and thin. I would get into trouble and he would blame himself. He dosn't believe in god. But if he's in a place where a prayer is held he will bow his head out of respect. You can't find a better person anywhere.
My family never went to church. My grandma didn't believe in sending children to church til they were old enough to decide for themselves.. I'm one of the unbaptized minority. If I ever am, it'll be my choice.. and I don't plan on it... I guess I'll go to hell if someone in a robe doesn't pour water on my head and I swear my allegience to his/her congregation. Woe is me...
Oh yeah.. Last year that school had a Mr Brown day. All the kids came to school wearing brown in honor of him. He was so overwhelmed.
