Yeah, I'll dig out some of our best recipes when I get home from the office and PM them to you. Our pal Ben has a mac-n-cheese one that'll blow yr. mind! I think it calls for a whole stick of Earth Balance butter, ha. We just throw some veggies in there to make it a LITTLE healthier. :smile As for graphic novels, I think I've only ever read a few in the 'Dollhouse' series. At least I think the one book I remember reading was called 'The Dollhouse', and it was def. part of a 10 book-or-so series. Anyone know what I'm talking about? It's an older graphic novel, BTW, not recent.
Danr, I'd recommend the Cult Classic Euell Gibbons work - Stalking the Wild Asparagus. It looks to be readily available in various conditions. http://www.amazon.com/Stalking-Wild-Asparagus-Euell-Gibbons/dp/0911469036
Glad to hear that Jhonn, at least we know you won't be running off and hiding in the 'ignore' section of this forum, like some people around here do. You should do just fine. Enjoy!:thumb:
Welcome to the melee, we probably won't agree on much, what with me being a meat eating, military serving barbarian, but I do respect your choice in life. We do have one thing in common however, it is nice to meet a linguistics specialist now and again. I am a military linguist and hold a BS in Chinese.
I had a friend that was a Chinese linguist for the Air Force. He was in guam and picked up the radio signal that the Tiananmen Square crackdown was about to occur or some such information and they gave him an award/medal/commendation or some such recognition. He never really told me exactly what he heard because he said that he'd have to kill me. He didn't smile after he said it either.
Ha, yes, we probably won't agree much at all...but on the topic of linguistics, I do feel that plenty of strife in the world occurs due to language/linguistic barriers. For example, I can think of several Eastern European/Slavic ethnic groups that, for all intensive purposes, speak the exact same language, but differ only in dialect and script (Cyrillic or Roman), and this factors into the myriad of reasons why these groups absolutely hate each other. Pretty dumb if you ask me. I'm guessing you focus on Mandarin? For a miltary linguist, I can't imagine any other Chinese language is worth knowing, except maybe Cantonese. I happened to work one-on-one with a native Shanghainese speaker as part of a syntax project not too long ago, but I don't know much else about those languages other than the fact that they are f'ing complicated.
Yup, mandarin is my speciality as it is the "official" language of all government comms. They are complicated, I wanted to poke out my ear drums about the 6th month of an 18 month course and it just went downhill from there.
Aiya! You made it through six months before wanting do damage to your eardrums? I think it was after three for me. Actually, I enjoyed learning Mandarin, I wish I would've kept up wth it more. After one tour I switched over to the dark side and went back for Russian. Couldn't get in to German like I wanted (even after having 7 years of it in HS and College), go figure.
