Please feel free to pick this jobs report apart. I'm sure you can find the rain in the silver lining.

Economy Adds 162,000 Jobs in March

    http://money.cnn.com/2010/04/02/news/economy/jobs_march/index.htm?hpt=T1
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The economy had its biggest jump in jobs in three years in March, according to a government report released Friday.
The Labor Department said the economy gained 162,000 jobs in the month, compared to a revised reading of a 14,000 job loss in February. That makes March only the third month since the start of 2008 that employers did not cut payrolls.
Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a gain of 184,000 jobs. But the March number was generally not seen as a disappointment even though it fell slightly short of the consensus forecast, because revisions in January and February readings added a combined 62,000 additional jobs.
While the news was positive, there were a number of short-term factors that inflated the reading, including an addition of 48,000 by the Census Bureau as it geared up for the once-in-a-decade headcount of the U.S. population. Some economists had feared that even more of March's gain would be due solely to Census hiring, so the modest gain was viewed favorably.
March's job gain was also bolstered by weather factors -- February's numbers had been depressed by temporary job losses related to severe winter storms last month.
Still, the addition was good news for an economy that has suffered a net loss of 8.2 million jobs since the start of 2008, a month after the official start of the recession.
And the gains were spread across various sectors of the economy -- 60% of industries added jobs -- the most widespread gains seen across the economy in four years.
That rising tide of hiring brought relief to some long-suffering sectors of the economy. Construction added 15,000 jobs, the first increase of any kind in the sector since June 2007. Manufacturing also added 17,000, with 2,500 of that gain coming at auto plants and their parts suppliers.
Retailers added nearly 15,000 jobs and leisure and hospitality accounted for 22,000 more jobs.
January's reading was revised from a loss to a gain of 14,000 jobs, and February's job loss was also narrowed in the revision. The only other month with even a modest job gain was November 2009, when there was a net gain of 64,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate held steady 9.7% in February, matching economist expectations.

One would think that a positive sign of national economic recovery would be celebrated by all, Republican or Democrat. However, I must admit, there are those among us who are scared that an improvement in the economy will be credited to Obama, thereby greatly increasing his chances for re-election. I am not one of those people. While I don't agree with the policies of Democratic party and many of Obama's initiatives, I very much like his intelligence, charisma, and overall governing style. Looks like the candidates will have to fight for my vote next election.

Continuing that subject, wouldn't it be nice if some of the other members of this forum would expand their minds enough not to consider the opposing political party the enemy? My enemies are those people that are dedicated to the destruction of the United States of America. Neither the Republican Party or Democratic Party fall into that category. Both parties are committed to improving the well being of the US (or at least parts of it), but neither is actively trying to destroy the country. To do so would be both political and economic suicide.

I submit that anyone who wishes continued economic hardship solely for political reasons is an enemy of the United States. I sincerely hope that includes nobody on this forum.

And there you go sounding all reasonable and rational which begs the question....Who are you and what have you done with Lehigh? ;)

Seriously, I agree with everything you've stated here but at the same time the absurd criticisms that have been leveled at this administration force one to just sit back and wait for them to begin once a topic is posted. Any administration is subject to criticism for any number of good reasons from time to time but when the criticism is leveled strictly because it will weaken a presidency and strengthen the chances that the opponents will gain political advantage, it just becomes silly. Both sides are guilty of this practice and depending on which side you are on, your sensitivity to the criticism tends to rise and fall. I didn’t care when the loony Left called out Bush for everything they hated about him but I am more sensitive to the Loony Right criticisms because I feel that their criticisms misrepresent the truth. Few people could actually admit this about themselves or are even aware of the dynamic. The best way to counter falling into this trap is to tune out the extreme voices on both sides and stop using their arguments rather than using them to bludgeon the other side with.

    That’s just my opinion.

Real recovery would certainly be something to celebrate regardless of which party or politician takes the credit. But here's the "but"...given BO's propensity to "create" jobs that really don't exist how can we rely on this report? Another point, according to the AP the number of "jobs created" is misleading because it includes so many temporary jobs created by the 2010 Census and many cases of severe underemployment.
Don't get me wrong, any job created is a positive but don't let BO's desperate attempt to look good be construed as anything other than the political propaganda that it is.

Yes, yes..don't credit Obama with anything. Rather wait until the republicans get back in to free the hostages....I mean claim the credit.

Just so we're clear...you took another shot at Republicans but you can't dispute what I posted, right?

Disputing you is pointless...not because you're correct, but because there is no point arguing with a puppet.

Yep, very typical (see moen's postings). When the facts are contrary to your version of events, resort to name-calling & avoid the question. Typical, very typical.

Yes that certainly is typically the typical response.

So I'll ask again for clarity's sake...You don't dispute the facts I posted, right?

I dispute anything and everything you stand for in the name of humanity. I dispute you on general principle. I dispute you, your party, and your "facts". I support NOTHING you represent. Hope I made that clear enough for your level of comprehension.

That statement only proves that you are incapable of making intelligent decisions because your hatred for the republican party and corporate America has completely consumed your life. Perhaps you should join an anger management class.

Well dude...I'd submit you and Davey are both "incapable of making intelligent decisions" based on yours and his repeated examples of ignorance by either ignoring completely, chopping up or otherwise spinning my past points. My statement most especially applies to Davey because he has demonstrated repeatedly his particular brand of ignorance, something Sean Hannity would be very proud of I'm sure. I guess you both think that you're some kind of magical pair...visions of grandeur.
Far as anger management...I'll agree to go to one if you two agree to counseling for help with improving your moral compasses. Till then...I'm quite comfortable calling a spade a spade and expressing my sentiments concerning the criminal behavior that is routinely accepted as "business" by those with the accompanying and very corporate poor morality. That goes for the republican shills that frequently spew your view of the world as some kind of human poker game. Hatred of corporate and republicans (the collective concept the lemmings calling themselves republican, who's only allegiance is to more of everything at the expense of anybody...not the poor slob that happens to believe the s*** they puke out on Fox and consider themselves republican after being spoon fed their toxicity).
Corporations are by default criminal, as are their corporate party followers of rape and extraction. The sick cult that they are.
Sorry if those facts make you uncomfortable. Well...no...not really.

Speaking of immorality.. When is Rush leaving for Costa Rica???? Does his head count as carry on baggage? Cause if it does...he'd have to check his drug bags.

This is all the validation I need to re-affirm what I believe!
To know that everything I believe is the polar opposite of what you believe reassures me that I am right.

Well at least you recognize that the game of life is really just a big game of poker. Now we just have to teach you how to play. Poker requires patience and well timed aggression. You are the maniac who shoves all in no matter what the situation. Stop being so predictable. Change it up every once in while and at least pretend to be reasonable. Then when someone takes the bait, you can hit the over the head with your left wing conspiracy theory rhetoric. As it stands now, you are just a left wing Midas. So sad!

As I like to say; The extreme Right and the extreme Left are just two different flavors of the same crazy. I'm not condemning anyone currently here but if you go far enough to the Right or far enough to the Left you end up with a group of extremists that are pretty much the same people with different political influences when they were children. I am always amazed how most of us will let the extremes define the debate. I guess they are just the most willing to say the craziest things and garner the most attention from all of us. Why I or anyone else lets themselves get sucked into these polarizing situations, I'll never know.

We don't agree often, but we do on this issue. Maybe Tom can take solace in the fact that our system of government makes it virtually impossible for the radical ideas to be implemented. They crazy radicals get a lot of attention but rarely get what they want.
