I already started a thread about my thoughts an taxes, so here's another proposal....

Instead of socializing/ruining our healthcare system how about passing legislation that would sever all ties between your personal health insurance & your employment?

Since I have been using a form of socialized medicine as part of my employment for the last 20 years, and will continue to use it until I die - unless they change the laws - I am probably not the best person to ask. ;)

I can tell you from the perspective of a supporter of a family, though, that there are a lot of things I would rather they take away from me than health care. The worries about your family that it takes away are unbelievable.

However, when I was looking for my next job as I was retiring from the military, knowing that I could go do anything I needed to do to put food on the table (dig ditches, work multiple minimum wage shifts, or even have any kind of lapse in benefited employment) without worrying about what would happen if my wife or kids got sick, was a great feeling.

I'm not implying one's insurance coverage should go away, by any means. I believe a families insurance costs will decrease and coverage/care will improve when people begin shopping for coverage themselves and competition comes about. Why should healthcare be intertwined with employment anyway? Lose your job, lose your coverage? Why?

Because as group health insurance, a companys cost is considerable lower than an individuals. I know its no poblem for you to spend seven to eight thousand dollars a day in a hospital. But then health plans and HMOs werent designed for people like you. Its not intertwined, its one of the benefits one may receive. You could just as easily be employed by a firm that offers no health plan. With that one might choose Blue Cross Blue Shield. Which has a much higher premium. So I dont see how costs would decrease.

Group coverage is the only thing currently that prevents the insurance carriers from totally dropping the higher risk families. I don't see any way that a free market on health care could work that doesn't leave millions without coverage because the insurance companies won't cover them or they were priced out of the market.

How about we just all quit our jobs and go on welfare?

Costs would go down & care would improve due to, say it with me, COMPETITION. If everyone shopped their healthcare coverage rather than simply going along with their employers plan, healthcare rates would fall dramatically. Don't forget one thing, for every high risk insured who benefits from group rates & pays lower rates, many, many low risk insureds are picking up that slack in the form of higher rates as part of that group. You pay your homeowners insurance & auto insurance seperate from your employer, why should health insurance be any different?

It shouldnt be, but youre wrong. And what about those high risk people who dont have good employee insurance and are turned down when looking for thier own? AND THE COST OF PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE IS INCREDIBLY HIGH!!!! Maybe it isnt in your perfect dream world scenario(where no one pays taxes, no one ever gets sick, only good looking, well paid people walk around, and all politicians succomb to your ideas.). But here on earth, for now, it is.

As opposed to your belief that the government "owes" us?
I guess laying around the house all day & sponging off the government...expecting the government to deterrmine the course of your life...make decisions for you...pay your way, etc is your American Dream?
Well, it's not mine. What's your issue with individualism & personal achievement, anyway? If I want to work harder than you to provide the kind of lifestyle I want for my wife & kids, why should it be held against me? If I want to earn (& keep) enough of my money so that I can retire at 45 and provide for myself rather than rely on Social Security, why is that wrong?
And anticipating your next argument...I give a lot of money to worthy causes. A LOT!! So your recycled argument about "screw the poor" is way off mark.

Where did I write that the government owes us? For that matter, Where did I write anything that warrants this diatribe? The government doesnt provide health insurance to private companies. And I bet you are a regular J P Morgan. A LOT!! More money than you make in a lifetime. I can buy and sell you. Blah blah blah. The KKK and The Christian Patiots Defense League are not worthy causes.

Give us your solution to our economic woes.

I dont have a solution. and I dont pretend to have one. It hasnt really affected me. But I dont see how a solution on economic woes, has anything to do with group health insurance. And what do you care about it? With all your braggadocio about how superior you are, you should have little concern with others peoples misfortune.

That's what I thought...you enjoy your seat on the sidelines, arm-chair coaching, don't you?

You dont have a solution either, cliche boy. You only have an idea. And an idiotic one at that. You are so transparent. You think that what you want to happen is the only thing that will work. Well the solution for your economic problems isnt going to work for everyone.

This from the same guy who thought it was idiotic to tell our politicians what we think? Hey at least I have an opinion! If we don't come up with a solution, where's it going to come from genius? The government? I don't believe the Obama admin has a solution other than to spend, spend, spend and hope a miracle happens in the meantime. Is that what you support? I guess it is, if you want to blast people who make a suggestion or offer an opinion. I know your type...let the government decide for us & we'll all be better off, right?

An opinion is not a solution. And thats what you asked. You have no idea what ''type'' I am. So yeah, keep guessing. I dont think its idiotic to write to politicians. Its just idiotic to constantly write to them. The way I bet you do....''I think rappers should be banned.''.... ''I think underwear shouldnt be seen above pants.'' ....''I dont like the car my nieghbor drives. And I think he looks Arabic.''. Pathetic.

See, now you're just getting silly (but it's a tactic you revert to often when unable to make a coherent, lucid point).

Wrong again. Just pointing out the kind of tripe you bother your politicians with. At least I dont call you names, schmuck.
