Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) this week denounced plans for companies to mandate vaccinations for their employees -- but then wouldn't tell a reporter if he personally had been vaccinated.

Local news station WKOW reports that Grothman falsely claimed that the vaccine was "experimental" despite having been proven to be safe and effective at protecting people against a disease that so far has killed 600,000 Americans.

"I think, particularly as this vaccine is still experimental, I don't like the idea of forcing people, to keep their job, to do something they are opposed to," he said.

Grothman acknowledged that "I think there's unquestionably, particularly, the older people benefits to the vaccine," but then said he was "not going to play doctor to everybody in Dane County tonight."

Grothman then started to walk away from the interview after being asked if he'd been vaccinated while only saying that, "I don't like to get into taking sides on it."

toughcoins Rarely is the liberal viewpoint tainted by realism

The COVID-19 vaccines received emergency use authorization based on interim data that showed they were safe and effective for only about three months. For full approval, the FDA has at least six months of efficacy data to review -- and that means combing through and analyzing an enormous amount of information.

More to come, but since the FDA has not yet determined that the vaccines are both safe and effective beyond 3 months, the jury is still out on whether any of them will obtain FDA approval. Therefore, at this time, yes, they are technically still experimental.

Obviously, the folks at WKOW News and rawstory.com need to do a bit more digging and less sensationalizing.

now now, you don't want to take a stand AND STAND UP FOR VACCINATING THE POPULATION TO MAKE IT SAFER.

Absolutely. I think refusing to vaccinate is playing with explosives. It is foolish….. I don’t know about anywhere else but we haven’t been given the green light to vaccinate anyone under the age of sixteen…. And children here are being decimated….. You can make this as political as you like. Adults that don’t vaccinate have made their choice and have to live with it. These kids (in my area) don’t have a choice. I could give a tinkers damn about politics when kids are falling like flies around me.

I got vaccinated. not because I was afraid I wouldn't live through but I thought it was the right thing to do for my country and mankind in general

Anybody heard of any polio cases recently? Didn't think so.

TC stated it in another thread. The benefits outweigh the risks.

Something we seem to agree on for the most part.

Do you think a government mandate for vaccination is acceptable? Why or why not? Do you have any exceptions? I’m not trying to be argumentative or trying to be pro/anti vac. I’m just curious from a conservative perspective. Thanks MD

Well honestly….. I am a bit conflicted here. I think that long ago the government intruded upon my decision making far too deeply. From that view, no I would not favor mandated vaccinations…… Now the other side of me is living in a city where children are falling like flies. From that angle I see this more like a drunk driver issue. Don’t come near my kids unless you are vaccinated…… I am truly conflicted on this one and don’t have a clear defined view on this one.

I fully support your right to contract covid and be a part of its mutation. You have all the rights and expectations to go cough on kids.

You should make it clear when you are kidding. It is exactly this sort of diatribe that makes people believe that any sort of mutual understanding can ever be accomplished.

Here is the thing. We have already been "mandating" vaccines for kids to enter the public school system for like ever. Do you see polio, small pox, mumps, or rubella running rampant through our school systems these days? Of course not because we vaccinate our kids. This virus is no different. We have the means to stop the spread of a deadly virus, we, or at least a good portion of us, don't have the common sense to to keep doing what we have been doing all along because it has been politicized by one political party that couldn't care less about the people they claim to represent. Is anybody's political career really worth all the death and misery they are fomenting with lies and deceit? Hell no!

On the one hand, you have to be disgusted by the politicians that would be so cynical as to watch their own constituents and supporters sicken and die but on the other hand, these people have the ability to educate themselves in the face of any controversy. The evidence is overwhelming in favor of the vaccine and yet these people choose to follow the advice of people that are killing them. If this isn't a cult, what is? It is a cult of death and stupidity and I just can't give a damn about these idiots one moment longer. There should be an island of misfit idiots that we can send these people to. Trump can be the president of the island.

It's a vaccine just like the vaccines you have been getting since you were a kid.

Audience Cheers After QAnon Rep. Suggests Shooting Door-to-Door Vaccine Info Volunteers.

"Well Joe Biden wants to come talk to you guys. He's going to be sending one of his police state friends to your front door. ... What they don't know is in the South we love our Second Amendment rights, and we're not big on strangers showing up on our front door, are we? They might not like the welcome they get."

I stood in a line at attention in July of 1977 in my skivvies getting inoculation after inoculation my first day in the Army. To this day, I couldn't tell you what any of them were. I couldn't question things because I was government property... But by and large, as a nation we believed our government had our best interests at heart back then. Now we live in an age where we don't trust what these people say or believe that their intentions are directed toward anything except their own self preservation. They have succeeded in dividing the nation one against the other to a degree we haven't witnessed for 160 years. We have now digressed to a point that we regard anything that comes from Washington as being "tainted". Yet, we continue to bicker among ourselves and further fall into this bottomless pit from which it appears there is no return. And we support all this chaos with our unending hate speech towards one another.... Mark my words... The only winners in all this chaos is the fed. We are losing this battle as long as we fight one another.... A bit of gentle persuasion may get people in for a shot. Belittling them will not. Things will again deteriorate. The fed bails us out of another mess, they gain more control of our lives... The fed wins and we lose..... Mark my words.

I don't care to belittle individuals nearly to the degree that I am calling out the political leaders feeding them misinformation. But at some point, that personal responsibility has to kick in for these folks. Unless they are mindless sheep, they bear some of the blame for their own inaction. If they feel like my side is belittling them, they always have the option to prove us wrong. I'd welcome the opportunity to have that conversation. They aren't asking me which opens them up to any and all deserved criticisms. It's on them at this point.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former South Florida talk show host Dick Farrel, known and beloved by fans for his over-the-top right-wing opinions, has died from complications from COVID-19.

On Facebook, Farrel advocated against getting the coronavirus vaccine and was skeptical of Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, and his recommendations concerning the coronavirus. Friends said after contracting the virus he changed his point of view.

"COVID took one of my best friends! RIP Dick Farrel. He is the reason I took the shot. He texted me and told me to 'Get it!' He told me this virus is no joke and he said, "I wish I had gotten it!" said Farrel's close friend Amy Leigh Hair on her Facebook page. She told WPTV, "I was one of one the people like him who didn't trust the vaccine. I trusted my immune system. I just became more afraid of getting COVID-19 than I was of any possible side effects of the vaccine. I'm glad I got vaccinated."

Former Market General Manager for CBS Radio West Palm Beach, Lee Strasser, remembered Farrel, whom he hired in the 1990s. "Dick was flamboyant, outrageous at times, and willing to take on any and all comers. He loved to engage with local politicians and pulled no punches," he said. "Was he right all the time? No... But he was "RIGHT" all the time, especially if you asked him. Did he stay out of trouble? Not always. Was he great with clients? Yes. Was he a pleasure in the building? Absolutely. Was he loyal? Unquestionably! Was he skilled? Yessir! His passing is a big loss. He was a kind-hearted person with a load of passion, and his memory will stand the test of time. We have all lost a friend in Farrel."

Radio veteran, and life-long friend, George Kalman, said, "We became such close friends that he would always call me for advice when applying for jobs or anything pertaining to radio. I was like a big brother to him. As I told [WPTV NewsChannel 5] on the phone I owned WFLN AM in Arcadia and WJUP FM in Jupiter. He did the morning show on WJUP and I did the afternoon show. For WFLN, Farrel was Production Director. After I retired and sold my stations in 2016 Farrel, went on to anchor for Newsmax and did voiceover work. Before I left for New York City [this] May he came over to my house in Jupiter for a bar-b-que and was doing fine. [The] problem is COVID got him. As you can imagine I am very upset about his demise and will miss him greatly."
