Bit more than a simple celeb though isnt he David, he did serve on the Cincinnati city council from 71 to 74 then in 77 dispite his episode with a prostitut earlier in his political life he became the mayor of that City I believe he ran for govenor and Senate?

Is this really the person you want to defend. His way of making his millions was probably the most despicable in history. He exploited the poorest most pathetic citizens of the US by humiliating them on public television. I would not trust the opinion of anyone willing to stoop to that level simply to make a buck. Springer is the W-H-O-R-E in this story.

 

Actualy all he is doing is following the American Dream and making money, if idiots wish to pay to see him that is there problem. Lets not forget his stint as a political commentator and tv anchor man Within two years he was Cincinnati's number one news anchor, winning ten local Emmy Awards for his nightly commentaries. He took his news channel (WLWT) from the lowest ratings right to the top
If you actualy check his early show you will see he had guests like Olli North on (Oh yeh it's true)

 

The casino industry does not thrive off the unfortunate souls with gambling problems despite what you have heard. I don't have a problem with him exploiting those people either. But when you engage in that type of behavior, your political opinions carry less weight because you have exposed your true character.

 

I don't care what his accomplishments are, his character is such that I don't give a **** what he thinks about any public issue. If he wanted to be taken seriously, perhaps he should have thought about the ramifications of his horrible TV show.

 

LOL so you dont like the guy it dont invalidate what he says now as for the gaming industry not exploiting people what utter bull that is precisly what they do. Tell me what does the inside of a casino look like? is it all nice and glittery with nice looking ladies serving drinks, do you have nice comfy seating areas? it is all done to attract and exploit the punter it just has a nice gloss on it.
Now again I am not condeming the industry far from it they do at least provide a safer enviroment for enjoying gambling than there once was and they try to keep it honest
Now as for Mr Springer his show was only on the box because people wanted to watch it (you cant argue against that) if the ratings are no good a show is pulled simple economics higher audience figures increse advertising revenue He simply gave the public what they wanted the same way that your industry does.
So I take it that you believe that every news/chatshow/game show host you see on TV is showing there true character when they perform to a audience? well you must do as that is what you have decided about Mr Springer

 

Every person has a line that they will not cross in order to make a buck, except Jerry Springer. The difference between Springer and the others is that the others are did not humiliate their guests on TV. His decision to do so tells us a lot about his character. What it tells me is that I don't have any interest in taking political advice from someone with such low character. And to be honest, your defense of him is hurting your character, if only through my eyes.

Furthermore, you characterization that every casino patron is exploited is bull ****. The large majority know that they are paying for entertainment and that in the long run they will lose money if they continue to gamble. So a little old lady goes to the casino 50 times and loses $25 each time she plays. It doesn't hurt that much each time but the end result was a $1,250 loss. On the 51st visit to the casino, she hits a $1,000 jackpot. The result is that she spent $250 for the thrill associated with winning $1,000. She then repeats this year after year. And you think she feels like the girl on the Springer show who found out her boyfriend was ****ing her best friend, a midget, and a donkey on national TV.

 

Exactly were did I say every patron? (Nope never did) but I will ask you what the prime reason for a casino's existance is (Try "making money") Also be so kind as to show me were I mentioned a little old lady? and were exactly I have condemnd the industry at all? Why are you so defensive when I havent actualy attacked your industry? Now tell me that the make up of a casino is not done precisly to entice punters through the doors? Now that sir is exploiting a very human weakness, nothing is left to chance about how they work.
On to the Springer show, can you show me a single Springer episode were HE has humilited anyone (With the exception of the Klan) the people who go on his show know exactly what it is about (or do you think they live in a bubble cut of from tv?) they go on for there 5 mins of fame. They ritualy humiliate themselfs he simply provides the platform. Answere this one for me if your partner ever said to you "Honey we are going on the Jerry Springer show" What would you think she was going to tell you how deeply she loved you!! Of course not you know full well it is going to be something bad (or would you like to try denying that) He even asks at the end of many of his shows WHY do they go on and has stated He never would!! Then for instance take the Maury show were he has ladies bringing on countless lovers who they swear is the father of there child only to be told they arnt (yet they keep reapearing) is that not humiliation? The fools who go on some of the game shows (specialy those out of Japan LOL) and the things they do to try to win a silly prize!!

 

I am just curious if you 2 know just how much of the Jerry and Mauri shows are setups? I really do not know for sure, but it seems odd that they can find so many (fill in the appropriate nouns) to fill their shows.

They run promo ads in local papers for the wildest examples of white trash, then the producers coach them on how to look even stoopider......

It is in fact a set up and there are no suprises...they are almost given a script. They know in advance when to rip a shirt off, pull a wig off, etc etc

They shoot 30-40 hours of film ( film...I'm an oldtimer ) for 48 minutes of television on those reality shows. A Springer, Oprah, Maury etc shoots about 3 hours for 48 minutes..

A one hour Discovery show can take 1000 hours

I worked at Panavision in Hollywood for many years, have a few insights...

 

Casinos (like every other business) are in business to make money. You did attack the casino industry when you compared it to the Jerry Springer show. Furthermore, you don't have a damn clue as to what you are talking about. "Nothing is left to chance about how they work" That is your quote. Guess what! My casino actually lost money last weekend. A high roller cleaned our clock. I guess we intended that to happen huh?

Regarding the Springer show, every guest is humiliated. It makes no difference that they know what is coming, that they are paid to do it, they are still humiliated so that Springer and the network can get rich.

LOL so comparing your industry to a tv show is a attack (sorry but is that the best you can do?) Both are aimed at a target audience both will try there best to entertain and keep that target audience coming back for more, both are in the entertainment buisiness are they not?
So your Casino made a loss last week, care to tell us what it's yearly returns were? Because if it made a loss every week it woudnt be running anymore now would it?
Lehigh tell me what aspect of the Casino industry is left to chance (other than the actual game?) If they have a referb do they just splash a bit of paint about or do they hire the best designers to make sure the place is inviting to the punters?
What makes you so sure that I dont have a clue LOL you know nothing about what life experiences I have had But do you care to deny that everything in a casino is geard at bringing punters in through the door? Care to tell us what Comps they give high rollers to entice them to There Casino? Having someone actualy make a big win at such a establishment is a bonus that can be used to the advantage of the casino in exactly the same way the Lottery likes to advertise big winners it gives everyone the feeling that they can win, yet in reality the odds allways favour the house (care to deny that?) (Normal house edge at roulette in the US around 5.26% LOL) or how about the house edge at Blackjack? on one deck game it is very low but if you start to take it up the scale to say a 4 or 6 deck game then they rise from 0.17% to around 0.60% ah but I dont know anything about the Industry folks so disregard my figures and check them out for yourself +

Oh I quite agree that Springer and the rest are well orchestrated hell they fly folks across the country put them up in hotels it to is a buisness.
