Well Midas, your thread had plummeted straight to the bottom of the barrel of human hatred, bigotry, and intolerance in record CoinTalk time. Taking into consideration the tone you set at its inception, this isn’t surprising to anyone I’m sure. You seem to like to go down this road quite a bit for some personal reason of your own.
I’d be willing to bet that most of us here know the terrible things throughout history Muslims have done in the name of Islam without you listing them repeatedly. Each instance of Muslim brutality and cruelness throughout history could certainly be countered with an equally brutal and cruel example from the Christian’s historical record. None of that justifies the events going on in the world today and can not begin to excuse the crimes of a select group of Muslims that are determined to repeat the stupidity of past religiously motivated conflicts. Religion has been the catalyst for more conflicts throughout human history as well as the greatest path to human enlightenment and spirituality. This is a paradox that the people of this world seem to be quite comfortable with by this point.
If history is any kind of guide, this chain of events will pass into history and certainly be repeated at sometime in the future to be sure. We are just human beings after all and we make many of the same mistakes that our ancestors have made countless times before us. I believe that all we can do as individuals is to not get caught up in the moment with the insignificant details but to look instead to the greater good that is of real importance. Simple tenants common to humanity like tolerance, equality and understanding to name a few. It is only by focusing on our differences that we are all pulled down to our base emotional responses that we as human beings have struggled to rise above since the very beginning of human higher consciousness. Why move backwards in the face of adversity when the opportunity to move forwards is always within reach? Just something for you in particular to think about Midas.

 

I'm quoting someone else here but; If Christ came back to earth today, he sure wouldn't be a Christian. So I guess your point is well taken Craigy.

 

The atrocities and crimes you pointed out that were supposedly committed by Christians, is a very weak argument. The Bible doesn't tell Christians to kill infidels, the Koran does tell muslims to kill infidels. BIG difference!!!

 

No the bible reserves killing for gays and neighbors that behave in a non-Christian manner. Koran, Bible, it's all the same crap. You can interpret the writings to fit any purpose or persecute any group you choose.

Craig how on earth do you come to the conclusion that I am not a Christian simply by me saying I find the persecution and Genocide of a group of people offensive? Because that is what is implied if someone wants to have all Homosexuals stoned to death.

Meon...a very well articulated response (as usual) and I must say, your command of the English language is well versed. You stated you were (or are) a professor. I just wonder...is it literature? Seriously, I always told my kids how important English is because people will judge you by the words you use. OK...enough of the english composition compliments. Let's get down to business.

You and I seem to have a deep interest in history and we both fall back on it when we make our points. After all, if you can't learn from the past, how can you go forward? The fact is the recent actions of muslim radicals are in fact RECENT and PRESENT. Sure we could go back to the Crusades and list all of the Christian crimes as they made their way to the "holy land", but what I am referring to is NOW. Sure, go ahead and make an argument about one or two lines in the bible. I listed well over a 100 passages from the Koran (or however you spell this book) where millions of TODAY's mulsims follow with true devotion. Pretty scary if you think about it.

I explained before that my first introduction to islam came during the 72 Olympic games. Jim McCay reports, "They are all gone" and for the life of me, I could not understand their actions. Over the years, the common denominator wilh all of the terrorist attacks, hijackings, and suicide bombings were that they were perpetrated by muslims.

Then you start to think..."don't these people have a clue?"

What happens? More bombings, more kidnappings, more death all in the name of their allah.

So then a person like me looks deeper into the cause and reads from their holy book. What happens? Your eyes raise to your hair line as you read passage after passage pertaining to death, taxes or conversion of infidels. Meanwhile, a whole new generation of male mulsims are "bobbing and weaving" toward Mecca. More scary stuff!!

In the meantime, you throw in more killings, including an associate of mind during the FIRST attack of the WTC in the early 90's, and you think, "These people are out of their mind...they only understand one thing...DEATH!!"

So we can go back into history and bring up what some knight did a 1,000 years ago. But, if we can look at the behavior of the muslim religion of the last 30 years, you have to admit, Christians and Jews do NOT behave like their ancestors a 1,000 years earlier. Can you say the same for devoted muslims?

Nice PRESENT day muslim country, wouldn't you say? What has the mulsim world contributed to this world in the last 100 years? Death, bombings, hijackings, kidnappings, all seem to be the order for these people. Am I wrong? Please enlighten me... Don't give me that it is only a few radicals behaving this way. There are MILIIONS of these people that support these animals, harbor them and protect them! They are just as guilty as the idiot that lights the fuse...IMO.

Any writings of a religous nature usually get co-opted by some nut or group of nuts to justify their insane actions at some point in history. It doesn't mean you throw out the entire religion and all the good teachings that go along with it. I think that the Muslims that are using Islam for this evil will pay the ultimate price and I believe it will be at the hands of other Muslims ta-boot. I can't know this of course but it seems like a reasonable scenerio.

I understand why you'd be angry after losing a friend to the insanity. It's a natural reaction much like my reaction to the plight of New Orleans after my nephew was assaulted by their corrupt police force for absolutely no reason. But I believe the actions of a few shouldn't condem the entire group. Look how many Muslim organizations around the world have condemed the kidnapping of Jill Caroll. When you make the mistake of generalizing from the few to the many, you lose sight of both the real problem and the eventual solution.

They are definitely a backwards tribal society being pulled into the 21st century and are experiencing some growing pains that are both self-inflicted and foreign born. Again, none of this justifies or excuses the behavior of some pretty sick twisted individuals but neither does it condem the entire Muslim world that stretches well beyond the Middle East.

Hey all, I've been away for a while, and that's why I haven't been responding to these posts as I normally would. Once again, I can't believe the levels of insanity and ignorance that many of these comments imply. But as you all know, it's useless to try to change peoples' minds, especially over the internet, and so I will simply say this:

I am a conservative Republican. That political philosophy, as I have mentioned before, is based on Locke's theory that people are rational and can make the choices that keep them alive. This results in smaller government as decisions are rounded down to the states, and less of the "small stuff" decisions are made by the federal government. Nowhere in this political philosophy does it mention a necessity to be Christian, Muslim, Atheist, or whatever else. That's one fault I find with some of these comments.

Secondly, I am what would be considered an Episcopal by religious standards. This is a branch of Christianity, and the faith itself does not condone homosexuality. However, I personally find no fault with homosexuals, and I feel that that issue is not something that should be legislated at. There is no reason to execute this group of people, who are simply trying to live their lives as you or I am.

Thirdly, as many of you know, I have nothing wrong with Muslims, and I don't believe that the religion is a bunch of murderous cutthroats. I feel that it is ignorant of people to characterize the entire group of people who identify with Islam as such.

I know I'm going to get torched on here and insulted for making such provocative statements, but I think it's at least important for everyone on here to realize that not everyone on here has the some problems as they do with certain groups and ideologies, and if I may make a suggestion, I would hope that members can start to use a little more tact in discussions such as this, to preserve the spirit of debate and not have this degrade into a name-calling contest.

The Religion Of Peace? This statement has weighed heavily on my mind since I read it.
I've been seeing this Religion Of Peace counter on many of the blogs in my "circuit", but I'd never gotten around to actually clicking through for the rest of the story (so many sites, so little time). Today I did click through and was greeted by detailed lists of every murder, atrocity and bombing carried out in the name of Islam since September 11th, 2001. You hear about these attacks so often that they blur together into a kind of background noise within the news coverage, but when you see the full list of attacks you realize how truly terrible the situation is. The sites author sums up his purpose on his about page:

Ever since 9/11, Americans and others have been asking, "Who are Muslims and why do they want to kill me?" Western leaders have responded by insisting that Islam is a religion of peace. This is a line that is parroted from some Islamic clerics (presumably the ones who aren't calling for Jihad). But what does this mean?

Peace can have two different meanings. Westerners usually think of peace as being free to live one's life as one pleases, and allowing others the freedom to do the same. But peace is also a condition that can be brought about through subjugation, in which unbelievers are brought under the domination of Islam to live meekly as dhimmis. Regrettably, this is the sort of peace that the Qur'an and Hadiths (the Islamic traditions) teach.

This website provides a list of attacks committed by determined Muslims in the name of their faith. They stand in sharp contrast to American groups like CAIR and MPAC, which use their influence to complain of petty grievances and inflame hatred against a country that tries hard to accommodate their faith in spite of the violence.

On the other hand, however, Islam is clearly not a religion of peace. The ridiculous level of violence committed in the name of this religion is staggering, despite the many billions of dollars that are spent each year to prevent attacks.

Nor should Westerners continue to think that the solution to the violence is greater understanding and tolerance for Islam, as Muslim apologists often imply when commenting on high-profile terror attacks. It is the killers and their supporters who need to learn understanding and tolerance, not their victims.

Islam will be a peaceful religion when Muslims stop preaching hate, stop killing in the name of Allah, and stop remaining apathetic to the violence. Until this happens, we will faithfully document each of the reasons why this is anything but a "Religion of Peace."

This is what I been trying to tell our muslim friends all along! Let me put it this way...I will not live my life subjugated to your hateful religion. I will fight you with all of my might. Unfortunately, there are many infidels in this forum that would rather stic their head in the sand and believe this 'religion of peace' will leave us alone...like that is going to happen.

Are you refering to the methods of killing, or the act of homosexuality? I would agree that both are forms of insanity and ignorance.

As this thread is intitled "The religion of peace.. " I would have thought that talking about religion would have been expected. Now if you care to talk about 'political philosophy' you shoud start your own thread, or at the very least allow topics to be talked about without making remarks like "insanity and ignorance", referance.

O.K. so your one of the few who see nothing wrong with making a homosexual into one of your Bishops! Well, a lot of good Episcopalians do and have said as much, by breaking away from the unit that allowed this to happen. Their general assembly will be coming up shortley and it is believed that things may change for the bettter and maybe some of the other countries who also broke ties with the church in this country will be repaired. Let's hope so, I don't relish the idea of finding another church at this stage of life.

You have a right to your oppinion, just as someone else has a right to theres. Is this any reason to characterize the other person(s) as 'ignorant'? I don't think so.

By this I guess you mean such words as insanity, and ignorance of someone, murderous cutthroats, ignorant people. Yah, your right it does take away from the thrust of the message doesn't it? Not to get into a huge thing but these attitudes toward other people based on race and religion have never lead to a good situation. It is disturbing that so much prejudice is emerging not just in this forum but in the country as a whole.
