SACRAMENTO— Stung by scandals that threaten to put three of their own behind bars, state lawmakers were preparing Thursday to suspend Sen. Leland Yee, who was arrested a day earlier on charges of corruption and conspiracy to traffic in guns.
Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) has called for a Friday vote to sideline the San Francisco Democrat — with pay — if he does not leave voluntarily, action supported by the leader of the Republican minority.
Yee, arrested by the FBI in a criminal sting operation that also ensnared a notorious Bay Area gangster known as "Shrimp Boy," abruptly ended his campaign to become California's secretary of state in this year's elections. But as of late Thursday, he had not quit the Senate.
"Leave," Steinberg had said in an open plea to Yee at a news conference Wednesday. "Don't burden your colleagues and this great institution with your troubles. Leave."
Yee is the third Democratic state senator to fight criminal charges this year. Sens. Ronald S. Calderon of Montebello, indicted on bribery and money-laundering counts, and Roderick D. Wright, who represents an Inglewood district and was convicted of voter fraud and perjury, have both taken leaves of absence.

March 26 (UPI) -- Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon took bribes from undercover FBI agents, federal prosecutors in North Carolina said Wednesday as they announced his arrest.
Cannon, a Democrat, was released on bond. FBI agents searched his city office, his home and his business office at E-Z Parking Inc.
U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins said the investigation began in 2010 when Cannon was on the city council. He was serving as mayor pro tempore when he was elected to the office in November.
Cannon, who has not yet been indicted, faces charges of theft and bribery. Tompkins said he took $48,000 and a Las Vegas jaunt from FBI agents posing as business people.

—Pennsylvania state Democratic Sen. LeAnna Washington, party animal: This week, a judge ruled that the Keystone State could proceed with a trial against Washington, who reportedly forced her legislative staff for eight years to use taxpayer time and money for an annual birthday party whose proceeds were diverted to her campaign account. She is charged with felony theft of services and felony conflict of interest. More than a half-dozen former employees blew the whistle. "I am the f—-ing senator," she screamed at one staffer who objected. "I do what the f—- I want, and ain't nobody going to change me."http://news.yahoo.com/whole-lotta-d...DMTBtcWxlYTd1BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyOQRzZWMDc3I-

—Rhode Island state Democratic House Speaker Gordon Fox, multiple-raid target: The powerful Democrat, beloved by the left for his gay-marriage activism, announced last weekend that he is stepping down from office after FBI raids on his home and work office. Fox is the target of several criminal investigations by the U.S. attorney's office, FBI, IRS and state police. Mum's the word so far on the nature of the alleged criminal activity involved.http://news.yahoo.com/whole-lotta-d...DMTBtcWxlYTd1BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyOQRzZWMDc3I-

Not arrested, but lets not forget:

Sen. Harry Reid — under pressure from the Federal Election Commission — revealed that he gave about $17,000 in campaign cash[IMG] to his granddaughter in two separate payments that were recorded in his books as “holiday gifts.”
Shortly after the payments came to light, Mr. Reid also announced he was refunding the money[IMG], The New York Post reported.
The checks were cut in amounts of $5,417 and $11,370 and given to his granddaughter last October, the media outlet said. On paper, they were listed as amounts to a person named “Ryan Elisabeth.” It was later learned that the recipient was actually Ryan Elisabeth Reid, 23, who’s the daughter of Mr. Reid’s son, Rory, the New York Post said.
A journalist from Las Vegas[IMG] actually contacted Mr. Reid’s office to ask about the “Ryan Elisabeth” payments and was told that the individual was a campaign vendor — but was not told that she was Mr. Reid’s granddaughter, the New York Post said. Mr. Reid’s office than said that the checks were actually for purchases from “Ryan Elisabeth’s” jewelry shop to give out to donors of Mr. Reid’s campaign.
The full truth of the matter came to light when the FEC contacted Mr. Reid’s campaign and reminded that all disbursements “must include a brief statement or description” and that failure to do so could “result in an audit or enforcement action,” the New York Post reported.
Mr. Reid said on Wednesday that “we complied with all the rules,” the New York Post reported. But at the same time, he said he was going to reimburse the money to his campaign.

I guess Larry, Moe, and Curley decided that their little Democrat thrashing thread had just too many examples the rest of us can throw back in their faces. They decided to slither away.
