Perhaps because, during his 2003-to-2007 tenure, Romney failed to impress much of anyone. The only 3 states that had a lower job growth rate were the three states ravaged by Katrina. He didn’t even bother running for a second term because he would have lost by double digits. The one-termer wants to be president now. Weak! "His favorability was basically a straight line down from his honeymoon," said David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University's Political Research Center and a longtime Massachusetts pollster. "Sometimes familiarity breeds contempt." [...] Romney entered the Massachusetts State House in January 2003 with a flashy favorability rating of 61 percent.... By November 2004, voters were souring, and a Suffolk poll found his favorable rating had dropped to 47 percent... By November 2006, as he closed out his increasingly absentee term, his overall job approval rating had cratered to 36 percent.
And here I thought he avoided talking about it because he was a tax raising, civil union supporting, pro choice, universal healthcare loving liberal at the time.
I think this copy and paste picture would represent what the majority of Americans think of our current political set of choices. This election will need the hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising just to get out a decent turnout.
He has lots of reasons to forget his only stint in public service. The better you get to know the guy, the less you like him....if that is even possible.
This isn't really related to the thread in any substantial way, but here in Michigan our government is completely controlled by republicans, and the following is an example of the ideas they've come up with to increase State revenue. A fella I know, an elderly man, received his refund from the State, but it wasn't what the tax preparers had concluded he'd get. The State explained that since almost all of his income went to pay the rent, he must be lying to them...so they refused to give him the part of his refund due for the heating credit. The fight to get that is expected to take the rest of the year. For a man who's only income is Social Security...at a rate below the poverty level...this is quite an issue. Mind you, the return was professionally done, and the State has been reluctant to pay anyone the heating credit. They went further and gave him a bill for $165 they say he owes in use tax. How did they calculate it? They said it was an estimate...with absolutely no actual data to back it up. The man hasn't bought or sold anything, they just threw a random number at him and expect him to pay it. Again, fighting this is expected to take the rest of the year. So, there you go. Stealing pennies from the elderly poor...as expected from this group of republicans. Sorry if this doesn't exactly jive with the rest of the thread, but I just had to point out what's happening here in Michigan...and I didn't feel like creating another thread lol
I guess you could say it relates to what the republican national plan would be if they too had complete control. It's very likely they would reduce or eliminate funding for social/welfare-like programs (the heating credit, as an example of how). Romney would be all over that, like Oprah on a cream-filled chocolate-frosted donut.
Once the Republi-CONS took power in Michigan, the first thing they did was suspend democracy. I guess it was inconvenient.
Detroit is apparently on their radar as a possible target too. Part of the republican agenda here is to take over townships, towns, cities, etc. that are financially unstable. They can legally dismiss elected officials and install their own people. In a way, I hope they do take Detroit, if only so the nation would pay more attention to what the hell they're doing here.
