I just came across a posting that stated that Peter Davis is selling portions of his own coin collection to keep Coin Talk activated for all of us to use. There are over 4,000 members of coin talk. If we could get 2,000 members to pay 2 dollars in dues, that would be 4,000 dollars to keep our coin club afloat. Or if 1,000 of us just donate 5 dollars a person that would be 5,000 dollars towards the running of this website. I do not know how much it costs to keep a website on a server but if anyone has any ideas that we can turn into substance, then lets get the ball rolling. Suggested ideas: A website posting of where to donate money. B post office box on where to send a check. C. private e-mails asking for a donation to keep our informal club on the internet.
KingsFans.com is supported by members. Posters contribute $25 or $50 each to keep the site afloat. People send checks to the moderator or pay through PayPal accounts. Check it out. CoinTalk is a very good site and worth paying into. QD
there is a paypal link on the main page where members can contribute if they want to. Donations are not required, but if anyone wishes to make one, who will decline
I never saw it myself as well but it is plain to see if one scrolls down to the bottom of the page. I wouldn't mind seeing it on the top of the page. I think this site deserves support from those who enjoy it.
I did awhile back but as soon as my Bro-in-law gets back from his trip I'm going to have him send some for me...he has the Paypal.... Speedy
Ideas... I use 1 & 1 for my personal website. I just spend about $6 a month for plenty of webspace including design software. If Cointalk just through some referral links on the site, they could easily earn the needed revenue to keep the site working. I currently use LINKSHARE and it is relatively easy to build the links. You can actually use LINKSHARE for your personal sites as well. All WE need to do it use their links for our personal shopping needs. One more thing....We only have 4,000 members!!!! We should really work harder to build that number as well. Post information on COINTALK on other sites to push the membership numbers up.
ONLY 4000??? 4000 is alot of members. Sure it may not be as high as some of those 'other' coin site fourms, but we dont have the loser users like those have either. I would rather CoinTalk keep the quality over quantity!!! The members here are polite, generally respectfull, and knowledgeable. Why sacrafice that just to double our #'s rapidly. They will grow, and hopefully with the same quality as the members we now have
My apoligies Jon. you are correct. Quality is definitely better than quantity, but I am sure there are a lot of professional collectors out there that do not know about Cointalk yet. Mike
It is tough to run an active, forum site on a cheap shared server without seriously sacrificing performance. Trust me, I know from past experience when I ran one. I have no idea what Peter is running but I would be shocked if it was not a dedicated server of some flavor or another and those are not typically cheap...even less cheap if it is a manged server.
It's fine if those who want to donate money do so, but it shouldn't be required or the membership would probably go way down. Not everyone can has lots of money. CraigG Answer: 1. Question: How many psychics does it take to change a lightbulb?
