I no longer care about what Trump flushed or what Hillary lied about.... Below is the fifth cost increase I have incurred since last year. My company does several million a year with these people. I cannot take any more hits and I know that I can't be the only one..... When will the adults show up and address the bloodbath that all of us average Americans are taking? Seriously, WHEN??? It is high time our lawmaker set aside the tit for tat and address this merciless slaughterhouse that is our current economy. Other than some lip service, I see absolutely nothing of any substance taking place in Washington and I have had enough of the kids games. ENOUGH!!
It stinks to high heaven MD. I'm living these same increases at work, scrambling to meet customer's demand for product, which is especially difficult when many of our customer's products are UL and / or FDA Certified, RoHS and / or Reach Compliant, etc. This situation has become very stressful, and many folks outside of industry are completely oblivious to that. As you know, the ones trying to supply product are twice as unhappy as the ones complaining because they can't get what they want. Rome is burning, and it feels like saving it is beyond our ability. So much of our economy has been dismantled and everything is so interdependent that any successful recovery will likely be years into the future . . . not mere months. Only 2 kinds of businesses are likely to weather this storm . . . those with extremely strong cash positions, and those which attract buyers / investors (preferably company insiders who understand the challenge and how long it may take to dig out) willing to support the business through this situation. There will be far fewer jobs at the end of this crisis than there are today, and those who manage to work through it will be the sharpest and most in demand. I see workers dropping like flies in my industry and others, with little sincere intent to resume work elsewhere. This is not going to end well, no matter what they have been led to believe. Keep your chin up for as long as you have your heart in it, as attrition will thin out the herd, and I'd like to see your company come out one of the survivors. You'd be stronger for it.
I am just stunned at the lack of concern in Washington. I came home and sat and griped with my wife and she showed me an interesting communication she had today. She is in charge of technology services at a major university. The university is building a huge student housing project scheduled to be in operation in September. Today the contractor sent in the data requirements for the project thinking he had plenty of time. The university correspondence with the manufacturer was that they were 18 months out on delivery. And further, the price quoted was no longer the price. They will notify the university when the data equipment is ready to ship and provide current cost at that time…….. Perhaps an institution can function entirely unaware of their costs. I don’t know. I do know that a business cannot……. And in the background I can hear Pelosi on TV stating, “the economic crisis is due to the added jobs in the workforce creating higher demand and higher costs”……. Please call the adults back to work. These people have absolutely no clue whatsoever. I am simply stunned.
So the Republicans offer exactly nothing and block what the Democrats want to do for small businesses struggling by filibustering the Build Back Better Plan and you guys all blame the Democrats. Hum? Kind of getting exactly what you voted for aren't you? You make it very heard to have much sympathy for your plight. Elections have consequences boys. Vote Democrat in the future or stop whining. HOUSE PASSAGE OF BUILD BACK BETTER PLAN IMPORTANT STEP FOR SMALL BUSINESS RECOVERY; SENATE MUST NOW PASS THIS PLAN WITHOUT DELAY Friday, November 19, 2021 Statement from John Arensmeyer, Founder & CEO of Small Business Majority, calling for the swift passage of key investments in the care economy needed to better position small businesses for a long-term recovery "Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better plan, which includes robust investments in healthcare, childcare and paid family leave needed to ensure that small businesses are at the center of a thriving and equitable economy. We strongly urge the U.S. Senate to swiftly pass this plan and keep these key provisions in place to bolster our nation’s entrepreneurs and their employees. Small business owners need and support the benefits included in the Build Back Better bill to give them the economic foundation to start and grow businesses and to promote a more resilient workforce. In particular, strengthening the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by reducing health insurance premiums for more than 9 million Americans who buy insurance through the ACA marketplace, the majority of whom own or work for a small business, is an essential step in their long-term recovery. Additionally, the bill includes support for quality and affordable childcare that will greatly support small business childcare providers who are predominantly underpaid and overworked women and people of color. The lack of access to affordable childcare has become increasingly complex and a significant burden to working parents, impeding retaining a skilled small business workforce. What’s more, the legislation would invest in a national paid family leave program, support that is needed to promote a stronger workforce and ensure that small businesses that can’t afford robust benefits are able to compete with large corporations for talent. While we are disappointed that the tax provisions have significantly changed from what was originally introduced, we are pleased that the bill retains the 15% minimum tax on corporate profits that large corporations report to shareholders, as well as setting a minimum tax rate of 15% on corporate offshore profits. Small businesses are strongly supportive of provisions that will help ensure wealthy corporations and individuals pay their fair share while addressing disparities for Main Street. It’s important to note that while the bill makes substantial investments in healthcare, childcare, and paid family and medical leave, we are incredibly disappointed that the $25 billion allocated for small business-related assistance and programs in September was drastically reduced to only $5 billion. Funding for important U.S. Small Business Administration resources—such as a direct lending product, the Community Advantage Program, and the Office of Native American Affairs, among others—needed to spur entrepreneurship and address barriers in access to capital for under-resourced small businesses was significantly cut. We hope that these provisions are restored by the Senate or addressed in future legislation. Our nation needs the robust investments included in this bill to create a thriving, equitable economy. The U.S. Senate must come together now to quickly adopt this plan and get these critical resources to America’s job creators, who have already been waiting far too long."
I was thinking about that too. Everyone here may not agree with the proposals of BBB, either fully or in part, but it's not like they're just doing nothing about the economy. Like you said, a bill was made, it was blocked, no formal counter-proposals were made by Republicans. Is it really easier to believe that democrats are sinking the ship of America for some intangible far off "reset" than it is to believe Republicans are simply blocking things to make things seem worse and worse for the upcoming elections?
People that start businesses are by and large self starters. They don’t want or need assistance for problems we can tend to on our own….. What we need is the fed to stop meddling. That’s all in boils down to. Meddling is what got us where we are. We are in the throes of an inflationary environment the likes that I have never seen. Printing and spending trillions more will only serve to exacerbate the cycle…… Just leave us alone and we will right the ship. The fed is inept and incapable of “helping” this problem….. This is why the republicans have blocked this. They do want to help by getting the hell out of my way.
How exactly is the Fed meddling? Be specific please. I'd like to know which policies have hurt your business?
