Another side hobby of mine for the last 6 years has been tracking hurricanes. It was NOT fun accurately predicting Katrina. The same ingredients are in place again for Rita.

Where ever it goes I hope everyone gets out of the way. Way, way, far out of the way. :(

I am also a hurricane watcher. Why hurricane watching is only second to college football where I live and the two do intermingle with University of Miami being called the Hurricanes. I'm more of a FSU man myself and one of the reasons why I like them is their kicks tend to go far right or far left and that is what I root for with the hurricanes.. far right or far left. Another bar drinking root would be North North West which means the hurricane would miss us and go up the gulf. The whole thing is surreal especially when I had the kids out flying kites when I knew 40 miles away a whole area just got leveled, that was Charley.

Well, wherever the hurricane ends up, I think we can all agree, no matter our other views, that we wish the people of that area well and hope they all turn up safe afterwards.

You got to watch more than the storm and what it can do to you. A barrel of oil went up $7.35 on the belief that a oil derick will be hit and put out of production. So look for gasoline to hit the roof again.

Then there is the Fed talking about what the interest rate is going to have to do because of all the spending required to fix up NO. Going to cost you a little more on the credit card real soon also.

    Double whammie!

I know this is probably bad, but I'm kind of glad that I don't have a car up here at college.... I'd have even less money than I already do!

Huh? Afraid I don't follow! If you mean how much does it cost to wash my clothes: about $2.00 for a wash and dry.

I guess you are a young one after all. Way back in the dark ages "beer" was often referred to as "suds", and it was also sold in buckets, if you can believe that.
The ref. to the student union was the establishment (in my college days)that sole the beer. We also had one called th Library and Study Hall. That way when you told your folks you were going to the Library and probably the study hall, you weren't lieing.

I hope this helps. So now back to the qestion: How much does a gallon of beer cost in todays dollars?

Actually, I hope that I am wrong in my views about the terrorist thread for if I am right, our children have troubled times ahead.

Now as far as wishing the best in terms of the hurricane, I also hope that I am wrong again but I am tending to agree with the theory that we are heading into a dreadful hurricane cycle where they are going to be many for many years and stronger then we were used to.

Ah, lol! Thanks for the info! Actually, as a matter of fact, this question would be better put to my roommate, not to me. I don't drink! I know, I know.... "a college kid who doesn't drink?!?!?! What is this world coming to?!?" ;)

So to be perfectly honest, I haven't the foggiest idea how much a gallon of beer costs. From working at a grocery store though, most twelve packs that I've sold cost around $5-$8 depending on the brand.

That is all right ajm (wink), I knew all along that you spent all your time either at the Library or in Study Hall (wink-wink).

Lol... Well, I DO go to the Library a lot....! In all reality, if coffee were an intoxicating drink.... I would be trashed 24-7!

I remember a period of time when I lived on Turkish coffee for it didn't take much to keep one up and alert. Also the taste as bad as it was could be tolerated as a chew.

Beer must go very well with hurricanes. I haven't been much of a drinker in the last 20 years or so but one of pre-hurricane supply rushes in my part of florida is beer. It is common to see people fill up with ice, batterys and beer. I for one don't know why one wouldn't keep himself physical and mentally alert on such occassion but perhaps that is how they handle being locked up in a house with shuttered windows.
