I am not a tech guy so I hope that I attached this correctly...... This was a television commercial that played during football games yesterday. The part that astonishes me is at about ten seconds into the ad. A dapper looking gentleman states, "I was sentenced to die in prison for a $28.00 robbery"...... Now I am a law abiding fellow and have a difficult time wrapping my head around this statement. The obvious implication is that he is a black man whose sentence was based upon his race and not based on his crime. And here we are as the viewing consumers hollering at the television, "RACIAL BIAS! RACIAL BIAS!"..... Well, no.... What is the other side of this story? Did the man use a deadly weapon while committing his crime? Was an innocent victim harmed when his committed his crime?.... No, this is not unfair bias we are witnessing, though it is being heavily thrust upon us in this TV ad. This is pure and simple propaganda. We have a justice system for a reason. Let's have the other side of this story before we buy into this propaganda please. And if you do not wish to find yourself in prison... Don't commit the crime in the first place! No, I do not buy into the pablum being presented here. People do not have to commit crime to survive. This nation has far too many safety nets in place for that..... Plain and simple, this is propaganda. Nothing more.

Your Pollyanna belief in the justice system in this country stems from your experiences as a white man not as a black man experiencing that justice system. Plain and simple, you have never walked an inch in a black person's shoes but that never stops you from judging them by your own biases. In other words, your opinions are about as based in reality as me deciding weather abortion is necessary when I know that I will never know what it is like to ever have to make that decision. I sometimes feel like there are just those people that should take their naive opinions and go sit in the corner and shut the hell up instead of adding fuel to the ignorance fire. Wait until your daughter comes home with one of those black men you have been judging a these years. You have a reckoning coming and it will not be a pleasant one. I have always respected your choice to adopt a child that clearly needed a helping hand. I just wonder if you're up to the task you've taken on. She isn't the only one that has to grow. You have to grow at the same time.

Good to hear from you.... Genuinely, I would have the very same view of this ad had it been a white man stating the claim. Lawlessness is lawlessness and I'll remind you that your side hasn't fared very well by siding with the lawless part of our society...... You don't find it somewhat biased that only one side of this story is offered?

    What a crock @JoeNation !

Telling MD, "Wait until your daughter comes home with one of those black men you have been judging a(ll) these years. " You have some nerve! He clearly doesn't have a bone to pick with blacks in general, and hasn't been judging black men any more than he judges white men with similar inclinations.

I don't care whether the lawbreaker is a black or a white, a man or woman, they all should be sentenced to, and pay the same penance for their crimes. Make what excuses you want for those you curry political favor with, but they are no less culpable than anyone else, just because their skin is darker than, or because they are fairer than liberal-labeled angry white males.

If your claim is that black men are mistreated compared with white men, I don't buy it. Maybe the liberal media catch it more often on camera, but that's because they're hunting for those opportunities. Doubtless, there are plenty of white men dragged out of their cars, beaten, framed, and shot and killed by bad cops, but those stories don't make nearly the same waves as the appearance of racism does. And what of black on black and black on white violence? Despite its prevalence, we rarely hear much about it from the media.

It's true that there are some underprivileged who may be more tempted, and more prone to break the law, but that distinction also has little to do with skin color. There are plenty of whites that get the same punishment for the very same crimes as blacks do, and I'd be surprised if the percentages are vastly different. If there is a greater difference in repeat offenses by blacks and whites, and greater subsequent punishments, maybe there's a little more to unpack in this discussion.

Most importantly, knowing better has absolutely nothing to do with skin color.

The current version of bail reform sweeping the nation's major cities has no place in a society where a disincentive to crime is the agreed upon solution. If you're for the expansion of criminal activity on the other hand, well that's different!

Thanks TC…. One thing that I have come to realize on this forum….. When the left is on the losing side of an argument, they immediately resort to personal attacks… Low blows if we were in a boxing ring. I take it as something of a compliment really….. I don’t care what color fellow my girl chooses to date….. As long as she doesn’t date a criminal. And I believe she has better sense than that. I have never defined a human being based on their skin color. Apparently our liberal friends do.

Only in the modern American age of tolerance could a dark-skinned person be told he or she is not really black because he or she is conservative.

Here’s the Paul Harvey version. Motis Wright, the gentleman that was convicted of a $28 dollar robbery in the commercial, was actually convicted of 1st degree robbery. Robbery 1 in Alabama is robbery with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to life under the Habitual Felony Offender Act, this means this was not his first offense. This was a mandatory sentence at the time. So yes, this is divisive and dishonest propaganda. It’s not surprising to see @JoeNation show up and display his leftist agenda. White privilege is the new phrase to replace racist. Racist just doesn’t have the same power as it used too. WP is new and does well in the focus groups for the targeted demos (ignorant and young libs). To make sure it’s a success… well, that’s where CRT comes in. MD, I find it despicable that JN tried to politicize your adoption of a wonderful child. God bless little children while they’re still too young to hate. Of course, if leftist get their way, indoctrination will start in preschool.

That was some fine detective work, @Profiler. A habitual felon convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon…. And he is the victim here…. Too bad we can’t get a counterpoint from the person who had a handgun pointed at them. Only in 21st century America can a habitual felon be a victim. I miss common sense.

Considering your continuous Ideology of Division, I am not surprised you would be against aborting the weather, since it would unite the entire world concerning the subject of Global Warming/Climate Change.

The problem is, aborting the weather can only be accomplished by God. Doing so, would abort all Life. the Marxist Ideology Of Division would poof, too.

Now, if only we could present a convincing Plato/Pliny philosophical position to God, to have weather abortion eliminate only the Marxist Ideology of Division practitioners of your ilk, The World would celebrate in Union.

Will you pray with me, that such a Plea is acceptable to God, for immediate implementation? You personally would finally be sacrificing yourself for a worthy cause.

@Profiler one of the articles I read also mentioned that this guy did some good things while in prison, including bringing the Long Distance Dads prison program to the state of Alabama. It seems like being in jail actually helped teach/reform him. Would the same have happened if there was no accountability for crime (which the leftists are pushing nowadays)?

No doubt… People can and do change. My very first take when I saw this fellow on screen was that he was likely a successful man. Until I heard what he said. As @Profiler dug up, the man is a habitual felon and chose to use a deadly weapon to rob a small sum of cash. The fellow could have made something of his life. Rather, he chose a life of crime and he received his just rewards. I know if I point a deadly weapon at another person, my result will likely be incarceration… So I choose not to do that…. I honestly hope the man has made a positive change in his life and truly hope that he doesn’t dedicate his life to playing the race card for his poor life choices……

@JoeNation ….. I have right to pass judgment on a criminal every bit as much you use your soapbox to find me a guilty of the crime of being born white. A white man with a long history of reaching a helping hand to those less fortunate than myself. I don’t give lip service to helping. I roll up my sleeves and get involved. And you can rest assured, my girl is in perfectly fine hands and shows every indication that she will grow up to be a productive member of society and not one that will blame others for her mistakes.

@ddddd, the left’s no bail and defund the police movement has delivered the results that anyone with common sense would have expected. Mr Wright has done some good things while in prison. Hopefully he will continue. As for the question if he would have corrected course without incarceration, the answer is likely not. The reality is those that are not held accountable (not caught, or just let off if they are) will likely become emboldened and will become increasingly violent. Unfortunately, many that have been incarcerated still return to their old habits.
@Mopar Dude I truly hope Mr Wight is on the right path. One thing that gives me pause is that he participated in this dishonest ad. I would have had way more respect for him if he would have admitted to his crimes and took responsibility instead of saying he was incarcerated for life for a $ 28.00 crime. This gives me the impression that he will claim to be a victim. Of course @JoeNation will agree with him then lecture all the PWGs (pasty white guys) about their ignorance, racism, and white privilege. Ironically, he will totally ignore the fact he is just a PWG.
We can debate the laws that gave Mr Wright the life sentence if anyone wants.
