I was trying to be nice. After all, they're so excited about it. When Chucky Heston achieved room temperature it left a real gap. If Eastwood can fill it for them, great. He's the got the most star power of anyone they've had for years. All of a sudden it's okay with them for celebrities and Hollywood types to get involved in politics.
Did you see the part of Eastwood's speech when he tried to name other conservatives in Hollywood? He managed to come up with Jon Voight. The other Hollywood white guy conservative. Jon Stewart did a piece on diversity at the RNC this week that is a must see. It is exactly what I've said all along. Although there are a few token minorities of privilege here and there on the Right, the truth is that there is only one inclusive political party in this country by any objective measure period! And it ain't the Right-wing.
I know Jon Stewart, but who's the other one? Their whole diversity thing is pretty pathetic. They're trying to entice minorities (soon to be majorities) and women into the tent but at the same time they have to assure their base that the party hasn't gone soft on on N*ggers, wetbacks, and fags or is buying into the women's equality thing. I don't envy the Rethugs at all.
I think Jon Stewart in his usual wisdom put this silly chair thing in perspective. Obviously Republicans believe in this invisible Obama that nobody else seems to see except them. That makes perfect sense because they guy the keep describing seems to have no resemblance to the guy the rest of us are seeing thus the invisible Obama becomes the focal point of their irrational anger and must exist albeit in an invisible state of existence. Thank you Mr. Eastwood for making that point so clearly to the entire country.
And yet it is comedy with a purpose. But I suppose if Jon Stewart said that Romney was [Insert slur here] then he'd be a Left-wing pundit that justified everything [Insert slur here] said by Fox News? It's funny how often you jump that fence that separates political satire and real news organizations when it comes to Jon Stewart. The Daily Show is not news but makes cogent points in the age old tradition of political satire while Fox News pretends to be real news but more often comes across as Right-wing propaganda in the tradition of Joseph Goebbels.
...as long as you understand that "purpose" is to entertain the simple-minded (and give them fodder to post on discussion boards).
I love the old Sergio Leone/Eastwood movies. That Eastwood and I don't agree politically isn't going to change that. It's just sad to see anyone be so befuddled...and not know it. The befuddled will be baffled by that. ...Awwwwwwww
Regardless of what you might think of his speech it gave Mitt a lot of media coverage and as such was free advertising, it made the main news over here and the papers (including the tabloids) and that is more than would normally happen.
