I just can't understand why people would be so anxious to pay $60+ for a coin that they will soon be able to buy for $35 from the mint. Marine Commem
Don't get it either. It says 'It is pre-sale auction: reserve your coin'. So, one pays for the priviledge of waiting till the coin is issued, sent to the seller, and then from the seller to the buyer... No sense in it, is there?
I truly believe these folks do not even know they can buy the coins from the mint - let alone how much they would cost.
Sometimes you get caught up in a bidding frenzy, you completly forget how much it is really worth. Your concern is to get the item, and keeping it out of the hands of other bidders.
I saw another listing today for commem sets that really made the red flags fly IMO. The seller had "0" feedback but he stated that he "would no longer sell to residents of a certain state". and that he would accept absolutely no returns in any shape or form. His listing was very professional and looked more like a power seller than a rookie. Then mysteriously, 2 hours later when I check again he now had 12 feedbacks, all from the same 2 buyers with the item #'s listed as "private". Hmmm.
This guy does annoys me... http://search.ebay.co.uk/REICHSPFENNIG_Coi...QfsopZ1QQfsooZ1 His feedback my be 99% but there are about 16 I think who call them fake and not gold...which leads be to believe 99% of people dont even know what they are looking at. Also every coin he calls 'RARE' yet he always is selling dozens at the same time
Now I see the auction ended early. Didn't offer "buy it now" and the buyer got the set already!!!! Must have lived next door. http://cgi.ebay.com/1995-WORLD-WAR-...318468633QQcategoryZ41108QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I saw a post that reminded me of that. The poster stated that he had a "one-of-a-kind" error that he was having certified so he searched through hundreds of examples to find the best one to send in.
they aren't gold - he actually states it in the description, although he follows it up with a comment in all caps, about how the gold coin is sovereign sized, and so forth. But I think the coin is just gold plated zinc (I think the RPf was issued in zinc). No numismatic value, since it is plated, and the gold value is probably a few cents - and they are about as rare as a pimple on a teenager.
Oh aye I knew he was selling them as gold plated coins, but some people have said that it isnt even gold.
well, to be honest, it might as well not be. There isn't enough gold in the plating to be worth testing.
I 'd say 12 feedbacks in 2 hours - he's quite the power seller. I have lived a very sheltered life and had no idea until i came here of the extent of evil-doers on E-Bay - I must confess I bought 61 coins off E-Bay in the last 10 days- But most of my purchases i have been happy with. Of course, i don't have the 10billionXXXXXX power telescope to properly evaluate the coins- but they are beautiful to me-I take the ones I am not happy with and sell to this old guy down the street who has some obsession with fiat money--i can't really understand much of what he says only everytime he says fiat he spits on me- i take a step back and he takes a step forward -there is no dodging the fiat spray- and he buys them for about half what I paid. I'm going to slow down with the buying on EBay though as I am saving for Whitman Coin show in October in Atlanta. Ignorance is Bliss
evil doers. Nah! Ebay is just like a society - you have honest people and you have dishonest people. It's always best to know as much as you can, so you're able to spot the latter as best as possible.
Likewise with uncut sheets... http://cgi.ebay.com/50-STAR-Uncut-S...ryZ40029QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You can get it from the BEP for $900, but here it is offered for US $1,099.00 + $15 shipping. Like you said, "I truly believe these folks do not even know they can buy [anything directly] from the BEP - let alone how much they would cost." Quote auction listing description: "A fabulous opportunity" That said, I'm all for making a buck, when there's a buck to be made, and so long as it's not a scam (and reselling an item at a higher cost isn't), more power to ya'.
