Same thing that happened to me when I was seven and using streetlights as my slingshot target. Mister policeman sat at the corner and watched me sling a few stones at my target. He then quietly pulled up behind me and hit the siren for a second and made me wee myself. Loaded me up in the backseat and took me home to mom who immediately closed the garage door, took out the strap and wailed on my backside like she was tenderizing a tough steak...... That was one damn tough lesson and I NEVER again viewed another persons property with anything less than the upmost respect.
That worked for you as a kid. Now, the criminals are a little older. While there is hope for the young criminals the older ones are lost. My solution is very simple. Our criminal justice system is a farce. So for anyone over the age of 12 who is a second time offender and any first time criminal over 18: Do the crime and get caught - the next day on the Pay Per View live punishment TV channel you get lowered very slowly into a clear-sided cylinder four feet in diameter filled with a bunch of starving Piranhas so even with the bloody water churning, we could still see your flailing body parts and hear your screams over chants of "feed the fish, feed the fish." Steal from your boss you get the fish. Grab a purse, you get the fish. Mob a store you get the fish. Carjackers and bank robbers get the fish. Shoplifters get the fish. Break into a parked car, get the fish. Rioters get the fish - THAT NIGHT. Rape a woman, get the fish. Cast an illegal vote, get the fish. Spy on my country, get the fish. Beat up a queer, you get the fish. Dead criminals don't do crimes. In a very short period of time, the piranhas will be starving again but the crime rate will be cut to about 1% of the population. Then we need to fead anyone in prison for life to the fish just to save the money we spend taking care of them.
