At what age do you think a child is able to "survive outside the womb"? I don't think my 12 year old could survive without us.
Maybe you underestimate her. The instinct to survive is great. There have been stories of children younger than that living on the streets. Not to get all Oliver Twist, but it can be done. If you have the will to survive.
"Live outside the womb". As in breath. Maintain a regulated heartbeat. Continue to live and develop after being removed from the mother. A multi-celled embryo is not going to be able to do those things. If you want a more scientific word, maybe explore the term 'viable'. I was trying to keep it simple by saying 'live' but it seems that somehow even became something about a 12 year old surviving without its parents. Just to be clear, I also wasn't talking about surviving a fight with a grizzly bear.
