I can believe that the gallopers showed Jr. having a high approval rating at that point in his presidency (roughly 2-1/2 to 3 years in) for the reasons I've already stated ...but I'm curious as to what the horsie-polls show for the first year of his 2nd term. Got a link, or can you post?
Looks like it got and stayed below that ~40% only after 5 years in office. Look around 1800 to 1850 days in office. http://www.gallup.com/poll/124922/Presidential-Approval-Center.aspx Looks like he was as popular for that first year of his second term as he (and Obama) were (are) the last year of the first term.
Saw to many republicans who were suppose to lose the election based upon the polls end up winning. Know that Polls can be used in a reliable way, actually studied and was involved with a few in college but anything can be manipulated to fit ones needs. Think Obama' numbers are lower then they show them to be, just as Guliani's first republican mayor in a democrat stronghold and Regan's numbers at the time were much higher then shown at that time. As for Obama winning or losing, lets face it he is gong to get hundred of millions of dollars worth or free advertising by the news/media while any republican is going to be slammed. A republican with a strong base following and actually has a true agenda that is in line with the mindset of the moderate republican/ independent population will win easy for the anti obama extreme right vote is already a given if they have the VP candidate to get them out to vote . Any flip flop or over aged or plain boring candidate, McCain like, doesn't have a chance. Boring loses no matter what party. Just ask Al Gore who gave away the election not from Florida voting against him but for putting an entire democrat and independent voting base to sleep. Hope I stayed on track with the thought line.
Really? A whacked-out socialist? Why wouldn't Stuart Smalley or Michael Moore be on your list? They are all cut from the same cloth.
I have little doubt that if Obama gets a 'Dole' or a 'Mondale' or a 'Gore' or another 'McCain', he is going to get a second term.
Maybe you'd prefer Michelle "God is trying to tell Washington something with earthquakes and hurricanes" Bachmann. What do I mean maybe?
Bachmann again?!?! Not only that, but you cannot even spell her name. You really must be smitten by her.
It's the kind of Socialism the Republicans like. The socialization of losses. When corporations make money it's their money. But when they screw things up and are on the verge of financial collapse it's somehow up to us to use the taxes we pay to bail them out. As far as the banks and the insurance companies go we should have just used the bailout money to buy them. We would have gotten a better deal.
Psst, Moen. They hate talking about the subservient husband-obeying Ms Bachmann. I think she kind of embarrasses them.
They all work for the same people. I think the best thing to do might be to let this rest for a few months. I'm betting that Obama will continue to sell us out and that it will get even worse as time goes on. If I'm wrong I'll be happy, if I'm right I'll be right. Let's see what happens.
There are many of us who do not view the republican leadership as being republican. McCain who supported the bail out did not have the turn out that Bush had for his re-election and there were not alot of republicans that I know of who thought that Bush was a republican. I think this is one of the reasons why the Tea Party grew so quickly as a force. It was a reaction of Republicans who saw the bail out as the last straw and broke away from the Republican party in their own way, Wish many democrats would do the same for the two party system right now is more like one party. They both supported the bail out, there was no prosecution of anyone regarding the fraud and theft, Right or wrong we are still in Iraq and have a even stronger presence in Afghanistan both in which I thought when Bush was president the media and the democratic party was strongly against and correct me if I am wrong but getting out right away was a campaign promise by Obama. I can go on but basically I think that a majority of American people would vote for someone not part of the typical party leadership but more of an independent maverick which what Regan was to the Republican party in his day and what democrats thought and I repeat thought Obama would have been. Lets face it unless the democrat is a person who views his political party as his or her religion, they are deeply disappointed in Obama.
Whenever you vote republican, you say, "I love corporate business, mergers and the rest of it. I love profit over humanity. I enjoy squashing my neighbor for a buck. Killing off a generation or two of good folks is "just business", and I would LOVE to exponentially increase all of the slime, filth and disgust I just described. Yeah...that's me. Push the "republican" button, and carry on". That's all voting republican insures, is that all of it will never end. Republicans LOVE the wealthy. They don't like you interfering with the process.
Umm, I believe I'm on record as stating she is not my candidate. She's a huge improvement over the mess we have now but that really isn't saying much.
But it is interesting how they can't see this as Socialism. They haven't actually defined it as anything else but they definitely know that it isn't Socialism. Of course it's Socialism. Anytime that you have the people bailing out private industry, you have Socialism. The Right-wingers here can't bring themselves to admit it but that only proves their reliance on ideological narratives rather than reality. I don't believe in all out strict Socialism by any stretch but believing that a mix of both capitalism and also that government can play a positive role in society makes me a card carrying Socialist in their eyes. They seem to be incapable of the more complicated ideology that works for more people in society because it requires them to make important distinctions that do not involve more simple black and white concepts.
Thanks. It's pretty much as I figured... the extreme high after 9-11 slowly lowered over 18 months to a more normal rating, then another extreme uptick caused by the invasion of Iraq with another gradual lowering. A third spike, caused by Saddam's capture, lasted for about a month before normalizing. His last hurrah ratings-wise looks to be at the end of January '05, followed by a lonnng, slow decline. I remember seeing his approval ratings lowering near the election, but not enough to lose... four months later and he probably would have lost. Timing is everything lol
