Barry Goldwater said something to the effect that "any government that has the power
to regulate _____________has the power to regulate you!

They went after gas stoves, gas powered outdoor tools, toilets, and now they are after the dishwashers. Hope you are getting adjusted to the Commie Monkeys destroying our freedom using the fake climate change crap! All this as Red China is building more coal fired power plants.

Small-minded people they are, on their full-blinders mission . . . it won't be long before we'll be buying high-polluting, lower-cost electricity imported from Chinese cooperatives just across our borders.

I don’t mind using improved products. In fact, I rather like the new bulbs. What I don’t like is something being foisted upon me by a political agenda…. Reminds me of pumping gas in the 70’s when unleaded gas was mandated for new cars. People were pissed that they couldn’t fit the leaded pump in their tanks and having to pay the already over inflated gas prices they were dealing with….. Oh wait. That was a Carter thing, wasn’t it?… My how history repeats itself when we don’t pay attention.

The simple fact is that the people who have been elected to run this country are doing things on purpose that are destroying our country from within. No nation in the history y the world has cut its own throat!

Leaded gasoline is not the best example, given how much health damage it did (even if public health wasn't the reason for the ban). Would you like asbestos and DDT back too?

Not at all. Given the choice, human beings will do the right thing 99% of the time. I could cite examples of metal soda straws or no salt shakers on the restaurant table to illustrate the same point. The definition of freedom and the personal pursuit of happiness does not include a person’s ability to choose being taken from him. That is bondage.

Hey Mr. Post-A-Graph. I'd like to see one of those pie charts about how much health damage the lead in gas did. Here is the thing with the Chicken-Littles-of-the-World: They have no sense of proportion. They will do all that they can to interfere with normal life to save one grasshopper or a snail living in a puddle and worry about lead in gas when the Sun is more dangerous to human health. LOL, If the little green weenie control freaks could, they would regulate the Sun too.

There are always those types that can never change with the times. They see deception in anything new or unfamiliar. They are like Ma and Pa Kettle. Things is good enough as they is.

Fear drives them more than common sense.

Not everything is about the big bad government. Changes are more often than not driven by the market. The government is just a strawman for anything convenient.

Funny, this morning I heard an audio clip of Boston's Mayor Wu lamenting the inadequate lighting of Boston (now that they've replaced all of the older lighting with unidirectional LEDs which are completely useless for lighting large areas uniformly).

Stupid is as stupid does . . . shows what a booksmart Harvard graduate is really worth when he / she closed-mindedly decides not to question their heartfelt beliefs.

What a judgmental moron. Many communities have decided to reduce light pollution and save energy at the same time. Sorry that it triggers your shortsightedness and satiates your lust for anti-intellectualism. Criticisms are the cowards refuge.

Reducing light pollution? Complaints of increased crime and accidents because of poor lighting were the impetus for her comments. I take it you think increased accidents and criminal activity are a fair trade?

Always the same inaccurate response from you regarding anti-intellectualism, @JoeNation.

I rarely criticize "intellectuals" for their booksmarts. I criticize them for not thinking "outside the books".

    Hey, @charley . . . see what I did there? Did'ja like that?

I'm sure that you were criticizing the implementation of the new lights long before you happen to read about it in some Right-wing grievance article. You only make with the Johnny come lately criticisms once you are told what to think. No wonder you are so anti-intellectual. It triggers you everytime you see others thinking for themselves. Poor little snowflake.

(;) very obvious to anyone  who has tried to debate  him) needed to change his original "handle," has continuously displayed his actual cowardice by refusing to defend his ignorant monkey business and the crap displayed as this recent post which fouls this thread and the PL forum.

Funny that you don't believe I think for myself, forget crediting me with any possibility of thinking forward.

Seems to me you accused me of copying the writings of another when I posted about the "Energy-Deficit". I think you did that in Post 39 of that thread. You never did find an alternate author of that piece, did you?

Believe what you want, but I am most definitely not one to thoughtlessly parrot the political views of another.

Not the Boston lights in particular, but LED lighting for most ambient lighting applications. Even for headlights, LEDs are potentially unhealthy / dangerous to those in other vehicles. It's good for spotlighting, and little else.

As for my insights regarding LED lighting, I have a firsthand experience with their limitations to which few others can suitably relate. A former employer, in an effort to answer the clamor for LED-based lighting from Architects in my industry, assigned me the development of an aisle lighting product for theater and performing arts venues. Straightaway, I knew it would be a challenge because LEDs disperse light very poorly, and distracting "hot spots" in such venues had already been a source of complaints to the architectural community.

The lighting had to be uniform enough along the aisle that patrons could easily find their way, and could be neither too dim for safety reasons, nor so bright as to draw attention to the lit aisles during the show. Coupled with the fact that the lights would be housed no more than 18" off the floor, multiple LED packages were opted for, aiming them in slightly divergent directions so that the less bright outskirts of their respective beams overlapped and produced more uniform brightness, further from the brightest centers of the beams. This was the best approach I could affordably devise, and it worked acceptably in that application, but would be unacceptable in applications where subdued theater lighting is not the requirement. That solution used more power than originally estimated by the requesting architects because multiple packages were required to cover the necessary floor area. Like you, those architects were starry-eyed about LED lighting (okay . . . Pun intended).

LEDS unequivocally are not the light source of choice where omnidirectional light is desired. Uniformity of lighting over large areas is the bane of LED lighting, and that will never change. What will change is the public's impression of the efficacy of LED lighting once they learn where it works best, and worst, and why.

As for where I heard about the mayor's comments about the Boston lighting in particular, it was on a local radio station that I heard her defending her choice to push LED lighting, and implying that the city just needs to use more of them to make it safer . . . It'll have to be a lot more of them to make it as safe as it once was . . . another liberal takeaway.
