I think China will be a bigger deal in the next 20 years than the Islamic countries. here are a few unconnected thoughts on China: (Almost) all those peasants in the Chinesse countryside can read (China has a high litercy rate because of Mao). China is graduating many times more engineers per year than the USA. China are currently in various stages of development of 30 (these plants are state of the art-better than anything that exists today) new nuclear power plants which will approximately double the world output of nuke electricty, also that Three Gorges dam will create enormous amounts of power. China are eating up many basic materials (steel, copper, etc..) and will continue to do so. It is as if a huge percentage of the worlds population needs infrastructure very quickly. Any other obersvations, conclusions, or predictions about China? Not really looking for controversy more analysis
Yes, they are going full tilt with a Space Programme, and are talking of sending their cosmonauts to the moon. This is not immediately worrisome. What is worrisome is that they now have the means to build a huge military industrial complex and dictate terms to the rest of the world. Not a noticeable thing now, but wait another 10-15 years.
Your right there Danr, China will become a very interesting spot in this world. Then to make matters worse, our "stupid" President goes over there and gets friendly with them and get them talking and trading goods. How the Helllllllll can you have them as enemys when they want to be friends?
I hope they do. BTW Bush Sr. was ambassador to China. Anyway we will see many changes in US China relations over the next 10 years and Bush will not have much to do with it.
U.S.A.... E.U....China... big boys on the block and are bound to butt heads sooner or later. also depending on how the E.U. does i wouldnt be surprised to see south america do the same thing.
Clinton gave China the space technology that they now have. That is why he got so much money in donations from them. China is a major threat to Asia as a military might and if anyone reads Janes out there they will know that the other Asian nations are building up their navies. China is not a direct threat to the United States. We are there major market first of all. Second of all they have nothing to gain by it for we are slowly pulling away from having Asia as a sphere of influence. The Muslims want our way of life dead. Plain and simple. There is no tolerance in Islam which is why they have been killing each other so much since the great divide. The only major threat we have from China is an indirect one in that one of their warlords, excuse me they call themselves generals today, selling technology on the open market that could come back to harm us.
Bush really gave'em heck. I agree with the sentiment, they deserve their freedoms, but I don' know if this is the way to do it.
Well start learning some spanish for it looks like to me that the long term goal is for North and South America to be one big trade partner and perhaps more.
