I really don't have an issue with Mexicans coming to the USA and working. They take jobs nobody else will, and act a hell of a lot more like Americans used to act. IE they work, they take care of their families, they pay their taxes and they love this country.

All I would suggest, and perhaps it should be a law, a 1 for 1 rule, we take one of theirs, we send a newly formered American that hasn't worked to their new reality.

Danr, there are a few problems with letting everyone into the country.
One of them is that there is not enough space, Unless you want to live with two or three billion people.

I heard recently that you could fit everyone in the world in Texas and we would each get one acre. As for the new arrivals from mexico they are good neighbors. Here are some generalizations:
    -family oriented.
    -religious (usually Catholic).
    -hardworking.
    -keep house and yard nice.
-VERY interested in a good education for their kids.
My only problem is that Mexico is tollerant of drunk drivers and that seeps across the border.

Hey, there are alot of good Mexicans and I praise those who have "chosen" to come to Collier Country but do not forget the Mexican subculture that seems to be big in LA and other southwest cities and caters to the criminal element.

As far as the land and population thing. I think that people who believe that this country is so big that we could fit everybody in it should look at China and the population problems that they have. China is just about the same size as the US by the way.

Like most of the "fact" that you spout, this one is totally absurd!

Old dan I know I heard it somewhere. I will try to find a link (6 billion acres in Texas may be right though).
As for Andy's comment I live in the Phx area (not the rich side of town BTW), and I don't see that Mexican gang thing here as a problem. Here the problem is with the biker gangs that do meth (mostly white). I am sure LA is different though.

Here's my view on the subject: I have no problem with immigration to our country. I have a problem with immigration that is illegal according to the current laws set forth. I live in Arizona, which is the #1 state for illegal immigration problems. Here's a couple other #1's that we have: #1 for drug trafficking (marijuana, cocaine, etc.), #1 for methamphetamine trafficking, #1 for property crimes. Add to that #6 for murders and #17 for violent crimes in general, and we're talking about a pretty serious situation. Every time I turn on the news out here someone is dying, someone is being robbed, two people have been kidnapped, three to six murdered, and a meth lab is busted.

The situation here can be greatly curbed by stopping illegal immigration. It's a proven track record that illegal immigrants commit most of the property crimes in Arizona, especially in Southern Arizona towns and cities and in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Coyotes (the term for an immigrant smuggler) are not only smuggling humans into the state, but drugs as well, especially cocaine and methamphetamines. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of all our meth in the state comes from Coyote smugglers. Many illegal immigrants resort to theft and robbery when they can't get a job, and in the process of committing some of these crimes, people get hurt/shot/stabbed/murdered/etc.

It's not a problem for me to have immigrants come to America, and I commend those that do so legally, because it is a long and tedious process that takes time, and I'd be in favor of cutting the bureaucracy that makes it so stagnant, but it's not at all okay for people to break the law when they have other options to get here to make a better life. That's why illegal immigration should be cracked down upon much more vigorously. Illegals that are found out during routine traffic stops, for example, are often sent back on their way, because it takes too much time and resource to process them in Phoenix. I think we need to crack down on that, get INS in here to process them quickly, and start getting rid of people who should not be here under our laws. The laws were made for a reason.

As for jobs, I would much more like to give jobs to people who have worked their asses off to get here legally than to someone who paid a guy off to run him across the border, or who staggered over and missed getting caught at it. That's not the way to prove to ME at least, that they should have the jobs. Legal American citizens and legal immigrants need the jobs right now, and if we give them to illegals, all we are doing is keeping the unemployment rates in the country up and hurting families here already legally.

Sorry, that's my "Rant of the Week" here on CoinTalk!

Sorry, Danr - but Texas is not big enough to give everybody 1 acre.

    1 Acre = 1/640 square mile.
    Texas = 261,914 square miles.
    # of Acres in Texas = 167,624,960 Acres.
Percent of people that could each have 1 acre in TX = 37% of world's pop.

You'd need a little under 3 times that much space to fit everybody in with one acre apiece!

Not to worry. If you placed six billion humans in Texas all at once, the population would diminish to less than a billion within two weeks. No problem. By the way, I think that I will stay home.

The only way to stop illegals is to dry up the employment sources, and our polititions will not do that.
Could it be that they hold stock in the companies doing the hiring???

Dry up employment sources? So what you are saying that we want to do is penalize all companies that COULD have illegal immigrants or that attract illegal immigrants, instead of focusing on the 5% or so of businesses that actually knowingly hire illegal immigrants?

As for people holding stock in the compaies doing the hiring of illegal immigrants: many illegals are hired by businesses that have no trading options in markets. This argument has no base unless you specifically apply it to companies: i.e. Wal-Mart. Very few companies that have trading options would risk knowingly hiring illegal immigrants for fear of alienating their investor base.

Ok I will admit that much of that EVIL meth stuff is walking across the border and if you have not noticed meth is an enormous problem.

The practical solution is to enforce existing immigation laws and focus on the employers who hire illegal aliens. To do so would cripple thousands of California businesses. Such is life. It is the only way to stop the bleeding. The businesses that would be hardest hit would be farms, restaurants, and independent contractors.

If there were no prospective jobs waiting for aliens, the flow of illegals would be reduced significantly, thus allowing the authorities to focus on nefarious aliens with bad intentions. I suspect that labor wages would increase, but there would be fewer minimum-wage jobs. Illegal aliens depress wages around here. The crime rate would diminish, as would the number of persons driving without automobile insurance. Who knows what would happen in the Mexican border towns like Tijuana and Mexicali, but I doubt that it would be nice.

Can we let the good guys in and block the bad guys?

We CAN, but I think it's going to take a radical change that will take some time. I mean, of course, biometrics. That's probably the only way to really track who should be here and who shouldn't. If a business is trying to hire someone, and they can match the fingerprint/retinal pattern/DNA to someone who is legally in the US, it's all good. If it comes up as being an illegal immigrant or someone with no record, then INS should be called in to verify.

That'll take a massive public support campaign, lots of money, and a good deal of time for training on the new system and setup. But I feel it's one of the only ways to tell for sure who is who.

Ok ajm229 - How about if we issue the Minuet Men Sniper Rifles, and give the Boarder Patrol the week off? Does that soluton appeal to you?
These illegals only want a better life. Most are good people and caring families. Unfortunitly we can no longer afford them comming here in numbers that is crippling our ecconomy and infrastructure. Not to mention thoses comming across the boarders with evil in mind. I am hearing some say "build a fence" and I remember Regan telling Gorbachoff to "tear down that wall" between East and West Germany. It didn't work there and it will not work here.
Mexico cannot and will not fix its self - Do you remember when Chevrolet first sent its wiring harness division across the boarder? The Chevy Rep bragged about the Mexican employees making $3.25 when questioned farther he had to admit that was PER DAY not PER HOUR. Resourse wize Mexico is by far better off than the US. Its the level of corruption that is the difference between our countries that is causing the problems.

Bank robbers probably just want a better life too. The key word for me with "illegal immigrant" is ILLEGAL. Meaning, what they're doing is breaking the law. Why should illegal immigrants get an advantage over the people who try to get here legally?

If a solution is ever implimented, it will have to come from the federal government. The California Legislature will never do anything to impact illegal Mexican immigrants.
