My girl is eleven. Yesterday she brings me a permission slip from school asking me to approve her attending a girls only puberty class. I have to make this decision because my wife is out of town. Now my girl is a young woman now and she needs a class on the changes her body is experiencing..... But because this world is so out of focus, I feel I have to call her school and confirm that this will ONLY be a puberty class and will have no iteration of gender confusion. That is a family discussion in my home when that need arises.... I swear this feels like the most embarrassing phone call I have ever had to make and I shouldn’t have to make it.
I would call the school and see what the class entails. Then decide if you want your daughter to attend or not.
That’s what I did. Thankfully it was simply a class about puberty. I told the assistant principal that I was very embarrassed having to ask her that question and she set me at ease. My girl has my approval slip in her book bag. I still don’t believe I have to be concerned with such things.
Yep it’s a different world today than the one you and I grew up in. I’ll leave it up to each person to decide if it’s better or worse. Personally, I think it’s better in some ways (medicine, technology, etc.) and worse in others (inflation, Joy Behar, etc.).
This is nothing that we all didn't experience unless I suppose you were raised in the South. I went to a Catholic school and I remember being separated from the girls and dragged to the school library to hear about what my private parts were for. Dang! Wish I had been paying attention that day. Ah screw it! I'll Google it.
