2008 Presidential Winner Forecasts

I just wanted a thread that we can all go back to and see how wrong some are when it comes to the State of the Nation when it comes time to vote for our next President. For now my pick is Newt Gingrich, but may change if Sen. T. Tancredo jumps in.

I'm not going to make a pick yet. FAR too many intagibles. The 2006 election outcome, the price of gas, the Mid-East, North Korea, Taiwan, inflation (hopefully a non-issue, but ...), what politicians have been caught being bought by whom, etc. That, and the American electorate, however hard I may defend the right of each person in it to vote, has never proven itself particularly capable of thinking in the big picture.

 

Sorry people, you Americans have only two options

Hillary Clintion(most famous for stand by her cheating man)
Condoleeza Rice(Can someone teach to smile?)

 

I actually met Condi once while she was a Provost at Stanford. She will only smile if you surgically remove the stick from her behind. :whistle:

 

Condi = smart lady but no backbone
Hillary= smart lady lacks consistancy. Hillary will be better though because of her deep understanding of the healthcare issue.

Don't be surprised if neither of these ladys make it through the primany

 

The Arizona Democratic State Committee is trying to get X vice president Al Gore to run again, this time for President. They only have one hurdle to over come and that is to convince Al that he can make more money as president than he has in his Invention Laboritories. Read article for more information:

Speaking on behalf of the citizens of Arizona, if Al-f'ing-Gore becomes President, we're seceeding back to Mexico voluntarily.

 

Look for al gore and clinton to be the front runners come DNC time. For repbulicans its a bit more dicey as we know mccain will be out there as possibly giuliani, frist, tancredo, perry, and a frew others. I know this I'd sooner vote for a fictional character than for clinton or gore

 

Newt is still looking strong. McCain won't get it he is a RINO IMO. Tancredo could be a great bet too.

 

I noticed that OldDan is from Wyoming. Why is it that he is giving what they would say in Arizona? Does he know something that we don't?

All kidding aside, I kind of like Al Gore and some of his ideas.

 

At least he invented internet, he cannot be all bad

 

You can have Tony Blair if you want he is stepping down from power over here, i might not like the guy or his politics but the way his party are treating him is a bloody disgrace.

Unfortunately USA not have any real prospects for good leader in 2008. I think you might as well vote for Homer Simpson - Doh!

 

There is some truth to that. But it frequently looks that way this long before an election. Usually, a bunch of governors end up running in addition to the Washington insiders. Many governors end up making decent presidents because they already have the executive experience. Senators and congressmen just don't get the same experience running things and dealing with legislatures on contentious issues. So the governors are sort of our presidential farm team. The USA also has a built in hidden advantage. Our form of government doesn't really require a great president. If a president is weak, Congress usually fills the gap. If the president grabs for too much power, the other branches will frequently oppose him. The secret of America is that the nation pretty much runs on its own, and probably doesn't even need a president 99% of the time.

I used to live in Kentucky, where the legislature used to meet for 60 days every two years. The joke we told at the time was that if it met 2 days every 60 years, everything would be just fine.

 

Except when you have your rubber stamp congress of the same party. Not work in either political party when control three parts of your government. You have rightists in control of executive, legislative and judicial parts of your government. Current situation in USA is not well, viewed from afar, you should not be telling rest of world what and how to do, when can't even get your government correct. If the leftist controlled it would be similar. So you need real multi party control of government and that is not case.
